Many books and novels contain the same plots, themes, and personalities. However, although stories may have their similarities, with contrasts, each book has a different tale. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is a perfect example of a supernatural story told with a twist. A story that is surprisingly similar is The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. These two books obviously have their differences. The plot of both are completely different. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children follows the story of Jacob whose world entirely shifts to peculiar when a family tragedy happens, which results in him on a island to solve the mysteries. The plot is similar in small but noticeable ways in both Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and The Lord of the Flies. All of the main characters are in some way seeking for help and answers. Jacob wants to know more about the stories he was told. The boys on the island want to know if they are safe and who is in charge. The themes are alike as well. Both sharing the themes of identity, isolation, courage, and home. Identity is seen by Jacobs trip to find more about his family, and the crisis the boys have taking on adult roles. Isolation is seen by Jacob on a rather unpopulated island, and the boys are entirely alone in The Lord of the Flies. Courage is shown by both the main characters Jacob in Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and Ralph in The Lord of the Flies. Home is the last theme and is overall what they truly want. Lastly, some of the characters shared traits and for one the majority of their personality. Jacob and Ralph are both cautious, intelligent, well spoken, and logical. Which makes the their reactions very similar in the two different
