Wonder, it is something that all of us around the world can experience. We really have no idea of what wonder actually is and what it really means. Samuel Johnson and Albert Einstein both have different views of what wonder means to them. Personally I agree with Einstein more than Johnson. I have experienced wonder before, and this is how I would describe it. First it is something that makes you think. Then, it gives you motivation to do something. Finally it is something that you can experience from anything. Wonder is something that everyone has experienced. Some people do not believe they have experienced true wonder, but in reality everyone has. The first reason I think this is because wonder makes you think of your life. When you are doing something that just gives you a sensation of awe, that is the feeling of wonder. You sit there in awe and you start to think of what this is doing to you, what it is making you think of your life and where it is going to go. When I went to a concert in Denver Colorado, I experienced this feeling of wonder. The first thing I did was start to think that this is what I want to do when I grow up. That I want to work hard and achieve a spot as a famous song …show more content…
Once the feeling of wonder enters your mind, you start to feel this sense of motivation and the sense that you need to go out and accomplish whatever it is that you are feeling in awe about. Like Einstein said it is the source of all true art and science. When I was at the concert, after being in awe and thinking that this may be the thing that I want to do, I felt this sense of urgency. I wondered what that urgency was for a moment and then realized that it was motivation, motivation for me to put it in my head that I can do that. Wonder makes you want to put in lots of work, and prove that whatever made you feel wonder; you can reach it and prove that it did make you feel that sense of awe and
...an peacefully go to sleep at night, knowing that people would say that and know that I can make the world a better place and not just throw away money on unnecessary things. I am a smart and strong fighter and know how to get to my enemy; it’s necessary to become the next Pound for Pound Champion, I want my whole country to look up to me because it would be the greatest privilege to have in your whole life; knowing that the people respect you and having the ability to represent them in a great way, and finally, I have so much money and fame that you can change the world and make sure you have an leave your mark on it. With all the glory and fame you can actually make yourself known by doing the people a favor and showing that you aren't a typical star; all while enjoying myself and living the life I have at such a young age that I would be more than thankful for.
Imagination enables doctors to discover new ways of curing a disease, but also to discover new ways of inflicting pain. An imaginative vision of a paradise may inspire improvements, but may also convince people to eliminate obstacles that get in their way for their vision. In that respect, imagination is like knowledge. It can’t be good or bad. The more vivid the idea is, the more likely it is to motivate someone. If you want to reach a certain dream than you have to imagine
The first chapter focusses heavily on the different concepts of wonder and the mysteries that surround such a notion. Wonder itself is not simply something for one culture, or one individual rather it is a universal concept that is observed in many different ways. In fact, Nava hints early in the chapter that wonder can actually be used as a type of communication, “wonder is always a form of communication, but it reaches for what is unsayable over what can be said” (pg. 13). In fact, Nava even mentions that wonder can go beyond being just a form of communication as well, “It is an experience...something so novel and strange that it overwhelms and dazzles the most familiar categories of human knowledge and understanding” (pg. 13). These conceptions of wonder are not something new to the human race. Rather it has been studied for hundreds of years, probably most notably by Descartes of the enlightenment era. Descartes had different views on the concept of wonder and proclaimed that wonder can be fearful as well as delightful and that it, “prevents or perverts the use of reason and thwarts the acquisition of knowledge” (pg. 14). Many refinements of this concept have been put forth by various authors. One simple one that appears to improve greatly upon the original formulation is that knowing what it is like to have an experience is equivalent to the ability to recognize that experience by its phenomenal quality.
For the first cultural event, I decided to visit the Orlando Museum of Art. Personally, I had never been to an art museum until now so I wasn’t sure what the art would like. I never had an interest to go to an art museum or an interest for art in general because it is very uninteresting in my opinion. I felt like I didn’t belong in the art world. I felt like art was meant for intelligent individuals who understood complex art and the intentions behind a piece of art. Even if I tried to understand art, I was always very critical of it because I never understood what makes art “art” and why it is so important to others. By touring the Orlando Museum of Art, I was hoping to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding for art.
Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. I had not taken any extra writing classes before this year rather than the mandatory ones. Like I had stated before, I hate writing, with a passion. I dread writing anything, especially an essay for school, like this one. I’m
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
Each of our faiths and reasoning are based on our cultural beliefs, behavior, and how we come to rationalize sense in our lives; along with a belief that does not require proof. Reason holds justification and intellectual faculty by which our conclusions are based via a truth or non-truth in why we are faithful. The enriched imagination that one holds is part of that “something special” which helps progress our lives to the next level giving freedom to feel, think, and wonder all the possibilities of life has to offer. Our existence as humans has allowed us this pleasure without reservation.
In times, we often see things, but we don't really capture what is beyond it. In some cases, there are people who are artistic and are prone to see what other's cannot visualize. Every individual has a talent which can be expressed and processed differently. Something you see can mean entirely divergent things to someone else;for example, some may see thing's that may seem simple, but in the eyes of an artist, it can be perceived with a whole new definition, dimension, and a potentially new discovery. As a photographer, my view of the world, can be skewed towards looking at everyday objects as potential art, but it wasn't always like that.
According to the editors of the Wesleyan Anthology of Science Fiction, the term ‘sense of wonder’ refers to “a sense of awe” felt by an individual “undergoing vast transformative power(s) […] (and) the possibility of […] social and technological changes” (Evans et al. xvii). As the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction explains, it is a term originating from the 1940s, that at its basis, describes an experience that produces “rapt emotive fascination” over a particular subject or situation of focus (SFE) (OED). However, while a sense of wonder often entails the sublime—an experience that offers extreme feelings of “excellence, grandeur, or beauty”—and as such, appears positive, by privileging emotions it also has the potential to promote a sense
Impressions are given sensations that arise from "unknown causes". Remember that what we know are our impressions, according to this trend. Whether there is something that corresponds to these impressions is unknown, for we don't know real being, we know impressions (a la Descartes).
What is the definition of wonder? Is it a feeling or an emotion? When you first see a baby one says that they are in wonder. When I first saw my little sister I was in wonder for how someone so pure could be stuck in such a treacherous world. I was thinking of so many things and so many emotions were running through my mind. I could not fathom how she could be so beautiful. In small words I was at awe, shocked and mostly wordless.
Knowledge allows you to prove your facts. It’s the awareness one has about things. Imaginations, at times, can be uncertain. Knowledge leads us to imagination. We can imagine, only if we know. Knowledge is through your hard work and experience. One should not compare two different poles together.
All throughout time people have used their imaginative minds to express some form of art, whether it be painting, drawing, sculpture, and dance, theatre, music or technology, this has happened all around the world. Furthermore, I think that the youth of the world have the biggest imagination because everything to them is new and they can’t help but imagine “what if” or “how”. Therefor that’s the power of imagination, and preferably for me I use it for art. Art to me is almost like an escape from everything negative in my life. Many say that art is beauty, and we say beauty ...
