What Role Does Fate Play In Macbeth's Journey

According to William Shakespeare, the creator of Macbeth, “Fate, show thy force; ourselves we do not owe; what is decreed must be, and be so.” What Shakespeare means is that controlling fate is not possible, and we need to accept what will happen. However, in Shakespeare’s story Macbeth, the titular character started to accept fate, until it turned into something he doesn’t want, with time. That is exactly why Macbeth was destined to fall, as soon as he rose to power. In the first stage of his journey, Macbeth has established a good life. Both personally and professionally, Macbeth has accomplished a great deal. First, professionally, Macbeth has survived a war, as mentioned in Act 1. He is then congratulated by the king, and is given immense amounts of respect and admiration. He’s even promoted to the Thane of Cawdor, since the last Thane was a traitor. Second, Macbeth has also accomplished a great deal personally, being his loving wife and a large house. At this stage, he allows his thirst for power to corrupt him. First, in Act II, his power causes him to become a murderer. This derived from Duncan’s murder and the murder of the two guards that were accused of the murder in Act 2, or more implied in said act. In Act III, Macbeth becomes worse than just a murderer. He becomes a tyrant, a tyrant. In this stage he tries to change his fate, killing Banquo, as stated in Act 3, scene 3. He tries to change the predictions so that his bloodline will keep on being king, when stated that is not the truth at all, Macbeth is trying to change fate. Finally, in Act IV, Macbeth becomes a friend. He acts like a dictator, silencing anyone who dares go against him, even in the slightest.
