What would you do if you were in a school shooting? Students at schools fear the worst after what happened in Florida. We should not enact more gun control laws as it will probably make it worse and people will find ways around the laws. Gun control laws should not be enacted, because shootings would most likely still occur even if enact more laws, and people have ways of obtaining more weapons, and the crime rate would still exist and may even gradually increase.
We should not enact more gun control laws because shootings would most likely still occur. If we enact more laws criminals would still have ways of shooting up schools. Laws won't affect the choices people decide to make. For example, say we create more laws enforcing gun control, but criminals won't be affected by the laws we enact. The 2nd Amendment, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”, has been enforced since 1789. More gun control laws will do little to nothing to help keep shooting from happening. Weapons provide protection for you, the second amendment enforces this, so due to that the government should not enact more laws as it will probably affect the second amendment negatively.

For example, criminals use the black market to buy weapons. Another way people can obtain weapons is from the street or from across the border. Even if the government enacts more gun laws, people will still use the streets, black market, or even from across the border. Still, it will prevent or make it harder to obtain weapons legally, but it will take awhile to enforce the laws they enact. But there is a great chance that even more people will obtain weapons illegally if they enact more laws. Criminals will continue to get weapons illegally whether we enact more laws or
Everyone knows that parents’ first worry is the safety of their children. With the increase of violence in schools, parents have started to wonder if their children are really safe in the school setting. Shootings like Sandy Hook and Columbine left parents, administrators, and educators feeling the need to be proactive towards children’s safety. Reacting to situations like these is not good enough when children’s lives are on the line. Administration has started to brainstorm different ways to help insure the protection of their students. The idea of having teachers carry concealed weapons has been on the front burner for quite some time. As a result of this extreme idea, insurance companies have started to increase or even cancel policies with schools that have armed teachers because of the high risk they are putting themselves at. Parents and administrators also worry about the idea of children getting their hands on one of the teachers’ weapons and injuring themselves or other students. Because this idea seems quite extreme, I believe there are other alternatives that are less dramatic and more positively out looked, such as having armed security guards in schools.
We are entitled to the right to bear arms and taking that right away would be unconstitutional. Guns are not the cause for all the violence and crimes that have happened over the years. They do not increase the death rates. Children are more likely to die in a car or swimming pool accident then gun related deaths (VerBruggen). The weapons are needed for protection and hunting, owning a gun is not unconstitutional Taking the Second Amendment away or changing it would be unconstitutional and Un American, It is like any other right. This right is one of the reasons why we are the land of the free and home of the brave. “Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both” - Benjamin Franklin
In conclusion, enabling stricter gun control laws will help to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, criminals, and children and teens. With these laws put into place there will be more assurance of the safety of American citizens. It is not necessary to strip citizens of their right to own a gun, but we should be able to make it harder to get guns. If you are someone with a clear record and using a gun for recreation use, you will have no trouble obtaining a gun. In the long run increase the laws on gun control hurts nobody. Despite historic events where governments seized firearms and killed millions of citizens, today we have a different problem, which is making sure guns are in the right hands.
Right now the government has limited firearm purchasing only to people who pass certain steps. Gun control has risen as a controversial subject in the United States today. Many say gun control or banning of all firearms will help protect and make our country a better place. Reasons many are wanting to ban firearms are that the 2nd amendment is out dated and unjustified in this date and time. Writer Eugene Robinson states that “farmers wrote of “arms,” thinking about muskets and single shot pistols. They could not have foreseen modern rifles or high-capacity magazines.” Many agree with Mr. Robinson saying that back when the constitution was written they couldn’t have understood what was going to come in the future. Citizens also believe people have no reason to fight against intruders that come in their home that’s what the authorities are for. If people what to defend themselves why waste the money and time on having police? In this day and age why have weapons why not cut out all firearms and just be one happy country, it’s that simple, but is it really that simple? (“Assault Weapons Must Be Banned in
...laws protect the society. They need to understand that bans and laws work and that they need to be enforced more strictly so the people of the nation can feel safe and protected. The nation has brought many new ideas to try to solve the issue on illegal gun selling and gun traffickers. They have provided with legislation laws on gun control, the declining of allowing fully-automatic weapons to be legal in this country to keep all citizens safe. All of the proposals that legislation has introduced do a great job in monitoring the selling and purchasing of weapons that should not be bought and sold. If the country wants us to be safe and protected by our government, they need to know that bans and laws on assault weapon works and saves lives of the American people and that there needs to be cooperation with them so the bans and laws can stay strict and strong.
