Women may also decide to have an abortion due to rape and teen pregnancy, not just health related issues. One in every five pregnancies happens to be a teenage girl (Do Something). Rape is a huge reason why women may decide to get an abortion to end the pregnancy. To carry around a child that a woman was not ready for is not fair to her. As stated in the article, “Victims of Sexual Violence: Statistics,” every ninety-eight seconds, an American is sexually assaulted in the United States. There is an estimated average that more than three hundred thousand victims of rape and sexual assault every year. Statistics have proven that when one is sexually assaulted, they take on bad behavior. Many begin to use drugs to forget about the horrid thing …show more content…
The people are pro-choice and defend the women who decide to have an abortion. Many don’t know this but, some people, known as pro-life, will deliberately go out of their way to attack women who have had an abortion. They harass, threaten, stalk, and sometimes even go as far as killing women who took an unborn child’s life. “Pro-life position is that a new human life is created at the moment of fertilization and is, thus, entitled to the same legal protections as any other human being” (WND). With that being said, pro-life supports the idea that every child has a right to live and to be born. They don’t believe any excuse is acceptable to terminate a child’s life, even if the mother is mentally unfit or not financially stable. Their argument is more focused on the unborn child rather than putting themselves in the mother’s shoes (Human Rights). Pro-life supporters do not see the reasons, situations, or benefits to abortion for the mother. There are many reasons to why people do not want to support abortion. Supporters of pro-life think women who get pregnant and want an abortion are irresponsible. To bring an unwanted child in the world is what’s irresponsible. The main reason being, killing an unborn child making the mother a murder in their eyes. What pro-life people don’t understand is that some children could potentially die from the …show more content…
She isn’t on birth control and didn’t know the consequences of having unprotected intercourse. If she were to keep the child, she risks being the topic of discussion at school which can lead to behavioral changes and lack in the performance of education. She is also not going to be financially stable to support her child on her own and would possibly have to give up school to get a full-time job. If the teen were to get an abortion, she would not have to deal with the stress and all the responsibility at such a young age. In many teen pregnancies, the mother often is left alone to take care of the child as well. An anonymous teen writes, “Having a kid at my age would not be just unfair to me, it would be unfair to the child, who would grow up without stability. The child would have to deal with the stress of the mother struggle to keep a roof over our heads” (Not Ready to be a Mom). That quote points out that not only does the mother have to look out for herself, but what her child’s life would look like as well. Dealing with the emotions of having an abortion is a major downfall, but the teen would most likely learn from this experience and grow with it to be more
She is so young; she deserves to have the choice over her own body for many reasons. For example, this girl may get kicked out of her house, or won’t even be able to support the baby financially. She might even lose her education just trying to take care of the child. I support the idea that she learns and understands from her mistake and ultimately it was her decision to do what she wished with her body. Rather than put her in a state of repression, the results from her experience would be social maturity and evolution. With abortion, none of these issues would be a concern accept then she would have to deal with the emotional part of determining to terminate the fetus. Personhood begins after a fetus becomes able to survive outside the womb or after birth. This baby should not be coming into this world unwanted. What I mean by this is that having a child is an important decision to make that requires consideration, preparation and planning. A girl at a young age is not even ready to support herself financially. Woman who had the most abortions after the first trimester in 2008 were more likely to be black, and to be young, less educated and/or living in poverty. Banning abortion would hurt the most vulnerable in our
Pro-choice activists only focus on the positives of being able to choose whether a woman can keep her baby. They don’t look at the risks that come with abortion like “shame, guilt, and regret” (Chittom & Newton, 2015). Abortion doesn’t only effect a woman mentally, but also physically. There is a possibility of death or complications when having an abortion. Anything can go wrong even if it is rare for it to happen. I don’t believe a woman should put her physical health at risk in order to kill her own baby. It sound harsh saying the word “kill”, but that is the reality. Pro-choice supporters try to shy away from using phrases like “killing” and “baby” because of how harsh it sounds. They would rather use words like “fetus”, “embryo” and “annihilate”. Using those word make the reality of killing an innocent baby seem less harsh. They bring up reasons to support their stance like stating that “a woman must have the power to control a decision as significant as parenthood, and that individuals should be able to influence decisions to the same extent that those decisions affect their lives” (Anderson, 2015). Their reasoning isn 't good enough. A woman can have the power to make her own decisions at another time. She can decide many things for herself, but abortion shouldn 't be one of
Pro-choice is an escape from the harsh reality that abortion is the murder of millions of innocent lives. Activists also believe that killing infants because they are severely handicapped is morally acceptable. They are of the opinion that a life can be terminated by the hands of a physician; in my opinion, only by God. That is how pro-choice activists represent themselves.
Abortion is a very controversial and sensitive topic in today’s society. Two different sides to this argument is pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life proponents believe in the right to life for unborn fetuses saying that abortion should be considered murder regardless of how far along in the pregnancy the woman is. Pro-choice advocates people who believe the woman carrying the fetus should be able to make her own decision on aborting the fetus.
