Caden Froehlich Mrs. McCray Honors English 10 3/4/2024. What Does it Mean to "Be Free"? Freedom is one of the most important things in a person's life, and it is the thing most often fought for. All of the protests, wars, and revolutions, whether they were bloody or not, have been executed in the hopes that the participants would become free from whatever issues they were experiencing. With that being said, freedom means that any person under its power has the ability to choose for themselves, have the ability to think for themselves, and not be discriminated against for any reason. Choice is one of the most important things in life, and that importance is only seen when it is lost. A lot of people do not like choice because of the possible …show more content…
Choice is not the only factor towards freedom, though. Thoughts dictate the reality. Everything that happens is influenced by thoughts and people do not want to do things that they do not agree with. At some point in everyone's life, they develop a sense of morality and start to come up with their own morals that they swear they'll never go against, so what if someone forced them to go against these morals? They probably would not like that and feel as if they are betraying themselves, even though someone else is making them do this. Thoughts also determine the relationships people have with other people, seeing as most people would probably only befriend like-minded individuals. To add to the last statement, everyone is comfortable with their opinions even if they do not sit right with another group and they do not feel any pressure to change them to agree with everyone, because let's face it, someone is always going to be in disagreement so people should just stick to what they believe in. There are some extremes though when it comes to people trying to change others' opinions, such as government entities, "And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his …show more content…
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood" (UN General Assembly art. 1). The adage of the adage. This quote is undeniably one of the most important things to understand about freedom. Years ago people were heavily discriminated against through means of slavery and limited rights, but fortunately, things of that nature have gone down. Any person has the right to do whatever they want and not be told no over their physicality or identity. Equality is the thing that the people of today have been non-stop fighting for. It is because of people like that, that true freedom has started to become a possibility where nobody is taken at face value or belittled over the things they can't change. Freedom is one of the most basic and simplest things in the world. In truth, freedom is one of the most complicated things because of all the different facets of it. Freedom in simple terms should allow people to think for themselves, choose for themselves, and not be discriminated against. After all this, though, the concept of freedom has taken a new form. Freedom is the ability to be human, to do whatever makes a
According to Dictionary.com freedom means “the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint.” Freedom. What does freedom mean to you? Even though freedom means the state of being uncontrolled by another, or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, I believe that freedom means being able to accomplish what you desire and when you desire it without anyone saying anything, by reason of the comparison and contrast of our society and the society in the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, the negation of the word freedom, and synonyms of the word freedom. I believe that you should accept the consequences of the actions you take when you have your “freedom” as well.
The strength of a state is often connected to its’ ability to gain wealth. That wealth can be supported or delayed by laws that govern the trade of goods and services between those states. The guideline is referred to as the Commerce Clause. The Commerce Clause is an established guideline from the United States Constitution. It outlines the details of the trade of goods and services. It is born from the Tenth amendment of the constitution. It outlines what can and cannot be done as it relates to trade and affairs within the state and defines who controls the power to regulate it. It is the major thing that allows states to maintain powers related to commerce. According to Miller (2012) the Commerce Clause is focused
God has given us as human beings free will. Although if we make choices based on our own free will we must be willing to take the responsibility for the effects that our decisions have on ourselves, on the people around us, and on society itself. Freedom, I believe, is the way in which people live or behave without others annoying or interfering in his or her affairs. People should benefit from freedom, equality and justice. Absolute freedom is sometimes very dangerous and may destroy the basic principles of the society. A lot of people believe that freedom means doing whatever you want, whenever you want.
What is freedom? Freedom is the ability for every individual to have complete control of his life, the ability to make his own decisions. From the moment an individual wakes up in the morning to the moment he lays back down to sleep in the evening, thousands, if not millions, of choices have been made. Some of these choices have had negative consequences, and some of these choices have had positive consequences, but regardless of the outcome, there remained the freedom of choice.
We have the right to any freedoms because of “The Declaration of Independence”, we can be who we want to be. Everyone is unique and has varying views on everything, independence is a widely accepted and preferred that has become necessary, but it doesn’t have to be like that all the time.
Freedom is automatically given from birth because everyone is created equal. This can be supported by three different texts: “I Have A Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr., “The Censors” by Luisa Valenzuela, and “The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses” by Bessie Head. People might think that freedom must be demanded, or fought for. But according to the texts, this is not true.
In conclusion, freedom is having power to inflict a positive change on the world. The ability to be yourself and not change for anyone. The right to choose who rules and who doesn’t rule. Having a chance to get out there and show the world what your all about and who you really are. These are all definitions of freedom and what it truly means to be

Freedom represents something greater than just the right to act however citizens choose it also stands for securing to everyone an equal opportunity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. According to society today, freedom means more than just free to do say and do anything you want. Taken literally, that approach would produce anarchy every man, woman, and child for himself or herself. Fortunately, none of us has to live that way. Freedom is the quality a person has with controls over his or her own life, and nobody can control them or tell that person what to do. Complete freedom is very hard to obtain in today’s society.
Many believe that freedom is being able to do and say whatever you'd like without consequences. In ways this may be true but, when we say or do things that are against rules or that challenge society we might find ourselves in trouble. But if we don't challenge society or anything else for that matter we find ourselves stuck without change. Leading to the idea that the true meaning of freedom is being able to speak up for what you believe in; Whether it results in punishment or not. If that's what you believe in then preach it all you want. Our government might have the authority to take away our freedom by locking us away or finding another form of punishment. We find that freedom is a recurring theme in our MyPerspective
Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. In America there is numerous of choices that someone may make on a daily basis. If someone were allowed to make their own choices and were being told what to do; then they would not be free. When someone is allowed to speak when they want to, and say what they want; such as their opinion or view of something. Being allowed to have a right to speak is one of the most important characteristics of being an American. Thinking and stating your opinion in any predicament it a strong part in being a citizen because people in the United States are known for being able to think in their own ways. Freedom can stretch too many things such as being able to do as they please, they are not forced into doing anything that someone may want. The citizens of the United States are not made to do anything that one may not want to do; like
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
Throughout history freedom has had many different meanings and definitions; based on race, gender, and ethnicity. According to the dictionary freedom means the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint (“freedom” def. 1). Freedom may seem like something given to everyone however it was something workers had to fight for. Not everyone believed that workers’ rights needed to be changed, which led to a long battle between workers, employers and the government. To the working class people freedom meant making higher wages, having regulated hours, workable conditions and the right to free speech.
Freedom is often spoken of in what can be referred to as a loose sense of the word. One country has more freedom than another; a twenty-one year old has more freedom than a fifteen year old. What exactly does this word mean? For different people it may mean different things, but there has to be an equilibrium that can be reached in order to determine the meaning of freedom itself. In one form, freedom can mean that a person has "exemption from an obligation."* If only the root (free) is looked at, it can be interpreted that one is "not under the control or power of another."*
The constitution of the United States of America gives me the right to freedom because I am a United States citizen. I consider "freedom" to be my right to express myself in any way I choose. Freedom is defined as "having liberty of action or thought, independent". "Self-governed or not controlled by an outside party" is another definition of freedom. Freedom has a different meaning to each individual thus making it hard to find a clear concise definition.
