What Is The White Lie In The Crucible

Some people were being accused of being a witch and they said that they needed to be hanged. In the book, The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller. The story took time in 1692 to 1693 of Salem witch trials. The trials took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The play was first performed on Broadway on January 22, 1953. In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, the White Lie and Ignoring the Plain Facts are used by people that are in power that can get away of lying.
The White Lie is a harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone’s feeling and it is used between Abigail and John. Lie is to speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, as with intent to deceive and lying connects to power because people are empower

that can get away of lying. John is using the white lie when John Proctor said this to Abigail. “I am using extreme blood image to emphasise the strength of his determination and never to do this again.” (Miller 28.) This type of lie is a white lie because John Proctor is telling the truth, but it is not the real truth to Abigail with the intent of sparing. This lie is used to help Proctor get away with lying because Proctor is telling that he is using his strength with blood and he will never do this again with anyone. Abigail is using the white lie for telling that John Proctor with Sarah Good is helping the devil. (Miller 47.). This type of lie is a white lie because Abigail is telling the truth that really seemed so to Danforth. This show that people in power get away with lying because they are telling lies that sounds like the truth, but it isn’t.
An Ignoring the Plain Facts is used and it is covering for one’s wrong doing, it is used between Abigail and John Proctor to empower lying that can get away of lying. Lies is to speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly as with intent to deceive and lie connects to power because people are empower that can get away of lying. John is using ignoring the plain facts and said “you’ll speak nothin’ of Elizabeth!” (Miller 33.) This type of lie is an ignoring the plain facts because John Proctor is covering up for Elizabeth wrong doing. This lie show that people in power can get away with lying because they can covered up other people’s wrong doing without the major official noticing. Abigail is using ignoring the plain facts and said “She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her! Let her turn you like a…” (Miller 33.) This type of lie is ignoring the plain facts because Abigail is covering up someone else and blaming on a different person. This lie show people in power get away with lying because people are covering up someone else tracks and then blaming on somebody else instead.
In the play, The Crucible is using Ignoring the Plain Facts and the White Lie which makes people in power so they can get away of lying. A real world example for ignoring the plain facts are when you break something in your house and blame someone else that they did it. Also, a real world example for White Lie is when you go into a store and buy exactly the same thing that your friend told you to buy it, but you want it so badly also; you are trying to make excuses so you will be able to buy it. These lies are important because there are actually multiple of different kind of lies and when you lie to someone; you are using different lies throughout your life period, not the same type of lie, quite interesting right…?
