Air Pollution

Air pollution happens when there are unwanted chemicals such as dust, excessive gasses, smoke in the atmosphere. When the amount of pollution is high, these matters effects the natural balance and cannot be removed completely.
Substances that causes pollution is called pollutants.

There are 2 types of pollutants
• Primary pollutants
• Secondary pollutants

Primary pollutants
• Gasses and particles that are pumped into the air to make it unclean. Such as carbon monoxide from car exhaust.

Secondary pollutants
• These pollutants are formed from chemical reactions. Primary pollutants come in contact with other primary pollutants.

What Causes air pollution?
These elements are poisonous and are hard to clean from the environment because it is non-biodegradable.
• Oil forms a thick layer on the water and does not dissolve. Photosynthesis may not occur in water plats as they are not receiving enough light.

Effects of water pollution

Human
Contaminated dirty water can make people sick. Drinking dirty water introduces harmful bacteria into your body there will be cases of cholera and other diseases especially in poor countries. Eating poisonous seafood might lead to getting hepatitis.

Environment
Death of marine animals. Too much rubbish on and in the ocean will suffocate the fish.
Sewage- Bacteria in the water will use oxygen to break down the sewage. If there is too much sewage there will be no oxygen left for the fish.
Acid rain and oil spills can destroy the fish habitat.

How to prevent water pollution?
• Never throw rubbish into the river or anywhere. Throw it into a rubbish bin.
• Save water by taking shorter showers.
• Do not overuse the amount of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, instead use an organic fertiliser.
