What is Ubiquitous Computing ?
What is ubiquitous computing? An exciting new approach to serving us with technology? Or the environment where the virtuality will became the reality? Let's try to give the definition of ubiquitous computing, its development, including the key people and places influencing its development, and finally some concerns raised by this new approach for putting technology and people together.
Already, one name has been reoccurring when talking about ubiquitous computing: Mark Weiser. In 1991 Mark Weiser thought of as the founder of what we now term ubiquitous computing, wrote an article for Scientific American entitled "The Computer for the 21st Century". In it, Weiser describes the multiple computers in a room as tabs, pads and boards, which roughly correspond to active Post-It notes, sheets of paper, and white boards and bulletin boards. In this article he reasoned that a better approach would be to make the machine disappear, or become hidden from the user, so that its use would be non-intrusive, becoming a graceful part of our everyday life.
Ubiquitous computing, is a world where technology becomes virtually invisible in our lives. Instead of having a desk-top or lap-top machine, the technology we use will be embedded in our environment. Let's imagine a world with hundreds of wireless computing devices of different sizes in the same room.
Let's try to describe our one day in the new world of Pervasive Computing. It's morning and I need to get up .My alarm's gentle voice tells me "It's time ,you should get up" .Following it, I'm standing up. From the first step to the kitchen ,furniture asks "Would you want to eat or to drink ? Computers are everywhere in my room but i don't see none of them....

...e contrast is the same; these sciences are driven by the urge to understand and ours by the urge to build.
I consider that applications of ubiquitous computing in such a areas as Urban environment to systematically design environments that unite physical architecture with ubiquitous technologies as human computer interaction service directory , attention management , ubiquitous healthcare - warning people of their problems and gathering data for research, automating highway , to study monitoring and control of private vehicles on a public highway, with particular reference to efficiency of road use and to safety, will be very useful to our world.
So, as we aim to create new systems that we do not yet fully understand, we shall need to create models - that will help us to improve our understanding and building the new world the World of Ubiquitous Computing.
... newest way to connect to others without needing human interaction. It’s impossible to know when technology will become "too" invasive and society "too" hollow, but by the time anyone looks hard enough, nothing but empty, soul-devoid, trademarked windows will blink in return.
In the article “Retreat Into The iWorld” by Andrew Sullivan, he explains and analyzes the impact of technology on society. According to Sullivan, technology is narrowing people’s minds. The author talks about “iPod people” and that relates to the narrowing of the mind because these people are all consumed by the music in their ears and not the people or things around them. The author also expresses how he himself is one of these “iPod people”. Sullivan used an example of when he went on a trip and forgot his I Pod. He realized that it was strange not having the device and he was actually noticing the things around him such as the noises from the car, nature, and the people around him. Sullivan also explains in this article that the technology is spreading.
Handheld displays are computing devices with a display that the user can hold in their hands. Video-see-through techniques overlay graphics onto the real environment and employ sensors, such as GPS units, Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and accelerometers for their six degrees of freedom tracking. Currently smart-phones and Tablet PCs are the most popular types of handheld device. Smart-phones and tablets are very portable and have many capabilities. They are becoming increasingly more powerful with advances in their hardware and software capabilities. This makes them a very
There is no doubt that the technological advances in recent years have changed the way we live. We are now able to talk to people in any part of the world within six seconds, we can watch events from any country such as the Olympic Games live on television screens in our own living room’s, we can even have interactive video conversations through as small a device as a mobile phone. These advances have benefited millions of people worldwide but we have reached a stage where it is now time to stop and think of what is happening to us as a result of all this automation and modernisation; we are becoming over-dependent on electronic devices to carry out simple tasks, we are becoming less and less aware of people and activities in our own communities, even family activities are gradually becoming a thing of the past.
