You may not want to lose your parts but what if it could cost animals their lives? When household animals are spayed or neutered it reduces the amount of animals in that species population. The results from these animals remaining fertile are usually underestimated, since taking care of them takes time and money. Though spaying or neutering an animal can increase the risk of urinary incontinence, it benefits the environment, economy and overall health of the animal.
Animals being spayed or neutered has many benefits but there are some downsides to the practice. The most common complication seen from a spayed dog or cat is urinary incompetence. This is described by V. A. Coit as when the animal has an “involuntary leakage of urine” (239).

This has become an increasing problem with these spayed animals as 20% have developed this compared to the 1% of non-spayed animals with urinary incompetence (Coit 239). If the female is spayed after she has gone through her first heat, which is an animal’s version of a period, then there is a higher chance of infection. This has resulted in there being a six week to 16 week optimal age to be spayed or neutered (Root, 221). When the animal is under six weeks they are usually too small and the sedatives are too strong for them. The younger the animal is spayed or neutered helps prevent unexpected litters. Having an abundance of non-neutered or spayed animals increases the population of unwanted, stray animals. These stray animals will usually end up in a shelter due to animal control and other people not being able to care for them. If they do not make it to the shelter, the animals tend to live a short life unless someone takes them in. Wherever these animals end up, someone is using their money on them, which was not planned. A no-kill shelter will have to provide for these animals until either someone wants the animal or until they die. A kill shelter will usually keep the animal for only a certain amount of time and if it has not been adopted by that time, it will be euthanized. Even though euthanizing reduced the amount of money the shelter has to spend on the animal, they are spending money to kill the healthy animal. If these animals are in an impoverished area then they are more likely not to get the help which they desperately need. In these impoverished areas the humans will be using the resources for their own survival. Since they do not have everything they need to live, only the animals which are being used for profit are cared for. Both the animals and the people will be competing for the same available food (Downes, 140). Since these rural countries tend not to have any spaying or neutering practices, whenever the animals are healthy enough they will reproduce. Not only does this increase the food completion between animals but also with the people. And with the increased animal population the higher the chances of contracting an illness becomes. These illnesses can also be passed along to the humans in the areas. If someone gets close to an animal with rabies then the animal would become aggressive and attack that person, in turn spreading the disease to the human population (Gautret, 164). When an animal is spayed or neutered it will improve their overall health.
In dogs, when they are spayed or neutered, the risk of developing cancer later on in life is decreased (Root, 221). Male dogs have a reduced risk of testicular cancer as they age if they have been neutered at a young age. For female dogs this is a reduced risk of cancer in the mammary. Therefore if the animals have been spayed, both sexes have a reduced risk of cancer development. Spaying and neutering does not only help lower the chance of cancer, but also reduces wandering in male cats (Finkler, 125). Wandering will be reduced because the male will not be looking for a mate. Not only do male cats benefit from this, but female cats benefit from this too, and it also helps the male cat not to go in the road and possibly be injured or killed by a car. Also, for spayed outdoor female cats, there will not be an unexpected litter due to unplanned mating. However, any spayed animal will not have an unexpected litter. Spaying and neutering also reduces the hormonal levels in animals(Finkler, 126). The animal will also not have to go through the strain of giving birth to a litter. While breeders make their living off of non-spayed or neutered animals, the females tend not to live as long since they go through the births of many litters. In male dogs the testosterone level lowers which helps the animal not be as aggressive; this can reduce the likelihood of attacking a little
child. Spaying and neutering animals has been a controversial topic among animal owners for years and will continue to be one. While there are many people who only look at the downsides of spaying or neutering, everyone should be informed on the benefits as well. These people tend to see spaying and neutering as unnatural since these animals were able to survive on their own for centuries without the interference of humans. However this may be true spaying and neutering has been known to reduce some of the health risks naturally occurring in animals. Not only does spaying or neutering animal provide the animal with health benefits but also benefits the people who come in contact with them. These people will not have to worry about themesvles, their children or their animals coming into contact with a diseased animal. Ultimately saving their lives and not having to worry about the burden of paying for extra care, not only of their animals but them as well when they cannot already afford medical care.
...ress it causes for the animal not only the captivity, but also in the capture process. There are many health risks for the animal and it rips them away from their family. These animals are so amazing, but as you can see, it is better for them to stay in their environment with family and not be put on display.
To begin with, pit bulls, like all other dogs, have a tendency to bite. According to the ASPCA, if a Pitbull is socialized to both people and other dogs, they are less likely to be aggressive. Just like people, pit bulls need to know how interact with other living things. If a Pitbull is chained outside and never
Female dogs have paired ovaries, oviducts, cervix, and vagina. Moreover, all these structures help in assisting the dog to give birth to a litter of puppies.
