The entertainment is what people love to watch like boxing and other sports. these types of sports have very high risk of injury that can affect the players because they entertain people who watch them. in the essay “Who Killed Benny Paret?” by Norman cousins is an example of violence in sports. In this story a boxer Benny Paret, died from taking many hits to the head, which cause so much damage to the brain which cause his body to shut down which caused his death. Violence in sports is caused by fans, media, managers, and by the players themselves because of un-sportsmanship. First, why there is violence in sports is because of the fans and how fans like to see such things to be entertained. In boxing people pay to see blood, or somebody …show more content…
The media always have something to say about what during, or after the game and what they say can affect the players. In the article “Registered Forms of Violence In Sport” by Nenad Živanović; Nebojša Ranđelović stated, “It is no coincidence that certain researchers mention ‘daily violence’. Violence is expanding due to the mass-media, by means of which it is entering our homes. Registered sport is an integral component of our everyday lives, and it is almost a logical conclusion that it is not immune to violence which usually has a very negative outcome”(para.1). This states that violence can cause in everyday life because of a sport we love and could affect in our lives and that someone around you could get hurt. Secondly why violence in sports is caused by the media is that the media can rile up people and cause people to be more aggressive. For example, in this article “Factors of spectator violence” by Josh Bender stated “Some factors that could be all linked together on social media are alcohol consumption, frustration, important games, and the mob mentality. If you take these four factors that influence violent behaviors of spectators and creatively make spectators aware of what to do in situations when confronted with these issues would be a positive step in limiting violence”( para.6 ). This states that people who use the media with sports can result to be violent online because people will …show more content…
Managers in boxing make sure their player is ready for a fight and don’t lose. For example, managers in boxing will let their boxer go for the head which can damage their opponent's brain, but the players don’t care because all they do is they listen to whatever there managers are telling them to do where its beating their opponent down so hard where that person could end up dead. This shows that managers don't have sympathy in them, but all they care is winning, which is why managers are reason there is violence in sports like boxing. Another example that managers are the cause of violence in sports is because they don’t care how their coaches act. For example, in 2011 it was the San Fransico 49ers vs the Detroit Lions football when Jim Harbuagh, the Niners coach which he helped his players to beat the lions and the coach of the Niners was so excited and when he went to go shake the lions coach Jim Shwartz he gave him quick handshake and a pat on the back. Instead the Niners coach supposedly hit lions coach on the back instead of patting, so coach Shwartz started running to coach Harbaugh and started yelling at him and saying other stuff and all the football players got in it and started pushing and throwing punches and which was a bad scenario. This shows that the head coach of the lions caused this riot at the football game and that his players got mad too, and started attacking the other football players,
In the past recent years, we have heard in the news around cases involving assault and battery cases involving professional athletes or other celebrity figures, however, it is “not uncommon in the sport and recreation environment for a person to be harmed as a result of another’s intentional conduct, both on and off the “field of play” Cotten & Wolohan, p. 214). Nonetheless, it is important to understand that the term “liability” is often not limited to athletes-as-combatants. For example, in Law for recreation & sport managers uses an example from page 215 that discusses a youth football game regarding how a referee was attacked by three coaches and also was tackled by a 14-year-old player, resulting in charges of felony battery. Thus, Hamakawa remarks to say, ”recreation and sport managers should be aware that their organizations are not immune from incidents involving participants, parents and other spectators, coaches, and officials, security
As long as there have been sports, there has been violence in them. Ice hockey, particularly due to its increasing popularity as a professional sport, has brought up several ethical issues regarding the act of fighting in hockey. There are strong arguments for both sides of this present problem in the world of hockey. Numerous male athletes, including children as young as nine years of age, have suffered injuries as an outcome of fighting and it should be considered if it should be part of a sport that very young people grow up with (Brust, Leonard, Pheley & Roberts, 1992).On the other hand, fights create excitement and the sport of hockey might grow in terms of popularity, making the problem of fighting in hockey complex and difficult to resolve (“Towards An Explanation Of Hockey Violence: A Reference Other Approach”). Even though hockey is known to be a very aggressive and fast-paced sport, the unsportsman-like action of fighting in hockey cannot longer be tolerated.
In the film Rollerball, the ideas of violence will be related to Coakley’s views and theories. Historically violence was an accepted idea and large part of sport. From the blood-sports of ancient Greece to the cock and dog fighting in Folk games, these sports were built around brutal violence and lack of rules until the modernization of sports where violence decreased dramatically and organized rules took over the game. In Rollerball both historical violence as well modern can be evaluated Rollerball although a futuristic sport and society, was based on a combination of rules and some violence.
Violence has become a normalized concept in society. Children play video games based on beating and shooting others, people watch violent news stories without a second thought, and people watch people hit, punch, and fight each other for pure entertainment. In Norman Mailer’s “The Death of Benny Paret” Mailer assigns animalistic qualities to the boxers, comparisons of the boxers to inanimate objects, and pacing to convey that boxing is inhuman and uncivilized. In Mailer’s piece, he assigns animalistic qualities to the two boxers in the ring. He described Paret after he was hit by saying “Paret walked three disgusted steps away, showing his hindquarters” (Mailer,1).
