Shortly after the birth of Jared Joseph Leto in December 26, 1971 Constance Metrejon and Anthony L. Bryant, the said man’s parents, filed for divorce. He was raised by a single mother who was also a traveling artist. They lived in a nomadic way often moving from place to place due to financial trouble, such as states like Wyoming, Colorado, and Virginia. The last name Leto came from his stepfather who adopted him and his brother but, ended up divorcing with their mother. In his teen years Jared Leto got mixed into some trouble. He began taking drugs and stealing."My experience with drugs?" he says. "I did them, lots of them. Here he played a murderer who modeled all of his killings after various urban legends. This film was a huge commercial success but most critics hated it. That same year along with big name celebrities such as John Travolta, Sean Penn, John Cusack, Adrian Brody, and Woody Harrelson to name a few, Leto was casted in The Thin Red Line. It was nominated for seven Oscars and did pretty well in the box office. Next year Leto is casted as a supporting role in Fight Club and Girl, Interrupted two well known films. As the year went on Jared pushed to star in more films that were controversial for some such as, Paul Allen a supporting role in American Psycho in 2000 and the main role in Requiem for a dream. Playing the main character Leto had to portray a heroin addict. He took the role so seriously that he even refused sex with his fiance at the time Cameron Diaz and lived in the streets of New York City. More film opportunities opened up at the turn of the century. Two years after releasing two successful movies he was offered another project, Panic Room, where he played the main villain. At the start of 1998, a 27 year old Jared co founded Thirty Seconds to Mars. When their first album titled Thirty Seconds to Mars came out in 2002, it attracted a moderate amount of fans. They decided to continue in the music business despite the low hype they received from releasing it. For three long years the band scheduled studio appointments in various locations trying hard to work around Leto’s acting. Although things were going well soon disaster befell the young group when legal trouble arose with their label. EMI/Virgin Records sued the band after they tried to move to another label after the release of their second album. The lawsuit was for $30 million dollars, they said the band's contract required them to release a few more albums under them. So, the band was forced to stay with the label.