Most of the dogs on this list are common household pets, like the Labrador retriever, and are normally non-aggressive and very friendly. Many times these dogs show no sign of aggression and pose no threat to society. Perspective One Breed-specific laws were put in place with the expectation to help prevent dog bites and attacks. The State and Federal government both came to the conclusion that this is a positive way to promote safety from dog attacks. “Both state and federal courts consistently uphold the constitutionality of breed-specific pit bull laws.... ...

...nd you spending your tax dollars for animal killing chemicals? We want to keep our animals and pets healthy as wells as other ones too. We can help to stop this happening by spaying and neutering our pets.
Dogs should be trained to be around people and other pets at an early age. Training a dog to listen and obey is the most important factor (Marketwire). A dog can simply be bored and want to play aggressively. No matter the breed a dog can always be trained not to be violent (“CAUSES OF DOG”). An improperly trained dog can turn out to be mean and aggressive. Also allowing your dog to practice these behaviors will cause them to adapt to them. Exposing a dog to new things will help it become comfortable with them and recognize them. Dogs use their bark as an alarming system (Marketwire). Knowing when and why a dog is aggressive is a key factor for changing this
Anybody’s house can be filled with prized possessions and expensive furniture, but just think how much more memorable your items are with deep grooves from your household cat in them. From climbing the Christmas tree to marking territory on the grand piano, cats can leave a mess behind and not even mean to A surgical procedure called onychectomy, could solve any pet owners solution to this mess. The only problem with this procedure is that it seems kind of brutal to just do this to your favorite little feline. If a procedure like declawing never existed, many cats would be put into a shelter or even thrown out by their trusted pet owners. Therefore, it is important for critics to learn both sides of the issue before making a full judgment over the subject. Onychectomys
Animals are precious, loving, and sweet creatures but many are having their lives cut short. Did you know that 7.6 million animals enter shelters every year? Of those animals, thirty one percent of dogs are euthanized and forty one percent of cats are euthanized. If you do the math, that is 2.4 million dogs and 3.1 million cats. Why are we doing this to our animals? They're living creatures just like us, even if they can't tell us. As you read this paper, you'll learn about what euthanization is, learn the reasons for shelters killing our furry friends, and get an inside look at the terrible practice of euthanization.
There are many different dog breeds and they all have different temperaments, which is partly why many dog lovers are sometimes more particular to one breed than to others. Although not all seemingly unique breed behaviors are breed specific, most importantly aggression.
... of certain health problems and disorders is the basis on which animal-assisted therapy is built. Research has shown that pet ownership is beneficial to both the pet and owner. In the research, pet ownership has a relationship to cardiovascular health, a strengthened immune system, and a decrease in blood pressure and cholesterol levels (PDF 3). Studies have also shown that a constant animal companion lowers anxiety. By drawing attention outside, by having patients focus on the animals, anxiety, depression, pain, and anger can be mitigated.
... danger too. A good reason for captivity is rehabilitation for an animal that is hurt or wounded and could be treated. Then having a second chance back out into the wild. Also by keeping endangered species from going completely instinct by figuring out genetics of an animal. So having zoos and farms do help animals but does put them at risk.
Zoos display fascinating animals from all over the world for human entertainment, research, conservation, and education. Many scientists conduct studies on animals in captivity that they may not have been able to in the wild. Zoos educate all the visitors that come; they let people know everything that they know about the animals on display. We do learn a lot from these animals, but not all of the animals in the zoo are behaving like they normally would in the wild. Larger animals, such as elephants and orcas (commonly known as killer whales), have trouble with being confined in such a small area. However, many smaller animals benefit from zoos because they provide protection from predators, natural disasters, and poachers. They also benefit from conservation efforts; the babies being born get all the care they could ever need. Some animal rights activists are concerned that the conservation efforts are limiting the gene pool of the species. They argue that the small number of animals able to breed in captivity limits biodiversity and leads to weaknesses in the species overall. Zoos are wonderful places to study and learn about animals, but we need to improve the living standards for animals that struggle with captivity.
Animal welfare is a fairly recent, yet troubling argument in society. This subject is a strong argument on a variety of opinions. Animal welfare has become a major issue and has grown internationally. The human concern and the safety and rights of animals is the meaning of the concept of animal welfare. Through decades of animal welfare, people fight to prevent the action of animal cruelty and bring help towards animal rights.
There are the many differences and similarities between the most popular household pets, dogs and cats. These pets really do make a wonderful addition to the family; but, before you decide on which pet to bring home think about the different attention, grooming care, and bathroom usage for each of these pets, to make sure you are able to provide proper care for your pet. Having a pet is a lot of hard work, but in the long run it’s very
