For the Fame and Fortune
“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery” – Mark Van Doren
I really enjoy being in an artistic setting, and helping others one on one. I’d like to use these traits in a career that enables me to use my skills and knowledge, while seeking employment which offers opportunities for growth. As an Art Teacher, I can incorporate what I enjoy doing most with teaching. This paper will explore the job description, requirements, and salary expectations for a High School Art Teacher. To begin with, the job description for a High School Art Teacher includes many components. According to the Occupation Handbook, the general duties of a High School Teacher include planning lessons in the subject they teach, and adapting

Teachers are required to have a teaching license for the state they will be teaching in and individual class certifications for each class they will be instructing. To be an Art Teacher, you must have a Bachelor’s of Art degree, which can be obtained at one of these three universities in Kansas; Kansas State University, Friends University and University of Kansas. According to the Friend’s University website, approximately 126 credit hours are required to earn an Art Education Degree. The Friend’s University net price calculator estimated my price for attending at $22,800. There are also personal qualifications to consider. Some of the personality traits of teachers are empathy and creativity. I very much enjoy working with others and being part of a community. Being a teacher will allow me to show my ability to lead others and work in a group setting. This career is also aimed towards individuals with a passion for art and a desire to share that passion with others. After finding out that Friends University has an Art Education program, I think attending Friend’s would be a good option for someone like me that lives relatively close. This would enable me to save money on housing by living close by, however transportation to and from home could become costly. Overall, there are many opportunities in the state of Kansas to gain an education to become an Art Teacher. With that said, considering tuition costs, transportation, and housing enables me to make a better decision with my

Work requirements are an important factor in a career selection. The two careers in question could not be more different when it comes to work requirements. The duties for an elementary school teacher consist keeping students safe, teaching them their curriculums,
Art is intended for all to enjoy and learn from. Through an art curriculum; phonics, mathematics, and readiness skills to name a few can be learned through an art curriculum. With this curriculum a teacher can adapt that centers to teach those with diverse abilities such as emotional and intellectual challenges, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and orthopedic impairments.
In education today, art studies are not often viewed as a priority for students and they very frequently get cut from school’s curriculum due to a lack of proper funding. Howeve...
According to the National Art Education Association’s goals for schools, “all elementary schools shall require students to complete a sequential program of art instruction that integrates the study of art production, aesthetics, art criticism, and art history,” (Clark, 1987). Elementary schools are having difficulty because they are cutting back on the fine arts programming and many non-specialist classroom teachers are expected to integrate the fine arts into their daily curriculum. Most of these teachers feel inadequate and uncomfortable when teaching these subjects. The children are receiving inadequate lessons in art education. All elementary schools should expand their curriculum to include the fine arts as subjects, and licensed specialists should teach these subjects.
When you love to do something, you want to do it every day, all the time, till you get sick of it. Even then that excitement and devotion to do it is still there. That is how I feel about art. I have a great passion for it. It is a form where I can express myself in a way words can’t.
To become a teacher, a person must be substantially educated. In most cases, a Bachelor’s degree is required for the teacher to be employed. The Bachelor’s degree is in the field they plan to teach with a specialty in Secondary Education. Although only a bachelor’s degree is required, a Master in their field or a Doctorate in their field is more employable (High School Teachers). As well as a degree, a teacher
Art is everywhere , every tv show, every ad , and every book is art. That is why it is a vital part in today 's education system, but in the rush to bring ip standardized test scores art programs are being dramatically cut and forgotten about altogether. With the new focus being on Common Core State Standards, which does not include art as a core, schools are having to take away art budgets to focus on cores that are being tested on.
It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
Doctors, lawyers, politicians, and engineers. How did they all get to where they are today? No matter the position someone may hold in society everyone has progressed to where they are in life because they had a teacher, someone who taught them in the way they should go. Teacher as defined in the dictionary as one who instructs. To teach someone is to communicate skills and give instruction. Today I would like to tell you why I would like to become a teacher. Specifically speaking I will tell you what has led me to this decision and why I want to become a teacher.
Art Education is not always valued in school settings. Although some may see it as an unnecessary use of school funding, there are many who believe it is beneficial to students in more ways than one. There are many different studies that have been conducted to test the effects that art education has on school-aged children. Some studies have proven that art education can help students to improve in other academic areas. In a journal article from Ohio State University’s “Theory in Practice,” Karen A Hamblen states, “There are linkages between art learning and learning in other subjects areas and that art study can promote creative behaviors, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement.” It has also been found that the arts can teach children better self-regulatory strategies, and even foster more confidence and self-efficacy in school which relates to confidence in academics. Overall, art education in schools has been very beneficial and has proven to ignite creativity, confidence, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement in students.
Becoming a teacher takes more work than one may think. Each state holds extremely different rules in order to obtain a teaching license. When graduating from an education program there is a test that is needed to be taken that is called the praxis. When passing the test a teaching license is then received. Every state is
In fact because of schools focus more on academics and athletics and that art programs are not their main focus. By this it is showing that the art inclined students are not their main focus, but would rather focus on the other students that would show that they are better than other schools in the area. Because of the school focusing on the students that are better at academics and athletics, it makes the art inclined students feel like they are not one wanted or are they should be better at academics and athletics just like everyone else at the school. It also makes them feel like they can't be a part of the school and make it better for everyone. With only one art teacher in my high school, only a few students could get into the art classes. This made it very hard for the students who really wanted to be in the classes and having to choose classes that they did not want and not able to express their creativity.
“I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future of children. For me, it is fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom (who is a retired teacher) for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.”
I am a hard-working, confident and conscientious and have a keen desire to be a primary school teacher. The main reason I want to pursue this vocation is because I love the prospect of working with children, being such an important part of a child’s life is a real honour. I have been fascinated at how quickly they learn things, gaining an insight into their perceptions and how they see the world, the idea of playing an active role in helping them develop, greatly appeals me. Having a long term goal of working with children, I believe I am particularly suited to a degree in Primary/Physical education. I gain huge satisfaction from being able to help them learn and discover new things about the world. Nurturing a child’s development is an occupation that offers huge satisfaction, both intellectual and emotional. My ambition is to be in charge of a classroom, to introduce ideas and skills to the class and observe and feel their response. The teacher’s skills of good communication, patience, clarity and the ability to explain the world are very demanding of one’s intelligence and one’s p...
