Neil Armstrong
July 20th, 1969. This day will always be remembered as the day Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. Armstrong along with another astronaut were able to walk and take samples on the moon to bring back to United States to study. You might wonder why Neil Armstrong was chosen along with the other two men to be sent to the moon. Well, as I was researching Armstrong I learned about his life. In my paper I will be explaining on why he was sent to the moon while also talking about the life he lived.
To start off, Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, August 5th, 1930. (google.com) He was the eldest of his two other siblings. At the age of six he started taking an interest in airplanes after he was able to ride in an airplane for the first time. At only the age of fourteen he started taking flying lessons. (notablebiographies.com) On his sixteenth birthday he was able to earn his pilots license. Even though he was only 16 he built his very own wind tunnel. A wind tunnel is a tunnel where air is forced at speeds that are controlled to observe the effect of the winds flow. Even at this young age Neil was showing signs of interests in the careers of aeronautics, construction, and navigation of aircrafts. He also did experiments with the planes models he made. (notablebiographies.com) At sixteen years old the potential for becoming an astronaut was already showing.
In addition to Neil's family, he had two other siblings. He was the oldest of the three children. His sibling's names were Dean and June Armstrong. Stephen Armstrong and Viola Armstrong were the parents of these three children. (google.com) As Neil Armstrong got older he married a wom...

... didn’t know before. Such as how he got sent to the moon and what life he lived before and after the Apollo 11 mission. What I know for sure now is that his legacy will live on and Neil Armstrong will never be forgotten.

"First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth."- John F. Kennedy. On a warm July night in 1969, this dream came true. Millions of people sat captivated in front of their TVs witnessing one of the most monumental events in history, Neil Armstrong walking gracefully on the moon. This event in US history changed the way we look at space forever. Political issues such as the Vietnam War and foreign affairs were on the forefront of American's minds. Thousands of people came peacefully together in a historical concert event called Woodstock. Children were introduced to a place called "Sesame Street" and Heavy Metal meant more than just an old car. The year 1969 impacted American's lives today in politics, science, sports, art, entertainment and daily living.
On July 16, 1969 the space ship Apollo 11 left from Kennedy Space Center en route to the moon. The crew consisted of Neil A. Armstrong, the commander; Edwin E. Aldrin, the jr. lunar module pilot; and Michael Collins, the commander module pilot...
Lindbergh was born on February 4, 1902 and spent most of his childhood in Little Falls, Minnesota. He was a son of an attorney and congressman. His character traits for which he was known for the rest of his life were being reserved and withdrawn. In 1912, his mother took him to an air race, he loved it so much he decided that’s what he wanted to do. In April of 1922 he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and enrolled in a local flight school. Shortly after he joined, the school shut down.
Though there is no doubt that George and William were the most well known and famous of the Clark children, they were not the only Clark children. Blank and Blank gave birth to 10 Clark Children. George and William had four other brothers and four sisters. George was the older of the two and was the second oldest brother(Carstens). William on the other hand was the second youngest of the children. They were both born around the Virginia area(Buckley)....More Home Info
Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Soon after his birth, his father, William Armstrong, left. With his father leaving, Louis’ mother, Maryann, decided it would be best if he went to go live with his grandmother, Josephine. While Armstrong was living with his grandmother,
Louis Armstrong was born in August of 1901 to Mary and William Armstrong. Armstrong’s father abandoned the family after Louis’s birth. Then Louis, his mother and sister lived in poverty. His first musical experience came when he sang with a group of boys on the streets in order to earn money. In 1912, Louis fired blanks from a pistol in a New Years Eve celebration and got arrested by a police officer and sent to the Colored Waifs’ Home for Boys. At the Colored Waifs’ Home for Boys, Louis received his first formal training in music from the band director there and soon turned into a leader in the band. When he got released from the home for boys, he supported his family by shoveling coal. (Louis Armstrong)
To begin, Louis Armstrong was born in 1901 in the worst part of New Orleans, the “Battlefield” in black Storyville (Harker, 2005, p. 68). Right from the get-go, life wasn’t easy for Armstrong. His father left shortly after he was born, and his mother worked
Louis Armstrong was born August 4th, 1901 in New Orleans. He was born into a poor family and was the grandson of slaves. His father abandoned the family when Louis was an infant. His mother later left Louis and his younger sister and left them with Louis’ grandmother. At age 5, he moved back in with his mother, her relatives and a parade of “stepfathers”. He went to school at Fisk School for Boys. At this school is where he most likely had exposure to music. He sold many items for money but the money he got wasn’t enough to keep his mother away from prostitution. He was usually in the dance halls near home, where he learned everything from licentious dancing to the quadrille. He hauled coal to Storyville for extra money. He would listen to the bands playing in the brothels and dance halls.
Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother, Mary Albert was a 15 or 16 year old prostitute. He lived with his mother, whom he called Mayann, and his younger sister, Beatrice, whom he called Mama Lucy, and his grandmother. His Father, William Armstrong, seldom visited little Louis.
musicians from his era, he had his roots in New Orleans, Louisiana. Armstrong is widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time.
“On July 16, 1969 the world watched in anticipation as three men were hurtled skyward in a rocket bound for the moon.” (news.nationalgeographic.com). This was the Apollo 11 spacecraft, the first successful manned mission to the moon. This mission was the product of the space race (race to see who would go into outer space first, against the Soviet Union). This goal was set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961 and he promised that we would be the first to step on the moon by the end of the decade. The Apollo 11 mission is often cited as the greatest achievement in human history. Neil Armstrong was the first person to ever land on the moon. Born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, he graduated from college in 1955 and joined the NASA team. In 1962, he became the first civilian to enter into an astronaut training program. In 1969, Armstrong headed the Apollo 11 mission, becoing the first human being to set foot on the moon. Other astronauts the accompanied Armstrong on this mission were Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., and Michael Collins. In 1971, Armstrong became a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
