What does it Mean to Dream On? The very first time I heard the song “Dream On” by Aerosmith was a cold dark day that I spent in my basement with my father. Going through all of the old tapes he had from his childhood, we came across an Aerosmith track. He played the tape and “Dream On” was the first song that came on. Being the young kid that I was at the time, the words did not mean anything to me. However, I still loved the song for its extremely strong and moving performance. It was truly beautiful and it stuck with me for a long time. For a while I thought there was no way that the original performance of “Dream On” could be topped. Until I saw the first episode of The Voice 2016 where Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton, and Miley …show more content…
While both performances are remarkable, they both have their differences. Each of the respective differences create different meanings and messages. While both performances use the exact same lyrics of the song, the message the performance is conveying is completely different. Aerosmith is an American rock band, with a touch of blues to all of their music that was originally formed together in Boston, Massachusetts. It is quite the interesting story of how the band came together in the first place. The main guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton played together in a band that was separate from Aerosmith. In the year 1971 the two of them combined together with Steven Tyler, Joey Kramer, and Ray Tabano to perform the band Aerosmith. After some early successful releases, the band was signed to Columbia Records in 1972. “Dream On” was not their only success as they had their first five albums reach platinum status and are statistically the best selling rock band of all time. “Dream On” was released on June 27, 1973 as one of their hard rock/blues songs. This piece was written by Steven Tyler himself and he claims that it is the one song he sang true with. As in, this was the …show more content…
The Voice is an American television show that is geared towards audiences of all ages and it's goal is to discover unseen talent by singing performers that are above the age of thirteen years old. The show begins with the blind auditions where the performer sings to the “judges” or coaches, and they can choose whether or not they are interested and turn their chair around. These are called the “blind auditions”. After performing their blind audition, if the singer has multiple coaches interested, she will have to make a choice of whose team they wants to join. The singer will then work with this coach the duration of the season to try and be the last singer standing. The voting works similar to American Idol where the audience can submit votes through text messages, emails, and by downloading their song cover off of iTunes. The winner receives one hundred thousand US dollars and a record deal with Universal Music Group. Truly, the bond that is created between coach and singer is incredibly strong. This is how more than ever in the bond between coach Adam Levine and contestant Christina Grimmie, who was tragically shot and killed on June 10th, 2016. She was just twenty two years old. The cover of Dream On was performed by the coaches of The Voice USA 2016 as tribute to the beautiful young star, who would have gone out to do great things. The judges included, Adam Levine,
John Legend created his cover album Wake Up, using a variety of soul and funk tracks from the early 70s. Using the same time period as Hathaway’s career, Legend worked with The Roots to create their own spin on famous tracks. They did so to promote the songs and bring back their important themes of hope and activism. John Legend’s Wake Up album and Donny Hathaway’s Live album seem to cover similar songs from a range of genres. They both covered tracks from Marvin Gaye and other like sounds with touches of gospel, soul, and rock. John Legend also sampled songs spanning over several genres of iconic tracks, including Donny Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy.” John Legend teamed up with The Roots back in 2010, to cover the song as an ode to Donny Hathaway and his music career. His rendition of the song differed to the original in a number of ways. Legend’s collaboration with The Roots brought a new age rap element to the song, without straying too far from the core of it. John Legend’s vocals add a more upbeat melody, which is a noticeable change from Donny Hathaway’s recordings. Both versions of the song keep the instruments to go along with their own soulful voices to add a jazz element to the
Carrie Underwood was the new American Idol. The Oklahoma native country girl beat her runner up rocker from Alabama, Bo Bice. Not only did Underwood win the title she also won the $1 million dollar record contract (Silverman). Then at the age of twenty-two Carrie belted her last song of the competition, “Angels Brought Me Here” to get people’s votes for the season finale. “You have lots of guts. You’re competing with someone who’s older. Carrie, I think you’ve done enough to win this competition, said judge Simon Cowell (Silverman).” With not only the harshest judge on her side, but America as well there was not doubt Carrie would win the title. “Thank you so much, everybody,” said Carrie as she was crying. She then sang her new single to be released June 14, “Inside Your Heaven”

First I would like to describe in detail my analysis of the first version which was recorded live from London in 1972. This particular version of the song is performed by Stan Kenton's big band orchestra.
