What Is The Political Effects Of The Cold War

The Cold War was a political battle between the western powers, the US and Britain, and the Soviet Union, that began as a result of events occurring after WWII, and lasted for 45 years. During the war, the relationship between the Soviets and the western powers was strained due to differences in war tactic beliefs and ideologies. The only effort that united these nations was the fight against Nazi Germany. Each nation had opposing beliefs, ideologies, and political views, causing tension to build during WWII, and erupt as the Cold War. This war without weapons ended shortly after the collapse of the Berlin wall in 1991, and the effects of this political struggle continue to affect society today.
Many events led to the start of the Cold War, including conferences such as Tehran, and Yalta.
I was surprised to learn that over eight billion dollars was spend towards the military and defense. As a result of the excessive spending, the Russian economy suffered greatly after the Cold War. Despite all this spending, there was no clear winner of this war without violence. Much of this rivalry was due to differences in political views, and even miscommunication. In defense of the extreme spending, the space race proved to be a huge breakthrough in technology and exploration. This competition led to the creation of satellites and space probes which we continue to use today. Without the rapid expansion of space exploration, we would lack weather satellites, GPS, and the International Space Station which continues to be a space research hub. The creation of NASA proves to be one of the largest successes as a result of the Cold War.
There remain aspects of the Cold War that proved to be unbeneficial, and others that paved the way for advancement on a global scale. In regards to the goals of the US and USSR, the Cold War resulted in the success of the US, crushing communism and expanding