From 1980’s till now, there are has been many school shootings. Many researchers have made many hypotheses as to why these occur. The most tragic shooting took place in Sandy Hook Elementary. 2. I believe that we should prevent shootings from happening in schools because schools are meant to be a safe education environment for students and faculty. There are many ways that school shootings can be prevented and the two most important ones are hiring more school security officers and having counselors help out troubled kids.
“States that passed ‘shall-issue’ laws between 1977 and 2010 had a 2% or more increase in the murder rate, and at least 9% increases in rates of rapes, aggravated assault, robbery, auto theft, burglary and larceny…,” (Source 5). Although guns possibly could promote more crime if they are allowed to be publicly transported, most criminals do not buy weapons legally, which requires a background check of the buyer before the dealer can sell the gun. Smart culprits usually buy guns illegally or know as the “black market”, which cannot be prevented by any constitutional law. Buying guns illegally is just as easy as buying illegal drugs, therefore, tightening gun laws will not affect the crime rate in the
School shootings have occurred countless amount of time in the 21st century and will continue to occur. This is a crime that has been taken lightly for so many years and just now has been taken seriously. At first they were on awareness but not taken as serious as they are now. Yes they would try to be prevented but now almost every school in America is trying everything to not let one happen in their school. The drastic measures that schools have gone through has changed the way kids go to school and how teachers do their jobs. Schools have changed rules and regulations just so that the children will be safe and it still does not assure their safety but the laws passed and things done have prevented and helped.
This issue is a rising debate in our nation, which seems to go either way. Stricter enforcement is necessary to help rising problems in our nation today. It is essential that background checks are enforced more and to make sure military weapons be left to the military; there’s no need for people to have automatic guns located within their household. However, shotguns and hand guns should be left to Americans. The second amendment protects the American public’s right to bear arms. If something isn’t decided soon, then people will see rising problems in the future.
But only 27 percent of the criminals who are in prison for crimes involving guns have obtained them legally (Henderson 23). If criminals can find guns illegally now, how is more gun control going to stop them from getting them later? Groups against gun control, the most dominant being the NRA (National Rifle Association), are afraid gun control is the first step in outlawing guns. Though the government is trying to help, they aren 't solving any of the problems, they are just making it harder for the average citizen to obtain a
Laws have been proposed to try to help this issue, like Bill H.R 4269. Some of the laws are harmful and should not be passed. The bill proposed by Representative David Cicilline bill H.R. 4269. It puts a ban to many firearms and only excludes a certain few. Also the bill would criminalize the sale or transfer of many firearms already in circulation. That would mean criminals would have a greater access to guns
The Second Amendment states “right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Nevertheless, I believe Guns should be used only by police and in the military in order to prevent guns of being in the wrong hands. Americans currently believe that regulating the armed citizenry is a new development but it is a process that has been trying to develop since 1791. Laws were designed to ensure that armed citizens
Something to also consider is although we have many gun laws, not all are enforced. For instance, the Brady Bill gets easily nullified. This bill enforces a waiting period and a background check to buy a firearm. One example of the bill being nullified is, some states nearly nullify the federal law by removing individuals from the NCIS list, which is a list that prohibits certain people from buying weapons if they have completed their sentence. Another way the law is nullified, is buying a firearm through an unregulated forum. Through an unregulated forum a person, like Adam Lanza, is able to avoid background checks, waiting periods, and other reasons. (Record, and Gostin 568)
Punishing law abiding citizens by passing restrictive gun law is wrong. Guns are not the cause of this country’s crime problem. Criminals are. Firearms can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Will more stringent gun control laws create less crime?
Guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self defense if we didn't have these guns for self defense so many other people would be killed and injured from other people. I believe laws on guns are fine just like they are. Felons cannot have guns and it is illegal to sell guns to felons. People that can't own guns is felons that were in prison for more than one year, illegal drug users, people who have been committed to mental institutions, people that have escaped from prison and people who have domestic violence restraining orders. If they made sure these people never got a hold of a gun than we would not have problems of people killing people and gun violence.
