Caden Froehlich Mrs. McCray Honors English 10 3/4/2024. What Does it Mean to "Be Free"? Freedom is one of the most important things in a person's life, and it is the thing most often fought for. All of the protests, wars, and revolutions, whether they were bloody or not, have been executed in the hopes that the participants would become free from whatever issues they were experiencing. With that being said, freedom means that any person under its power has the ability to choose for themselves, have the ability to think for themselves, and not be discriminated against for any reason. Choice is not the only factor towards freedom, though. Thoughts dictate the reality. Everything that happens is influenced by thoughts and people do not want to do things that they do not agree with. At some point in everyone's life, they develop a sense of morality and start to come up with their own morals that they swear they'll never go against, so what if someone forced them to go against these morals? They probably would not like that and feel as if they are betraying themselves, even though someone else is making them do this. Thoughts also determine the relationships people have with other people, seeing as most people would probably only befriend like-minded individuals. To add to the last statement, everyone is comfortable with their opinions even if they do not sit right with another group and they do not feel any pressure to change them to agree with everyone, because let's face it, someone is always going to be in disagreement so people should just stick to what they believe in. It is because of people like that, that true freedom has started to become a possibility where nobody is taken at face value or belittled over the things they can't change.
