Short report on mig welding process
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Gas metal arc welding, or most commonly referred to as MIG welding is a very common and sometimes preferred method of welding. Gas metal arc is personally one of the easiest and controllable welding types there is.
Gas metal arc welding was originally made for weld materials such as aluminum, copper, brass, tin and lead. It was also used on steels, but shielding gases were highly expensive in the early 1900s limiting GMAW’s use on steel. It wasn’t till the mid 1900’s for GMAW to really take off. There were many different variations of arc-length, electrode size, and power supply units. Since the MIG welder is so versatile, there are many different types of things to make this piece of equipment.
Welding Gun
The MIG welder is simply made of five basic parts to complete the task of GMAW. No matter what on any MIG, you need to have a welding gun whether it is spooled by the machine or contains a mechanism to spool from an electrode spool mounted on it. Your welding gun consists of many parts that make GMAW possible. First off it consist of a trigger that when pulled starts the feed of electrode, gas, and initiates power to your contact tip. Your contact tip is highly conductive, usually made of copper, and is connected to the power source. Once you pull the trigger your contact tip is then contacting your electrode wire making it possible to strike an arc. The welding gun also consists of a gas hose that is ran from your machine that leads to a gas diffuser usually behind your contact tip. It then exits into a part that goes around the contact tip and diffuser known as the gas nozzle. The gas nozzle is there to evenly direct your gas into your welding area.
Power Supply
Next you have to have a power supply to ge...

...mmonly we use an electrode close to our material’s thickness and also keep arc length longer sometimes to keep heat input to a minimum. When welding body panels we weld not in one spot, but around the entire replacement panel to insure not heat warping which saves time in the end. GMAW works really well on replacement frame parts for unibody cars and even on aftermarket add-ons such as sub-frame connectors. You can also use GMAW to repair fractured or rusted suspension parts such as radius arms and brackets.
Depending on your material type and thickness GMAW can be a very good choice of welding style. It has a wide variety of materials it can be used with and get in a lot of tight spots easier than other types of welding. To this day the GMAW is one of the most favorable welding types especially in industry subjected jobs, the automotive industry for example.
There are many internal parts to the injector. Starts with a barrel then moves down to a plunger then there is a check valve, below that is a spacer with the nozzle springs inside of it, lastly is the nozzle. All of these parts have specific and unique jobs. Nozzle has a needle in it that works kind of like a piston that once the pressure build up the needle forces forward and sprays fuel. There is a spacer above the nozzle with the nozzle springs that force the needle down. Above the spacer is a check valve, the check valve allows the right amount of fuel into the nozzle. The plunger and barrel are located above the check valve. It has a spring on the plunger that has to hold resistance of the pressure until it reaches the correct amount before it will let the injector fires. There is two internal o-rings one that is around the plunger and one that sets between the nut and body.
scientific experiments (Go welding: history of welding 1). Conventional welding is most easily explained as arc welding processes. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. These and other processes classified as conventional welding processes are the best processes for welding jobs because they are more cost effective, more...
The oxyacetylene torch is one of the most reliable types of oxy-fuel torches out there. These torches use a combination of oxygen as well as fuel gas (acetylene), to cut and weld metals. Acetylene makes a very hot and steady flame, which can be effectively used to precisely cut or melt
Tomorrows Welders Thomas Jefferson said, “I find that the harder I work, the less I call it work”. I have often found myself in situations where I needed to fix something but could not because it is metal. I believe this might be why I began to show interest in welding. There is great satisfaction in being able to create or fix a metal object on your own.
Oxy- fuel welding is usually called in workplace/trades terms oxy acetylene welding, gas welding and oxy fuel cutting which are all use fuel and oxygen to cut and weld metals together. It all started with the famous chemist Edmund Davy, who is suppose to be considered as the first man to make acetylene. By accident in 1836 Edmund while trying to make potassium created a black compound which was mixed with water create a gas that burned greatly. Edmund wanted to use this gas to make lights but the materials and production would cost to much. Calcium carbide was not identified until 1862. In 1892 calcium carbide was created by accident when trying to create calcium from coal tar when the production reacted with water.
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. (bls) There are over 100 different welding processes that a welder can learn how to use however, Stick, Tig and Mig are the 3 most common used in the industry. These are used most to maintain equipment
Welding is a very important job in today’s society. With new building designs, and bridges to every day metal products, welders are needed to do these tasks. Almost everything that you use every day has some sort of weld to it.

There is a type of welding that utilizes hydrogen, called Atomic Hydrogen Welding. The welding tool is two tungsten steel rods, acting as electrodes, through which passes an arc of electricity. Hydrogen gas is pump through the arc, and the temperature of the arc disassociates the gas into individual molecules, which absorb an incredible amount of heat. When the gas passes through the arc, it reassembles itself, and burns ordinarily, and using oxygen in the air. This is the hottest type of welding process yet; with a flame of over 7232 degrees F. it was invented in 1926, and was used extensively in Germany during WWII.
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that “ GMAW is an economic process because it has higher speeds and higher deposition rates than manual arc welding. There is also no need to constantly change electrodes” (Page 11). GMAW has a higher speed, which means that you can get the job done faster. It also has high deposition rates which makes the weld look clean and smooth.” This method can be used for a high range of work, but it is not suited for repair work because of it’s weld quality” (Page 4).
Welding is warm and dangerous work, so selecting the proper PPE for welding is crucial. With welding, employees comprehend that PPE is obligatory - so you’re not likely to look a person skipping out on critical safety gear; however, consolation and healthy are vital to preserving you going all day.
nozzle with the thumb or forefinger (Figure 2). The force created due to this pressure pushes the nozzle down. The tube, connected to the nozzle, is also pushed down and in turn compresses the spring (Figure 3). The air in the chamber has nowhere to go and is forced up the tube and out through the nozz...
Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

Welding is a very important tool used in our daily lives. Welding is the process of joining two metal pieces together by applying heat. A filler helps to make the joint. Everything we use from trucks to houses have some type of welding in them. There are many types of welding careers to choose from. There is a great demand for welders today. My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