It has become a reflexive instinct to reach out for our phones whenever it lights up with a notification. With the proliferation of social media, we share and receive information about daily lives of ourselves and other people, even when we are physically apart. Our daily use of technology including but not limited to the Internet, social media platforms, electronic devices etc. demonstrates how we participate in forming and simultaneously subjected to these networks. The omnipresence of technology- communication (phones, emails), control (surveillance, military), life support (medical-related) etc.- signifies the extent technology has become integrated and interwoven into our daily lives.
The use of technology makes our daily tasks easier, such as a better sense of direction while driving via a GPS, safety features in our cars such as Auto Drive and Auto Park. These technologies have made driving an easier and enjoyable experience as well as reducing our chances of getting into accidents. The research presented in the following article “Driven to Distraction [in car technology]” provided surprising conclusions. Professor John D Lee from the University of Iowa states the following issue: “Technology is changing very quickly. Many of these things coming into the car were not designed to be used in it.”(Edwards 8). He proves that there are a lot of in car technologies in today’s society that can demand our full attention without us even knowing, and can lead to tremendous consequences that can become dangerous distractions on the road. Satellite navigation (GPS) makes our lives easier because it can give us the correct directions to a desired address. This is unlike the past where the navigationally challenged would consider it a nightmare to drive to a new location.
Turkle praise our newly find explorations that’s available in the cyberspace; however, she fails to examine why we are addicted to the relationship we have with computing. How have our social norms and expectation forced us to search for new avenues of freedom in a computer, which in return made us addicts? Turkle could have gone into further detail on what is so attractive about these machines that give them the power to control our social well-being and completely transform our world? In addition, her claim that the distinction of computers from human is becoming more abstract is true. Today, computers are doing the unthinkable in every way possible and it is starting to seem as if everything humans can do, computer cannot only do those things, but they can do it
Even as I sit here typing this paper, my own shiny, rectangular piece of molded plastic and metal lies inches away from my fingertips, beckoning me to use it. Looking out the window, one of the first sights I see are people walking with one hand up to their ear, evidence this technology is in use. I can count on one hand the number of adults I know who do not own one these mobile devices. People are now able to be virtually accessible almost anywhere at any time.
One of the most important components of leadership is the leader. A leader is responsible for his or her followers and the overall goal of the group or organization. Leaders are the people held accountable or everything that happens, good or bad. On the other hand, the second major component of leadership is the followers. Without followers, a leader would be worthless. Followers make up the backbone of a leader because they are the masses that get goals accomplished. A leader is just one person, but the number of followers is countless. In order to be an effective follower, there are a countless number of characteristics that allow a follower to be the best they can be. Five of these characteristics include a positive attitude, communication skills, being part of the process, being open to new ideas, and patience.
In the fast pace world today, almost anywhere you go, you’ll run into some type of technology. New devices and upgrades are happening every day with technology such as computer, cell phones, TVS and even devices used for playing music. When you think about the way devices are now, it’s hard to believe that nearly twenty years ago, none of this was possible. Technology continues to change each and every day, making business, school and even our social lives easier to navigate.
Over the years, man has come up with countless inventions, each more resourceful than the last. However, as the computer age continues, mankind is threatened. Ridiculous, some may say, but I say look around! The computer has already begun to control so many of the vital functions that man has prided himself upon before. Our lives are now dependent on a computer and what it tells you. Even now, I type this essay on a computer, trusting that it will produce a result far superior to what I can do with my own to hands.
The World Turning Digital: computer is seen in virtually all aspects of our lives. From the mobile phones we use, the Television we watch etc. Makes it pretty interesting to found out how this work.

computer. The electronic computer has been around for over a half-century, but its ancestors have been around for 2000 years. However, only in the last 40 years has it changed the American society. From the first wooden abacus to the latest high-speed microprocessor, the computer has changed nearly every aspect of people’s lives for the
From classroom activities to space flight and everything in between, computers are a vital part of daily life. Everything we do and every aspect of our life is affected by modern technology, like the computers. Computers let us dissect any sort of data. Computers make us reflect, hence we develop. Because of computers and the Internet, we can talk with individuals from diverse nations, and even see them via webcams.
