The village was very close. The first houses could already be seen on the left and the right of the road. It was a small village, with one main road and a village square. A large, leafy lime tree, whose tiny flowers gave off a fragrant smell in summer, occupied the center of the square.
The village had a school and a church, a small pub and a post office, a bakery and a butcher, and Mrs. Lilliweather’s shop where you could get anything you needed and much more.
Twinkle always went to Mrs. Lilliweather first. She was a kind old woman and very fond of animals. Since the unfortunate incident at the bakery, when Mrs. Clomp, the unfriendly baker’s wife, had insulted Charlie, Twinkle always left her animals with Mrs. Lilliweather. They were in safe hands with her. Not only because she liked animals, but because of Mrs. Lilliweather’s big secret.
Nobody but Twinkle knew her secret. Mrs. Lilliweather was a retired fairy. Being a fairy, even a retired one, made it easy for her to protect Twinkle’s animals. Before she met Mrs. Lilliweather, Twinkle didn’t even know that retired fairies existed. Mrs. Lilliweather had been a weather fairy for many years before she decided to retire. But she was still able to make it hail or storm, snow or rain, or let the sun shine for a few hours. Most of the time however, she pretended to be a simple shopkeeper.
Many years ago, when Twinkle had just arrived in Bavaria and was sad and lonely, Mrs. Lilliweather had made the sun shine strong and hot in the middle of winter, just to cheer Twinkle up. On another day she let rain pour down on the mean baker’s wife. That’s when Twinkle knew she was a true friend

...er. I heard him talk to someone the other day. He said he was looking for your house. He wanted to teach you and your animals a lesson.“
Twinkle felt a chill creep into her heart, very slowly, like a slug, and nestle between her ribs. “He cannot find the house,” she said. “The clearing is well hidden. I’m not good at most of the spells I use, but I’m good at protective spells. I find it awful to think that someone wants to do something bad to my animals or me.”
“Whenever I see him, I let it hail and storm, so that he has to run right back to his shabby old house.”
Usually when Twinkle came home from her shopping tour with Charlie and Alfie, she was happy and cheerful. She was looking forward to eat all the nice things she had bought and to share them with her friends. Not this time though. She was worried and couldn’t stop thinking about Storm and Grobber.

for the reader of the town and residents of this town on a normal summer morning.
It was a sunny day with a sweet aroma of blooming tulips. The sunlight glittered on their faces as the breeze rattled the chestnut tree above. There was an occasional giggle as they talked, but there was also a hint of discomfort and awkwardness between them as they peeked at each other’s face and recoiled when the other looked up. When the bell rang twice, I saw them say goodbye and walk away from each other. In the darkness of the crowd, a glimmer flashed into my eyes from Hannah’s cheeks.
The village had shutdown, the once giddy streets became grim. Flowers that once flourished in the meadows around the village wilted and rot. Death took over homes. Blissful faces became helpless.
Anne Sexton’s poem “Cinderella” is filled with literary elements that emphasize her overall purpose and meaning behind this satirical poem. Through the combination of enjambment stanzas, hyperboles, satire, and the overall mocking tone of the poem, Sexton brings to light the impractical nature of the story “Cinderella”. Not only does the author mock every aspect of this fairy tale, Sexton addresses the reader and adds dark, cynical elements throughout. Sexton’s manipulation of the well-known fairy tale “Cinderella” reminds readers that happily ever after’s are meant for storybooks and not real life.
When I found myself on my Feet, I looked about me, and must confess I never beheld a more entertaining Prospect. The Country round appeared like a continued Garden, and the inclosed Fields, which were generally Forty Foot square, resembled so many Beds of flowers. These Fields were intermingled with Woods of half a Stang, and the tallest Trees, as I could judge, appeared to be seven Foot high. I viewed the Town on my left Hand, which looked like the painted Scene of a City in a Theatre.

...er learned from Lily how to cook, wash clothes, and how to clean the house. These girls learned from each other without realizing it, and had created even more of a special bond with one another than they thought. After both of the girls had gotten married and had children, the two girls did not see each other as much. Because of nu shu they were able to keep and touch and learn what was going on in their lives. “You who always knew my heart now fly above the clouds in the warmth of the sun. I hope one day we will soar together” (321). Lily wrote these words on her final entry on her fan after Snow Flower’s death. Through all of the lies Snow Flower told Lily, she still loved her and the bond they had together for eternity. Together as laotongs, the girls overcame obstacles, learned from each other, and created an eternal both between women throughout this novel.
An ironic ending is also foretold by the town’s setting being described as one of normalcy. The town square is described as being “between the post office and the bank;” every normal town has these buildings, which are essential for day-to-day functioning. The townspeople also establish a normal, comfortable setting for the story. The children are doing what all typical kids do, playing boisterously and gathering rocks. The woman of the town are doing what all stereotypical females do, “exchang[ing] bits of gossip.” The men are being average males by chatting about boring day-to-day tasks like “planting and rain, tractors and taxes.”
As I was brainstorming ideas for my children’s book, I tried to think of ways that I could relate my book back to Pudd’nhead Wilson. I remembered that when I was reading the part where Roxy switched the babies she mentions that “de angels” (Twain, 12) were going to look down upon and protect Chambers who was about to become Tom. When I saw, the word angels I immediately thought of Fairy Godmothers and I decided that the Roxy saw kind of herself as a fairy godmother for her son because she was doing what she thought was the best for her son at the time. I decided to make my children’s book about princesses switched by Pearle, the Fairy Godmother. I focused on the moral of honesty is the best policy because if Tom and Roxy, along with Tatiana
One of the first problems with the town is that it was built with out a foundation. The whole town was built at once. There have never been any causes to fight for, or differences to solve. With out these essentials, the town has no character. Going through such hard ships only make an individual stronger. The same thing can be said for a community. Never having to face loss of security can make people arrogant and unaware of what they should appreciate. The only symbol that represents the town is a picture of a girl on a bike with a dog behind her. This symbol along with the name of the town is generic. One of the most important aspects of a town is the character that defines it. Part of what gives something character is history. A town with no history has no definition.