It is clear that this moment in his childhood stuck with him throughout his life and eventually manifested into something that would change the way he would look at things. As technology progressed we were able to watch “slow-motion replays showing us the precise angle of a grotesquely twisted ankle and a quarterback’s contorted face at the exact moment he is concussed” [Almond]. Watching this violence would stir any soul would it not? The beauty of morals is that it is seldom black and white but rather many shades of grey. This violence to me could be perfectly acceptable whilst to Almond it is absolutely unacceptable. People could be okay with the violence in football but not the violence in boxing. The grey area in these situations lies in the individual 's knowledge and compensation of said risk. Yes professional athletes are prone to serious injury but they are paid a handsome amount of money to compensate for such danger. Not only is there money involved but there is quite a bit of fame as well. Playing professional football can open many doors for a young aspiring athlete. In life there are many unknown risks and factors that come into play. If you are given a choice to do what you love knowing there are risks and be largely compensated for it that is hands down a win in my book. It doesn 't
The liberty of an individual in sport is the number one value that should be respected to make boxing morally adequate. Autonomy should be respected in sport because ones body should always have freedom from external control and influences. All arguments for paternalism can be explained in a justified way to prove that boxing is unethical and unsafe, but this does not mean that paternalism is the best way to bring about safety in boxing. If boxing were to be banned, violence would become more prevalent outside of sport, and proper boxing technique and skill would slowly disappear. Keeping boxing as a sport will create a safer environment for this type of activity to occur, and also create a fair ground for each sport that involves violence to stay available to athletes. Because boxing does involve violence, this does not imply that it is immoral to participate and that the freedom to participate should be taken away from athletes. Boxing provides a safe environment, a place to create a career, and is an institution for sporting entertainment. By allowing boxing as a sport to continue, this will create a safe and fair atmosphere with the freedom to allow all individuals to participate with proper
Banning boxing is becoming an expanding topic. In England, boxing is on the verge on being banned on ethnical grounds. Ethnically, many people do not believe that it is legal to possible kill someone, intentionally. In many sport, there are chances of brain trauma, but the sole purpose of this sport is to injure someone else. Deciding at which point that brain trauma outweighs social benefit is the current argument when it comes to banning boxing. Because there is no proven, direct association between boxing and brain injuries, the argument is at a standstill in
Media plays a large role in affecting peoples thinking, opinions, ideas, etc. In essence media can shape our thinking into negative views and perspectives that are typically not true. Sometimes the media plays as a puppet master to society. Specifically, the inequity of the gender roles within sports causes for a stir in commotion that calls for some attention. In doing so the inadequate misuse of media towards women in sports causes low exposure, amongst many other things. On the other hand their male counterparts are on the other end of the success spectrum. Because of this noticeable difference, it is vital that action is taken place to level out equality within sports. Due to the power of media, it is believed that a change in media coverage
In addition, specific precautions can be taken that will help to prevent such horrendous situations from arising at sporting events. Violence as a result of sports did not begin in the last century, but it goes back in history to the sport of chariot racing in Roman times.... ... middle of paper ... ... 19 December 2011 http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=96558&page=1>. “Thomas Junta ‘Hockey Dad’ Gets 6 to 10 Years for Beating”.

Boxing consists of two fighters in a cage, these two fighters can be both evenly matched to beat the ever living shit out of each each other, or there can be a mismatch, where supposedly one fighter has the upperhand. Mike Tyson said “everyone has a plan till they get punched in the mouth.”. No matter how much

Hockey, by nature, is known as a tough and dangerous sport. It is a game that places grown men on thin pieces of steel chasing a rubber puck across frozen water. As such, the game of hockey is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world. Hockey is also the only team sport that allows opposing teammates to square off in a physical fighting match within the game. In recent years, however, the allowance of fighting has become a controversial issue. Those who oppose fighting point out that there has been injury and even deaths to hockey players as a result of fights. People who oppose the allowance of fighting within the game also point out that fighting may send messages to young fans
Violence is defined as the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has obvious potential to cause harm or destruction to an individual. Violence in sports comes in many forms, and divides into social and cultural factors related to the sport ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social class and race, and the tactics used in sports. Violence in sports has gone too far because sports violence has become so severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports some violence has become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own violence around with other fans that support opposing teams to win. The violence in sports can cause severe casualties from collisions to concussions that may result in long-term mental or physical damage.
Professional wrestling is the form of entertain and sports mixed together to get sport-entertainment. Just like any other form of entertainment there needs to be a cast and story. The wrestlers are the cast and take they take the violent bumps and bruises. The stories they tell is the entertainment side of professional wrestling. In the world of professional wrestling anything is legal. The more the violent the more the crowd erupts. Slam a man on the mat not much a reaction. Put that man threw a table louder reaction. Thru that man off the top of 20 foot cage the crowd goes wild. The more violent the fans love it even more.
