Hamlet was also visited by luck on his ship ride to England when he was able to survive an encounter with a pirate ship. Hamlet describes, “Finding ourselves too slow of sail, we put on a compelled valor, and in the grapple I boarded them. On the instant, they got clear of our ship, so I alone became their prisoner" Hamlet (IV, vi, 17). While Hamlet is one of the few people presumed to survive the pirate ship attack he is now able to travel to his destination. There is no reason why the pirates should have spared him but they did and he was able to continue his journey to kill those involved with his Father’s death. The pirates then decided to keep him in order to have him return the favor. Hamlet does not reveal what the pirates want him
