Almost everyone has cheated on or in something in their life. Whether it’s cheating on a test, copying work from the internet, moving pieces on a game board, or taking or having other’s do your work; it’s all cheating. Cheating is not the way to solve a problem or get a better grade. Cheating doesn’t make people cooler, smarter, or more superior else. No matter what situation a person is in, or why they cheat, it is never really okay or justified.
To start with, cheating is not okay because it’s wrong and dishonest. When a person cheats, they are lying about how smart they are or the abilities you have. Plagiarism is a form of cheating that many people do. Plagiarism is when work is copied from others. For example, many students copy other students work and use it as their own: this is plagiarism. When you cheat its being dishonest and gives you more credit for learning and being smarter than you deserve. This also takes credit away from other students who do study and use their own work.

Another reason, cheating is wrong is the fact no knowledge is being learned and the teachers are wasting time trying to teach you.
Other students are losing time they may need, with the teacher, for help because they are trying to help you. But what’s the point if you are just going to cheat anyway: others need the time you are taking. Also, if you just cheat on test, papers, or etc. then you’re not gaining knowledge and learning the important things you need to know. Cheating might make you seem smart, but in all reality you’re not. What are you going to do when you can’t cheat on finals or in college? One day, when you get a job you won’t be able to cheat to get a higher position or to get more money; you will have to work hard and use the knowledge you
have. The most important reason cheating is unjustified is because it’s unfair to others who try and study or don’t cheat. Take this, for example, if you study all night for an exam and then get a lower grade than someone who cheats is that fair. Cheating makes others look less smart than they exactly are. Another thing to think about, is that it’s unreasonable to cheat. Just because you don’t study or didn’t do you work isn’t a reason to cheat. You should take responsibility for not study or doing homework and take the bad grade. Cheating is never okay, therefore, instead of cheating one should try and get help to learn, study, and just try their best. There are many other alternatives to excel that don’t include cheating. Students should take at least an hour to study, do homework, or whatever needs to be done so that cheating isn’t an option. The overall message here is that cheating is never justified, and there is never any situation that calls for cheating.
Situations of cheating have seemed to become more and more commonplace when the student is bored by the subject material, poor teaching and or feels they have no use for the knowledge. Kohn even states in his article, “cheating is more common when students experience the academic tasks they’ve been given as boring, irrelevant, or overwhelming.” This infers that if a student were attending a school interested in learning about art, the student maybe more inclined to cheat in a business accounting class due to the fact the student would find the subject material irrelevant to them and their future. Students seem to be less inclined to cheat and it “is relatively rare in classrooms where the learning is genuinely engaging and meaningful to students and where a commitment to exploring significant ideas hasn’t been eclipsed by a single-minded emphasis on “rigor”” (Kohn). To simplify everything mentioned above; students are inclined to cheat in school when they are disinterested in the subject material and or are overwhelmed by in assignment or finally the result in a poor teacher. In conclusion, cheating is a dishonest action, and its effects could tremendously impact other people around. Alerting authority figures about dishonesty actions can help motivate students to learn the subjects thoroughly and build meaningful life experiences. Almost every student has cheated at one point or another for some reason they use to justify it and they could be any one of these forms of cheaters. Although all these types of cheaters will attempt to rationalize their cheating with various excuses and reasons there is no real justification. They all know it is the wrong thing to do, but will cheat anyways as they can get away with it and it will create the illusion of greater intelligence for themselves and that is a problem for the youth of America. It will make students learn to cheat better instead of actually learning the material assigned to them, resulting in a less intelligent generation.
From plagiarism to dishonesty, many high school teenagers cheat just to get a good grade in a class or they simply are bad at that particular subject. They cheat on tests, quizzes, and even on big projects. No matter the circumstance, if you are ever to be caught, you should be served with the toughest of consequences. You should not be trusted. You should have any second chances. After all, even if you don’t get caught for cheating, you are not learning anything the class has to offer.

First, the temptation of being able to take just a few lines from the Internet can be convincing. Third, work load and pressure, Students will turn to cheating to lighten the homework load which often takes many hours to complete. In this ted talk, Dan Ariely mentioned two common reasons for his argument. According to Dan Ariely, people tend to cheat if they justify their reason to do so, or when they are surrounded by people who also cheat. And also to gain benefit in a test students can tend to cheat.
Once the line is crossed, and temptations become actions, there are other factors that come into play. In our current society, strong ethics are not highly valued. There is a prevalent attitude that claims: everybody is doing it, it doesn’t hurt anybody, and this material isn’t really important to me. These people don’t possess a profound and thorough understanding of how cheating will harm them. We are consumed with the concept of instant gratification. Our society is near-sighted. Technology makes cheating so easy and convenient, but we often can’t perceive what the long term effects will be if that line between working for your grade and taking the easy way out is crossed.
Modern students face many pressures for academic success. They are often unwilling to disappoint their parents or spouses. Some fear that not cheating will weaken a student’s ability to compete with their peers. They rationalize their unethical behavior, unwilling to accept a poor grade, consequently justifying cheating as the only means to that end.

Whatever the methods, there are many statements like those above to justify cheating. For example, in the United States, surveys show that more than half of all students cheat, or have cheated, during their school years.
From a young age we are taught the differences between right and wrong, but as we get older the line between moral and immoral is often blurred. Things that were once thought of as unacceptable are now perfectly fine in our minds. Have you ever seen anyone cheat on an assignment or exam? Do you know anyone that’s been expelled from school for cheating? What if it was discovered that a U.S. senator plagiarized his college thesis paper? Imagine if it got out that one of the most respected universities in the U.S. was involved in a huge fraud scandal that involved thousands of students. Academic cheating is a terrible offense because it is unethical, self-degrading, and can be detrimental to the learning environment.
We might want to first follow that question with another question. What is cheating and why do so many people do it? Most people would agree that cheating is deceitful and one who obtains answers by cheating is not practicing good integrity. We could further add that cheating also prevents the student from having to put in long hours of studying and preparation. Recent technology has made this “time saving method” even more efficient.
In a child’s early youth, their minds are like brand new sponges, ready and willing to soak up information to learn all about the new life. Younger or older, the pressure of life begins to sink in on them. This pressure desperately searches for an outlet, and cheating is one of the outlets. The concept of cheating is never dwelt on in school, the teacher will just mention to the class not to look onto your neighbor’s paper, but doesn’t spend time to reinforce the severity of cheating in school. Picture a middle schooler, who must go to school, attend club meetings, participate in basketball practice, study for the upcoming test, finish their homework and get to bed by 9pm to do it all over again.
Also they are the ones to blame for their own actions because they don’t want to work hard, and they believe if they don’t cheat they will not pass or be successful. Ultimately it all is affiliated with motivation. Motivation is the key to all success in life, if someone is motivated to do something, they will try pretty dang hard to accomplish that goal throughout their life or schooling career. But in high school, people tend to lose motivation as the semester goes on. They get lazy, start making excuses, and either resort to cheating, or they don’t do their assignments at all.
The question of whether cheating is right or wrong may seem like a silly one, but just about everyone will agree that cheating is indeed wrong. With today’s technology giving us information and breaking news with the swipe of a finger, it seems as though cheating has even become more common; but is it ever acceptable? I would say no. Most of us feel the temptation to cheat at some point in life, but I view cheating as the easy way out for those who don’t have the drive to grow and learn honestly. Whether cheating is done in the workplace, sports, or academically; those who cheat are giving themselves an unfair advantage over those who accomplish the same goals honestly. Athletes who cheat run the risk of ruining not only their reputation
