31 The death of the Mandan and their chief Four Bears demonstrated that the Lewis and Clark was nothing more than an invasion of Indian homelands in the western hemisphere. 32 The actions that occurred were not deliberate by Lewis and Clark, however, the fact that most of the tribes in which the two visited became extinct adds to the idea that the two men should not be seen as celebrated explorers, but they should be seen as victors. Thus, the Lewis and Clark expedition focused mainly on the interactions with Native Americans, as they tried to peacefully establish a relationship with the Native tribes and change Native culture to reflect more American principles in efforts to take control of the Native’s lands, but ultimately led to the downfall of these Native tribes as a whole in the end. By examining Jefferson’s commands to Lewis and Clark, and his documented preconceptions about the native tribes in the west, it is understood that Jefferson promoted the expedition that ultimately ended the existence of the native tribes in the west.

But the scouts had also noted that there were only two boats that could transport Benedict and his soldiers, therefore only a hundred or so men actually particapted in the capturing of Fort Ticonderoga (History Ticonderoga). Benedict still wanted to suprise the soldiers, so they attacked Ticonderoga's south gate, where only one sentry was stationed. Benedict damanded their surround once they had rose from their sleep. The British troops complied and the fort was won with no casualties and not a single shot fired (CIA). With the fort under the patriots control, the army gained a hundred cannons that the army despreately needed (fourty-three of which were transported and used by General Knox against the British at Boston) and a passage from New York into Canada( History Ticonderoga)which led Benedict to his next military excersion.
