CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Terminal pins The terminal pins are also known as connector pins. An electrical connector is an electro-mechanical device for joining electrical circuits as an interface using a mechanical assembly. Terminals are the metal components in a connector that conduct current. They are usually either male or female, as shown in the figure 1.1 Figure 1.1: Male and Female terminal pins The terminals are fitted into the connector housings as shown in figure 1.2. Housing is a connector's casing which is made of molded plastics such as polyamide, polycarbonate, polyethylene etc. The main function of housing is to hold the terminals and protect them from electrical shorting, electrical interference, dust, dirt, and moisture. …show more content…
The study concludes the steps to perform the test and tables the result of weld quality and quantifies a technique to determine weld strength of the fusion zone. The review of the literature indicated that most of the authors have worked on sheet metal shearing and resistance spot welding of various metals. Investigations on resistance spot welding of brass sheet are scarce. The authors agree that the main issue of resistance spot welding of brass sheet is due to its high electrical conductivity which in turn requires high current to reach the required heat necessary to form the weld nugget. The main objective of this project was to investigate the influence of blade and clearance on the work material and the parameters affecting resistance spot welding such as heat transfer from the electrodes to the sheet-sheet interface, current requirement to achieve the necessary heat to form weld nugget and influence of clamping force on sheet welding. Objectives Design of a jig to ensure cutting of terminal pins at the bridge. Design of a welding mechanism to weld the terminal pins at the bridge into a continuous

-Pipe welders can obtain the education needed from a variety of education programs available at trade schools and community colleges.
What is welding some may ask. “Welding is the use of brazing or soldering to join together or split apart pieces of metal.” Says miller electric inc. The First recorded forms of welding was from the bronze age when metal boxes were made by “pressure welding lap joints together.” In medieval times welding was used by hammer to forge weapons of different types. “It was actually not until the late 1800’s that traditional welding
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. (bls) There are over 100 different welding processes that a welder can learn how to use however, Stick, Tig and Mig are the 3 most common used in the industry. These are used most to maintain equipment
]. Some alloying elements sometimes added to impart special characteristics to brass. Lead, which is insoluble in copper alloys, used to improve machinability of leaded brass. However, Pb and Bi or other elements that are used to improve the machinability often deteriorate the low and high temperature ductility of brass [11]. The content of Pb element is varies between 2.5 and 3.5 %, which make the machining processes at high speed and good surface [12]. The solubility of lead in copper alloys is very low therefore, it is found in microstructure as dispersed globules all over the material. These globules lead act as a lubricant decreasing the friction coefficient between the tools and the materials by creating discontinuities of chip fragmentation. Therefore, it makes reducing in cutting force and then, the tools wear rate is minimized [13]. Different alloying elements help to improving the machinability are usually added to brass. The most common element using in this situation is lead, which improving the machinability with
Gas metal arc welding, or most commonly referred to as MIG welding is a very common and sometimes preferred method of welding. Gas metal arc is personally one of the easiest and controllable welding types there is.
Welding is a very important job in today’s society. With new building designs, and bridges to every day metal products, welders are needed to do these tasks. Almost everything that you use every day has some sort of weld to it.
Welding can be traced back to the ancient times. One of the earliest methods of welding is bronze age. when ancient people back then had small gold circular were made by pressured welding lap joined together. Then in the Iron Age the Egyptians and people in the eastern area learned to weld pieces of iron together. In the middle age blacksmithing was developed. Blacksmithing is when you weld a piece of metal and hammering it but it was in the 19 century that welding was invented as they know it today.
In doing so, they weld metal parts, fill holes, and can even repair cracks in a brace. Because of its heavy duty strength, welds can be used to repair cars, ships, and even airplanes. Also, welds are used in the construction of buildings and bridges. Various tools are needed to perform proper welding techniques, for example, a person may need clamps, welding rods, a chipping hammer, a torch, glasses, a welding helmet, an apron or non flammable clothing to properly weld metal. In addition, a person may also need a specific type of welder for a certain occasions.

T.I.G ( Tungsten Inert Gas) is a challenging process to learn. Jonathan Atteberry claims that “ T.I.G welding is difficult to learn and requires an elaborate welding rig of skills. It also uses a lot of electricity to make the welds clean and spatter less” (Parag 5). T.I.G welding is hard to learn because of people having different hand coordination. Most people would expect a long time to weld TIG because it is hard and requires a lot...
Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, aerospace application, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. Welding is also used in the construction of buildings, bridges, and joining pipes in pipelines for power plants and refineries. The work that welders do and the equipment they use vary with the industry. Welders also study blueprints or specifications, calculate dimensions to be welded, inspect structures or materials to be welded, ignite torches or start power supplies, monitor the welding process to avoid overheating,
Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

There is different types of rods and different types of ways to weld. You need a lot of training for it. There are many schools and colleges you can go to receive welding education. The most common welding processes are Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. The easiest of these is the Gas Metal Arc Welding. Welding options are stick, flux core, tig, and mig. The pipeline tig and stick welds a lot more than the other .The pipeline use many types of techniques but, the most common on the pipeline is downhill root pass and the up hill pass. The median annual wage of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is
