A Time to Kill directed by Joel Schumacher took place in Mississippi in 1996. The movie is related to the tension between the white and black communities during that era. It talks about the rape of a ten-year-old black girl, Tonya, by two white men. Tonya was beaten, tortured, and mutilated. Hailey met with lawyer, Jake Brigance, in the store and he told him that he is going to do something to the rapists. While the rapists were heading to the judge's chambers, Hailey came up with a rifle and shot and killed the two rapists and shot the officer in the leg. Hailey ran to his home to say goodbye to his wife and kids before he was arrested. Hailey knew what would happen to a black man who killed white men and did not believe he would have an opportunity
