The crowd is sorporting Cam or Marty. The Start by bringing up the subject of how huggins sorports hard work but Cam beileves in Rainbow Land. Cam starts by saying he is also an american reacting in a defensive way questioning Rainbow land. Marty describes Rainbow land a 13 page book that Cam Brady had written. Cam to counter his acusation say he had written the book in second grade. Marty uses the book as a way to acuse Cam of being a comuniest. (The Campaign, 2012) Analysis S.I.T states that you will make the in group present with positive aspects and out group with negative aspects.
Ingroup as Marty Huggins and his folowers and Cam Brady as the outgroup this sceen shows us jsut how S.I.T works. Marty (ingroup) was making Cam (outgroup) look bad for self gain. An ensample would be when Cam says “I am an american as well” making himself look good as if to say he is dominate as being an american and marty is lesser then him. When Marty said something ngative like saying Cam was a comuniest the crowed cheered or boooed based and the group they wanted to win. When Cam Responds he denies it by expaining it as if it was really a childs book by saying it was about a bear givein g gold to a lepercon. This shows how Marty is making negative statement about Cam and how Cam reacts by defening himself in order to make his group (Cam Folowers) still look good and show he is inocent. By Cam’s advisor staing “thats right” and claping he is showing sorport to hsi ingroup(Cam brady). Cam and Marty makeing the crowed go to a point where there violence between the groups. The Fighting is a non verbal comunication of anger toward the other group. basicly trying to show witch one is better by fighting it out. It also my be sceen as a faces aving attempt torewars teh group so t looks like there canidate won the debate. When Cam and Marty brawl Cam’s Advisor says “no no no no no!!” tryign not to provoke more negativeity to the group. By hitting the puppy it
reprsents the end of the potitiveity Marty gained by making his opponit look terrible compared to himself. By Marty aproching Cam the way he did threwout the sceen he made his group look good but he made Cam look bad. In order to make his group look good Cam tried to push away the acusation or claim it to be out of date. S.i.T Fits well because everything it claimed was correct toward the movie sceen shown. Cam tried to make himself look a good and Marty tried t make himself look better while downsizeing Cam. Utility of the Theory The Campaign has many Exsamples of S.I.T and expains how we want our group to look better then the other. S.I.T can take place many places in movies an out of movies such as reilgion, race, hair color, any group you belong to will msot likley make themselfs look better then the other/enemy group. This theroeyis very useful becasue it shows us the confilits and how groups react to one another. The different groups of friends were completely different from each other. There was the group that wanted to be popular and get all the girls with a party, and there was a group that had all the music records that the other needed. That was the group that was trying to make money as well. Both parties also wanted girls. The fact that these two groups had seemingly presented themselves as gangs shows how much they wanted to be apart from each other. The gangs symbolized the separatism of the youth. The catch to their separateness is that they really needed one another to get what they wanted. The one group needed music and the other group needed money. They ended up making a deal with each other, which was conspired by Bacc. The fact that they were able to come together like that symbolized that they really should be together.
This story talks about how Edward Perry and Alfonso led the gang, and why kids wanted to be a part of it. It also focuses on Bobby Gore and David
The film starts with an uprising after a white storeowner kills a black teenager. This incident Highlights Prejudices. The teenager was labeled a thief because of the color of his skin and the unjustifiable murder causes racial tensions that exist as a result of the integration of the high schools.
In my sociology analysis essay I will be discussing Menace II Society. There are five concepts that I will define and use to show a broader vision of scenes from the movie which are: master status, differential association, self-conflict, stereotyping, and street crimes. Also, there will be two theories I will be discussing about the movie which are symbolic interaction theory and social conflict theory.
...his antagonist proves to be their own inner character which determines the trajectory of their decisions. As they all become aware, the consequences of their decisions prove to have an extensive impact on themselves and those around them.
