People get the yin yang symbol tattooed on their bodies or draw it on paper, but not many know its true meaning. My initial assumption was that the symbol was solely a captivating image. I drew it all over the margins of my homework and on the blank spaces of tests. Imagine a Chemistry exam on the Periodic Table of Elements covered in different sized yin yang symbols. I was struck by its simplicity. My fascination grew due to the fact that I had discovered something I could easily draw. I have always heard my mom say that some people have a “black and white way of thinking”, but I never understood the concept until now. The Chinese believed that there were only two forces in our universe. This would mean that everything is either right or wrong. There is no in between. The two colors in the symbol never overlap to create the color grey. They are both independent but cannot be separated. The two halves make up the symbol as a whole. No matter how you divide the symbol, the black part will always have a piece of the white part and vice versa. They are two separate entities that balance each other. Yin and Yang is an ancient Chinese philosophy that says everything in the world works through opposing energies and that everything has its counter part which balances the world out. This idea of counter parts also carries into literature as shown in the book Sula by Toni Morrison. According to social conventions the character Nel is the yang (positive character/good) and Sula is the yin (negative character/evil). This is the way both characters are viewed on sole terms of how they conform to society. Nel is shown to be a good character because she plays a socially expectable role as a women and mother, while Sula conforms to no social stereotypes and let's almost nothing hold her back, thus she is viewed as evil.

This form of treatment views all medical phenomena as cause-effect sequences and relies on drugs, radiation and surgery to alleviate symptoms and cure diseases. As you see, the two types of medicine are completely challenged differently depending on the doctor, the diagnosis, and the treatment options. All of these are completely different when compared with each other.
