After a long period of careful thinking I have decided to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology, as it interests me and I am a people person. Within education, a person learns so much and develops as a person. In regards to me, my understanding, I have to know my strengths and weaknesses. My three key strengths that I have developed over the years and continue to develop are communication, researching and organisation skills. I have developed communication skills by volunteering in wards and nurseries and working as a support worker in numerous places in the past three years, places such as Barnardo’s, Alder Hey Hospital, Royal Hospital and care agencies: Just One and Select Support.

By doing an Applied psychology degree, this course will give me the qualification to becoming a clinical psychologist.
From my work as a support worker, I believe that I am the values described above are desirable to have when working as one (committed, compassionate and hardworking). it motivates me when I get the privilege to work with individuals with physical and mental disabilities as it can be challenging from time to time. Being challenged in a work place, makes things interesting by being stretched and being given new problems to solve. They continued to do it every day, it got to a point where it was very frustrating. I asked them after they came in the next day what was the problem, they explained that when they come to the shop to buy things they forget what they wanted to buy as they get there which makes them go home and do not bother to come back again. I felt bad for the customer, I explained to them that they could write down what they wanted on paper before coming to the shop. They thanked me for my help and continued with their day.

I believe my qualities and experiences in different skills makes me suited for a career in clinical psychology, I have a common interest in mental health and I have gained interpersonal, communication and all different skills when investing my time in working and volunteering in different places to become a clinical psychology. In the past I considered being a child nurse but after a while of thinking, I realised that it is not for me as I do not like some of the roles that a child nurse has.

Once I finish my applied psychology, I intend to find paid experience for two or three years then I intend on applying for a post graduate training course in clinical
