When Fire Burns What if she hadn’t woken up? What would have happened? Would we have survived? Would the firefighters have gotten here in time? Would we have even realized what was happening? Or would we have found out only to know that it was too late, when it had enclosed us. when it had burned it all down. It was a beautiful fall day with a slight breeze and the sun was shining. Ms. Ginger, had just pulled out a cigarette and as she smoked, she suddenly succumbed into drowsiness. She fell asleep. Later, she woke up to the strong smell of smoke as she glanced around her she suddenly realized- Her house was on FIRE! I was watching TV. with my younger brothers while my mom was making dinner, the smells of chicken …show more content…
“ Debra,” my oldest brother asked ‘what’s going to happen?” “It’s okay,” I lied. “Everything will be okay.” I didn’t know if I was trying to convince him or myself. This was the house that I have grown up in, every one of my best friends lived there and all my memories of home were there. I couldn’t sleep that night. Where would we go? Would any of my stuff survive? I had so many questions with no one to answer them. I went to school the next day, and let me make it clear, I did NOT want to go. My parents stayed in a hotel so I didn’t hear anything from them. I wanted to know what happened, but I would have to wait. The day seemed to take forever, were all days as long as this one? I checked the gray army clock in our classroom closely, waiting and waiting. When school finally ended, I was glad to see that my mom picked me up, but there wasn’t a moment to spare. “What happened to the house?” I blurted. “Did it burn all the way down?” “Can we go there right now?” My mom waited until I paused for an answer and gave me the news. “The firefighters don’t know how but our house survived,” she
Jeannette still remembers waking up in that hospital, the doctors all around her watching her wake. She was just three years old when the incident happened. During the incident, she had been making hot dogs, when all of a sudden, flames from the stove crawled up her little pink dress and lit her on fire. Her mother's activities were interrupted when she heard the sharp, painful screams coming from Jeannette. Her mother grabs her and her brother and gets a ride to the hospital.
My mind started to wonder though each room of the house, the kitchen where mom used to spend every waking hour in. The music room where dad maintained the instrument so carefully like one day people would come and play them, but that day never came, the house was always painfully empty. The house never quite lived to be the house my parents wanted, dust bunnies always danced across the floor, shelves were always slightly crooked even when you fixed them. My parents were from high class families that always had some party to host. Their children were disappointments, for we
I cried as we locked up the house for the last time. I felt like we had just spackled, primed, and painted over my childhood. I felt as if my identity had been erased, and like the character in the song, I had lost myself. There was no longer any physical evidence that I had ever lived in, much less grew up in, the house.
“I can’t believe all those houses that got destroyed during the fire hail. Do you know how close that ball of fire was to destroying our house Hu?”
Monday, the beginning of the week, like usual I got up very early to go to school. In school I was very sleepy just like every Monday. I didn’t feel like doing anything of the work the teacher instructed us to do, just like most people in class. So there I was sitting, then I started to daydream, I daydreamed about the boy I liked and me going out on a date just watching a movie and spending the day together. It was then that I looked at the clock and realized that more than fifteen minutes had passed and the class was over.
Little did I know, my grandchildren had tripped over the rug and tipped over the kerosene candle. Once I reached the kitchen, the flames had already consumed it,yet I had the courage to help my grandchildren. I ran up stairs to find Merry. “Please, Anne, save my children!” Merry said as she gasped for air.
Andrew asked, watching Jerry looking out the bay window as if daydreaming. “Jerry, are you okay?” “I’m sorry Dad, guess my mind was someplace else,” “I wish there was something we could do,” Margaret said as Jerry sat down on the sofa beside his dad. “Thank you, there isn’t anything anyone can do. A neighbor found Mom this morning with her head crushed,” Marlene said, tears filling her
Adam Kirkland Wilson Knight ENG1113 RYAK 9/2/16 Inside the Fire The sun shone brightly in the sky, and sounds and smells of spring wafted through the air to caress the senses of a young boy walking into town. Thick mud left over from the previous evening's showers quickly had begun to dry, and the boy couldn't help but stop for a moment to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of the bustling forest trail. Squirrels began to chatter excitedly, and knocked acorns from their already tentative perch among the boughs of a large oak. The young boy realized that the squirrels agitation stemmed from a strange man who approached further down the path, and cautiously stepped forward to greet the traveler.
I thought it was going to be another regular day, just drive back and forth to his friend’s house, but I was so wrong. On that day I defeated my greatest fear. Next day, my father woke me up, and he told me to get ready. It was seven o’clock in the morning. Being still sleepy, I opened the house outside door, and I woke up as soon as I breathed that strong cold morning air.
After reading both of the stories "The Story of an Hour” and “To Build a Fire” I have been asked which story I preferred more. Both of the stories had their own unique qualities that teaches different lessons. It was a hard choice to make but I chose the story "The Story of The Hour."
Glancing at himself through the rear-view mirror of his pickup truck, parked at the agreed upon coordinates, Fire combed over his hair one last time before stepping out. Spotting him should of been no problem, given his attire. He dressed in a red plaid long-sleeved shirt, tucked into plain bootcut denim jeans adorned by a flashy and obnoxious gold belt buckle, and worn out brown leather boots. He mulled over whether he should wear his ten-gallon hat or not admittedly, but opted out of it. Even he knew that’d be tacky. This was just supposed to be a casual meetup.
I scarcely snoozed at all, the day before; incidentally, I felt insecure regarding the fact of what the unfamiliar tomorrow may bring and that was rather unnerving. After awakening from a practically restless slumber, I had a hefty breakfast expecting that by the conclusion of the day, all I wanted to do is go back home and sleep. Finally, after it was over, my dad gladly drove me to school; there, stood the place where I would spend my next four years of my life.
but I was guessing that I looked horrified. Everything was on fire. The once subtle flame was slowly spreading, engulfing our barn in fire and turning it into ash. I stood there, not being able to do anything. I looked around to see if I could find my grandparents.
Wildfires are catastrophic disasters that destroy everything in their path. “A wildfire (also known as forest fire, grass fire, vegetation fire, etc) is an uncontrolled fire often occurring in wild land areas, but which can also consume houses or agricultural resources.” (Wildfire.) I slept a couple of more minutes. After while, the shine of the sun coming from the window woke me up.I slowly stretched my arms and slid out of bed. I brushed my teeth and took the shower. Downstair,my mother was calling me for breakfast.I was still undecided what should wear for school. After browsing for while I found something to wear, and finished getting myself ready for school. When I checked the clock, I was running late as usual, which was not a surprised. I quickly ate my half sandwich and left the rest of the sandwich on the table.I took my car key, jump in my black Lexus and made my way to school.During my way to school, I got a call from my friend John. John is my best friend since when we were in middle school. He told me that his car was broke down and he needed to ride to school. Fortunately, my friend house on my school way. I told my friend.