So in other words they believe it is that woman’s body and no one has the right to say what they can and cannot do with it, or it would be unjust. The supporters are pro-choice because they do not believe there is any reason why a woman should have to face all the consequences from something she did not do alone, it takes two people to conceive a baby. If a guy can get a woman pregnant and then disappear from their life, there is no reason why she should be the one responsible for everything, the woman should get the same advantage as the man. Also, in the case of rape and incest the supporters believe that it is best for a child to not be born at all than to be born hated or unwanted because they are a constant reminder of the terrible incident that has happened, by a mother who is coerced to have the child because she has no choice, and not because she wants the
There are many views on what is considered right when talking about abortion, whether you are conservative and believe that abortion is wrong, or liberal and believe that no matter what women should be allowed that option, abortion should always be an option. Many factors can be considered when deciding to get an abortion, if the female was raped, the pregnancy can harm the mother, or even if she's just not ready, abortion is never something to oppress. Saying that abortions should be banned is saying that we should rewind time to 1920 when women had to fight to have rights for themselves. Abortion is not a taboo, it is a solution for many women around the world, and choosing to support Pro-Choice means you support women as a
Pro-life rhetoric concludes, that the unborn child is not human, or alive. According to Francis Beckwith, in “Politically Correct Death” “ One begs the question whenever one assumes what one is trying to prove. To cite an example, abortion advocates who argue that abortion is justified because a woman should have the right to "control her own body" are assuming that there is only one body involved in the abortion act that of the woman.” This is the point they are trying to prove. Or, the popular assertion, "No one knows when life begins, so abortion should remain legal." But to argue that no one knows when life begins, and that abortion must remain legal through all nine months of pregnancy, assumes that life does not begin before birth the exact point the abortion advocate is trying to make. Then, there is the well known "back alley" argument that asserts American women will die by the millions if abortion is restricted in any way. But unless you begin with the assumption that the unborn child is not human, this argument is more or less to saying, "Because some people are killed attempting to murder others, the state should make it safe and legal for them to do so."
Rape is a despicable crime against women. Opinions are heated, and it seems that everybody has something to say about pregnancy in the case of rape. The woman who suffered from the sexual assault are more likely to experience distress after or during an abortion. When a woman gets raped, it isn’t wanted. If one was in that situation they wouldn’t want to constantly think about the fetus and how and when it occurred. One should not be obligated to go through the particular child birth. Who would want to give birth to a baby that would suffer his or her life not knowing who the father
The first side of the argument, which opposes abortion, is called pro-life. Essentially, they value a fetuses life more than a woman’s right to choose what to do with her body. To these activists, choosing abortion is the equivalent to murder, and that they are “playing god” by aborting their children. They also feel that on the other hand that abortion is a dangerous procedure, and puts the mother at risk (hli.org 3). Anti-abortion leaders argue that there are alternatives to abortion, such as adoption. Adoption may provide a warm and happy home, (although often times they are placed in uncaring home...
...If a pregnancy is unwanted, and the woman has to continue and have the child anyways, it could cause serious physical and mental problems to her personal well-being, but getting an abortion does not get rid of any physical or mental problems destined to come, and if she did not want to get pregnant that bad, then she should have been chaste.
I would argue that giving birth isn 't always the most responsible option. If a woman knows that she won 't be able to effectively take care of the child I’d say it’s more responsible of her to have an abortion and prevent them both from having a future full of hardships. People also say that if a woman had practiced safe sex and used contraception than she could have avoided it all together. According to Newsweek, a report released by the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that, “fewer than half of high schools and only a fifth of middle schools teach lessons on all 16 of the nationally recommended topics for sexual health education.” They also found that, “schools were least likely to teach kids how to obtain or use condoms.” This shows that not everyone is informed on how to obtain or correctly use contraceptives, so avoiding a pregnancy might not always be an
Women get abortions for personal reasons. Weather its because she just doesn’t want it or she got pregnant out of rap and doesn’t want to bear the looking at a child that brings back pain of the night she had to endure the worst night of her life. Step in to her shoes. In the article written by Fernandez explains abortion should be legal because its more than a abhorrent judgment.
When it comes down to abortion, there are two types of people, Pro-Life advocates and Pro-Choice advocates. Pro-Life advocates fight against abortion, these people believe that abortion is an abomination and should not be legal because it is wrong and it is the act of killing an innocent child. Pro-Choice advocates believe that women should have to choice as to whether or not they carry the fetus to term or end the pregnancy through abortion before it is taken to term. Pro-Choice advocates aren’t exactly supporting abortion as much as they are supporting the right to end a pregnancy through abortion.
When deciding if abortion is morally permissible the strongest argument is that fetuses are innocent beings and killing an innocent being is morally impermissible. Any being descending from a human makes it a human, and therefore a fetus is human. As a society we see murder to be immoral especially of an innocent person. Pro-life supporters argue that abortion is equivalent murder because life starts at conception, making a fetus a living person. Supporters believe a fetus has a right to live and wants to live. Abortion goes against the fetus’ right to live and it’s potential to become a member of society. It is the mother’s duty as a parent to provide for the child the best way possible, and that does not involve abortion.
One of the reasons that the pro-choice and pro-life groups justify their positions are based upon the fact that before the supreme court decision legalized abortions, women would undertake their own measures to abort the baby which included such things as the use of coat hanger, knitting needles, radiator flush or going to unsafe back-allies. These crude measures caused many Americans to feel the legalization of abortions was justified. Pro-Choice and Pro-Life Groups, debated whether or not abortion should be a legal or illegal. For example, pro-life,believe that the quality or condition of being an individual person begins at conception, and therefore abortion is an unethical killing of a blameless human being. However, Pro-choice known as the supporters of abortions believe that a person has the right to control their body, therefore it's a person's choice to do as they please.