...e better and the Socs to be worse. Being tough and tuff were the two things required in each group, but not every individual were able to be the two things. This caused some individuals not to be themselves for the gang. Internal and external expectations changed the group to be better or worse. The Greasers were expected by others to do bad things, but they were able to prove they could be heroes. The Greasers are disgrace to the society which helped them to strive to become real heroes. While the Socs were to pressure by the high expectations they decided to rebel. The Socs took advantage which led those group to be a disgrace, although no one ever thought the Socs were capable to do bad things. Society should stop being judgmental to avoid changes that make other worst. The only expectations people should make is to help other people to be the best they can be.
The first topic that is found in the movie that was taught in class is conflict. Conflict is expressed disagreement over perceived incompatible goals. Although it may seem it, conflict is not always a negative thing. Conflict is needed and can help growth of relationships. Many conflicts are started because people have different conversational styles. In class, we learned that there are guidelines that one should follow in order to help prevent conflict or help solve it. The guidelines include clarifying goals, helping others save face, using constructive criticism skills, using empathic listening skills, monitoring nonverbal be...
Although the novel depicts an extreme scenario of a society with rigid norms, there is some degree of a Combine in every society. The Combine is a great force that?s hard to overcome but can be broken down with determination from a strong group of opinionated individuals. It takes a leader to influence the passive to fight to obtain their rights. When enough people feel stifled by unfair treatment they need to band together as pack of wolves to try to change the system.
This movie is about David and Jennifer, who live in Southern America in the ‘90s which was said to be a liberal state, are sent from reality to a TV show ‘Pleasantville’ in 1950s. From reality looking through this TV show, Pleasantville looks like an ideal place for people to live in, but getting a closer look and being part of this world you actually realize that it is very different from what is shown on TV. After David and Jennifer arriving to Pleasantville, they become colorless, everything there is either black, white or gray. People then expose their conservative lifestyles with suppression of sexuality, discrimination and restrictive of personal liberty and imagination. In Pleasantville, people assume that there is no outside world other
This demonstrates to us that no matter how much your legal or moral laws are violated, what matters is how you as an individual react to the situation, justly or unjustly. This movie is centered around the notion that if you are a person of ethnic background, that alone is reason for others to forsake your rights, although in the long run justice will prevail
All in all, Boyz N’ the Hood seems to be the epitome of deviance and social control examples. The whole premise of the movie relies upon it. Through the various theories such as: Differential association, Control-bond theory, Labeling theory, Rational-choice theory, and the Strain theory Boyz N’ the Hood can be seen through a new scope. Certain aspects of the film become more apparent when compared to just watching the film for entertainment.
Conflict Theory is a theoretical orientation emphasizing the opposition among individuals, groups, or social structures. In the movie, the conflict theory was the black community verses the white community. For example, in the movie, Vernon Johns decided to enter a restaurant that was labeled whites only. As a black man by law he was not allowed to enter. At his own risk, he went inside anyways. As he entered, the white people inside suddenly stopped what they were doing. They all stared him down with an unwelcoming look. They shouted racial slurs at him as he sat down at the counter. There was a conflict between the two communities all because of the color of their skin
Although there were many concepts that were present within the movie, I choose to focus on two that I thought to be most important. The first is the realistic conflict theory. Our textbook defines this as, “the view that prejudice...
“We fight each other for territory; we kill each other over race, pride, and respect. We fight for what is ours. They think they’re winning by jumping me now, but soon they’re all going down, war has been declared.” Abuse, Pain, Violence, Racism and Hate fill the streets of Long Beach, California. Asians, Blacks, Whites and Hispanics filled Wilson High School; these students from different ethnic backgrounds faced gang problems from day to night. This movie contains five messages: people shouldn’t be judgmental because being open-minded allows people to know others, having compassion for a person can help people change their views in life, being a racist can only create hate, having the power of the human will/goodness to benefit humanity will cause a person to succeed at any cost and becoming educated helps bring out the intelligence of people.
His gang is subcultural; they have a shared defiance and delinquency to where they reject normal values. The interactionist
