In our youth and beauty culture, every time we open a magazine, turn on the TV, or drive past a billboard, we see how far our true beauty is from the standard perpetuated by the media. Our beauty is defined by how we look instead of who we are. I believe that true beauty should be define by who we are. I decided to conduct a research project on Women’s Beauty. I wanted to see how much we time and money is spent on make-up and how women define true beauty.
I wanted to know how other women felt towards their own beauty. The only way to get this information is conducting survey. I conducted a survey for my first genre. Majority of my responders were Asians and between the age of 20-25. Personality made the top list of characteristics that makes a woman beautiful. Almost every responder who took the survey listed personality. Self-confidence, positivity, and kindness were some other characteristics. Most of these women believe that a woman’s beauty is more than just her appearance and looks. More than half of these women put on make-up daily and spends about 25-40 minutes every morning on their appearance. Majority of them spends about $30-60 dollars on make-up every month while the others spend between $10-30 a month. 2 women believe outer beauty is more important, 3 believe both are, and 20 of them believe inner beauty is more important. I choose a collage as my 3rd genre to visually show my audience what true beauty is. I wanted to influence younger girls and show everyone that there is more important characteristic to a women’s beauty than just their appearance. I based my collage off from the 1st genre which was the survey. I gathered photos from the internet but mostly from magazines that I had at home. Self-confidence was one of the top characteristic listed on my survey that makes a woman truly beautiful. I found a beautiful picture of a women who is positive, happy, and sure show that she is confident in her own skin I placed that image in the middle of my collage. The images of the faces placed around the center image portrays all the beautiful woman of all races. I just didn’t want to focus on one race because every woman no matter what ethnicity they are, is beautiful. I incorporated some words and phrases in my collage as well. Including some phrases will help my audience see what really makes a woman beautiful. I included photos of family, commitment, personality, positive thinking, goals, education, and of course, make-up. Make-up products was the last thing photos I put surrounding my center image since the importance of inner beauty comes before outer beauty.