Since he was young, he had a dream to do what he loves most, and that is to sing. Kenny Chesney has become famous for singing about his own life, which is particularly apparent in the song, “Back Where I Come From.” Ultimately, it seems that he wants his audience to feel what he feels and be where he has been. My audience is smart. They are real people who lead whole lives,”(“Kenny Chesney”) explains Chesney.
To do what makes oneself happy. The American Dream is represented in many different ways and every person lives and chases a different version of the American Dream. Chris McCandless lived his American dream by walking alone into the wilderness of Alaska. The song written by Toby Keith, “American Soldier”, shows the price some pay for their dreams and ours to come true. Jay Gatsby died trying to acheive his dream and get the girl he loved, but died happy because he had pursued her until his death. The band All Time Low wrote a song called “The Reckless and The Brave” that brings a new light to how we go about achieving our dreams. So I believe that the American Dream is all about doing what will make you the happiest in the end.
Dreaming is a big part of all our lives. We all dream to someday do something with our lives. For this reason many people come to America to be better off than they were in their native countries. The American dream is the hope people have coming to America. They hope to be wealthy. They hope for no more struggling. The American dream is well and alive in this day and age and will always be because people will always have the hunger to prosper. The American dream cannot be reached without hope and without hope all is lost.
They say, “It’s not a straight answer. Everyone does it. It naturally comes.” (Morgan, 2012) Dreaming is part of our everyday life. It isn’t something that we have to think of in order for it to happen. It is something that is going to happen either we think about it or not. “We spend one-third of our lives dreaming”, says, (Dell’Amore, 2011). Sleeping is called REM. For adults REM is about every 90 minutes (1hr 30 min). The first cycle is short for 3 minutes but can increase to 55 minutes.” (Dell’Amore, 2011) “Dreams can happen during “Non-REM” too.” (Dell’Amore, 2011) She says that “REM sleep paralyses your muscles for temporary time. It protects our body from our dreams.” This means that some of our dreams can be very powerful and actually cause us to hurt ourselves. We might feel like what we are dreaming is actually real and we would want to act upon it. We can maybe hurt ourselves For example, we have all had that one dream where we feel like are falling and we jump off our beds or we dream that we are fighting against someone or something and we end up punching something that is reals.
For many, the American Dream has become a nightmare. The American Dream is the ideal lifestyle every American wants to live. The typical American Dream everyone wants to live up to is to be financially stable, successful, and to have a nice home with a family. Then again, not everyone has the same American Dream they want to achieve because many Americans have realized reality and know the typical American Dream is just a fantasy.. For everyone in order to achieve their American Dream there’s going to be many obstacles they’re going to have to face.
...and how he projects his voice through lyrics. It was genius for him to put out this song since he has many agreeable fans towards his work and for others to listen.
The answer undoubtedly depends upon one’s definition of the Dream, and there are many. which to choose from. John Winthrop envisioned a religious paradise in a The "City upon a Hill." Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of racial sex. equality.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, dream is defined by a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring involuntarily in a person’s mind during certain stages of sleep. Dreams have fascinated humans since the beginning of time. The recorded history of dream interpretation dates back to 3000-4000 B.C. with the Sumerians in Mesopotamia. They documented their dreams on clay tablets. People back then saw the dream world as an extension of reality, but that it was a more powerful realm. Furthermore, they believed that when they dream, their souls would leave their body during sleep and travel to the dream world.
In the novel, Waiting for the Barbarians by J.M Coetzee, the magistrate’s progressive, non-linear dreams are a parallel to his growing involvement with the barbarians and his growing distaste for the empire. The great psychoanalyst, Sigmund Freud said, “The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to a knowledge of the unconscious.” In every dream there is a hidden meaning and when the reader starts analyzing the magistrate’s dreams he reveals that he is oddly attracted to the barbarians and knows he should not get involved and it will be a trial to get close to them.
Dreams are series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. Dreams occur during a certain stage of sleep known as REM. Several different psychologists, including Freud and Hobson, have studied dreams. Psychologists have provided many theories as to what dreams are and the meanings behind them.
For thousands of years humans have experienced a phenomenon which we describe today as dreaming. It has puzzled and sparked interest to all whom experience it. For as long as people have been dreaming, there have been people trying to understand and interpret them. This research paper examines the causation and deeper meaning of dreams. It will compare and contrast the differentiating ideas on the subject by famous psychologists and also examine first-hand accounts from real individuals. The objective of paper is to shed some light on this complex and bizarre behavior.
