In the American political history, Abortion has been a very passionate topic with many difference of opinions and arguments that have been heard from both sides. Abortion is yet politically debated in the United States even though the Supreme Court ruled that abortion is a woman’s fundamental right in 1973. Instead of allowing the would be mothers, who have to go through the physical changes, to decide for their bodies, these politicians feel that they are allowed to barge into the others people’s lives and make decisions on their behalf. In her speech she is very clear that she is strongly against the government interference in women’s healthcare because these politicians are treating women, “as though they are not capable of making their own medical decisions” (Pg 39). Furthermore, Davis in her speech makes strong points such as reasoning how the 20-week abortion ban rule would, “interfere with a women’s healthcare decision before she and her doctor may have important health information about her own health and the health of pregnancy” (pg. 39). There are many pregnancy complications that are found much later than 20 weeks such as preeclampsia that endangers the life of the mother. Why can’t the politicians just allow the mothers to decide for themselves whether they want to risk their lives or not? Many may say its selfish of the mothers to think this way but what if she already has another child that needs her too. There are many circumstances in life such as financial problems or health problems that make women go through abortion and the society should be understanding towards the women’s decision. Moreover, Davis’s speech not only delivers women’s right to choose but also the importance of preventing unwanted pregnancies and helping women in need of family planning services. Banning abortion would play a major role in increasing amount of unwanted babies and devastating consequences on women’s health. Aborting a child is not easy for women as the politician’s depict. Sometimes it’s just the circumstances that makes people take hasty and rash decisions in their lives. If the pro-life supporters have different beliefs on abortion, then they should simply not get an abortion rather than imposing their views on others. Instead of wasting money on anti-abortion campaigns, politicians should invest their money into programs that educate on preventing unwanted pregnancy. Everyone in this world should have a right to live the life they imagined and do whatever they feel is best for the life. The society or the government are in no place to take that right away from
