The Mexican-American war took place in early 1846. The battles took place between the Rio Grande and The Nueces River. The U.S. crossed the Mexican border which caused the Mexican government to think that the Americans were attacking them so the Mexican Government sent troops to defend the border. In the Mexican Pro-Newspaper it specifically states that “The Americans have invaded Mexican land”. On maps of Mexico at the time, it shows that the American troops crossed the border onto Mexican land. The only reason why the Mexican troops attacked the Americans is because the Mexican government saw that American soldiers were crossing the border onto mexican land so they sent Mexican troops to go defend their land. This evidence shows that the U.S. was not justified in going to war with Mexico because not only did they cross the border onto Mexican land without the Mexican government's permission, they also lied about Mexican troops randomly ambushing American soldiers on American
land. The second reason why the Mexican War was not justified was because Mexico was only fighting to keep Texas as a part of their land. After President James Polk's war message to congress, congress replied with: we were already going to declare war with Mexico, which means that they were already declaring war with Mexico without Mexico’s response to declaring war. This evidence shows that the U.S. was not justified in going to war with Mexico because, The only reason why Mexico gave them war and kept fighting till the end was because they wanted to keep Texas as part of their land because they didn't have as much land as the U.S. did. The third reason the Mexican war was not justified was because It was inadmissible for both legal and security reasons. According to the author of document c, a mexican force attacked Zachary Taylor’s troops when they arrived at the Rio Grande because, in the eyes of the Mexican Government, the mobilization of the U.S. army was an outright attack on Mexico. This evidence shows the U.S. was not justified in going to war with Mexico because, The U.S. army was attacking Mexico already so, that had started a battle leading to the Mexican-American war. The last reason why the Mexican war was not justified was because the U.S. said that the Mexican government was not even responsible enough to control their own country then why should they be able to control texas, and Mexico replied with: At least we are smart enough to know when we should illegalize slave. Also this shows that because of this conversation Americans were thinking that shouldn't the government illegalize slavery already and this led to the Civil war (fun fact) not really. This evidence shows that the U.S. had no reason to go into war with Mexico because, the mexican government could handle their own country and the U.S. does not have to interfere with that. The U.S. was not justified in going to war with Mexico because, The U.S. invaded their land, took Texas away from them, and lied about saying that Mexico was on their land. All of my evidence shows that Mexico was not the intruders and that the American troops were the intruders on Mexico's land.

President Polk sent General Zachary Taylor to Nueces River vs. Rio Grande to poke the Mexicans to shoot and they did. The Mexicans have shed “American blood upon American soil.” The United States wanted war with Mexico now they have a reason to declare war ( History.com
Still the United States was still justified in going to war with Mexico. Mexico thought that they were at Texas first and that, that meant that they had the right to call the land theirs but Americans counteracted that they were positive that Texas was theirs and God even tells them that it is destiny to have Texas so why doesn’t Mexico just go right ahead and give Texas to them so they wouldn’t have to lose so many lives. the land and yet it had such a weak economy and could use the money
One reason that the Mexican War was not justified was because the Americans invaded Mexican land and went beyond approved borders. “The congress of Texas, by its act of December 9, 1836, had declared the Rio de Norte to be the boundary. ” This quote shows that there were set boundaries and Americans made up their own without Mexico’s permission. “Polk sent John Slidell to Mexico City to try

United States started the war with Mexico due to its imperial ambitions and need for territorial expansion. America was modernizing itself and getting ready to engage in competition with Europe. Capitalism and modernization fueled the competition for resources to feed the industries, and the markets to sell the manufactured goods. A country in this world was either an exploiter or the exploited by that order of things. Being neither one of those was the hardest to achieve. Americans decided to be exploiters; therefore, they needed to engage in competition with Europe, a group of empires dominating the world. To successfully compete with Europe, America needed the natural resources and advantage over trading routes Asia to engage profitable in business with Asian territories. Another reason Americans engaged in war with Mexico was to avoid domestic instability and chaos that would slow down its imperial progress. Issues of economic crisis and slavery were vital to solve. The U.S needed to justify their actions; thus, they put the blame on Mexico for starting the war. The War with Mexico was a significant event since it was the largest U.S military expansion for the reasons of modernization covered up as an act of self-defense.

The Mexican-American war determined the destiny of the United States of America, it determined whether or not it would become a world power and it established the size of the United States of America. Perhaps the war was inevitable due to the idea of Manifest Destiny - Americans thought they had the divine right to extend their territory. The Mexican-American War started mainly because of the annexation of the Republic of Texas (established in 1836 after breaking away from Mexico). The United States and Mexico still had conflicts on what the borders of Texas was, the United States claimed that the Texas border with Mexico was the Rio Grande, but the Mexicans said that it was the Nueces River, so the land in between were disputed and claimed by both the United States and Mexico. Hostilities started on April 24th, 1846, 2000 Mexican cavalry crossed the Rio Grande and attacked an American troop of 63 men.

When is it right to take a stand? When you believe in it? But what if you were wrong? The purpose for what you stood for was unreasonable, unjust. What then do you make of your actions? In 1836, Texas became tired of Mexico’s rule, so her citizens fought against Mexico for their independence. Texas finally declared herself independant after an army of Texan soldiers ambushed the Mexican army, killing more than half of them and forcing General Santa Anna to sign a treaty for Texas’ independence from Mexico. 10 years later, Texas was annexed into the United States of America. However, Mexico was not in favor of this, and eventually a war broke out between the two nations. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because Texas had no right to rebel, Polk instigated the fight, and the war was fought to extend slavery.
