Joey is the main character in the story War Horse. He is a young horse, who shows many different character traits throughout the story, including some such as loyalty, bravery, and compassion. Raised by a young boy, Albert Narcott, before he is sold to the army to be used during the war. He has to deal with being separated from his ‘human’ and the stress of war. Joey must face rigorous training, and terrifying battles where he deals with loss and gunfire.

He charged through a field, knowing that he could be shot down at any moment. He even galloped through a ‘no-man’s land’ littered with bodies, bombs, and barbed wire, all for the sake of the war. He showed pure bravery throughout the novel, no matter how dire or dangerous the situation may have been.
Compassion is another important character trait that Joey showed in the story. He cared deeply for all of his friends, including Top Thorn, Albert, and his first rider in the war, Captain James Nicholas. He loved each one of them deeply, and they all meant a lot to him. The loss of them all affected Joey deeply, driving him throughout the main plot of the book. The loss of his best friend throughout the story, Top Thorn, pushed Joey to keep going and keep fighting, to stay alive and find Albert. The loss is what kept Joey going, when he was nearing the end of his strength.
Overall, Joey was a very well written character, who had many traits not mentioned above. He is a brave, loyal, and compassionate character who is driven by his love and loyalty to his friends and family. He had many smaller traits, and many other traits that shape both the character and the story to what it is. Without Joey’s, he may have given up. Without his bravery, he may not have made it. And without his compassion, he may have not kept going when he wanted to give

Josh’s father was a proud man, and once the Depression hit, all of his pride was ripped away from him. Stefan stated quite often, He pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, then suddenly, his bootstraps, his thriftiness, and his industry were all pulled away from beneath

Joey’s social relationships have also been impacted by his behavior. He has experienced social rejection and even social isolation. The other students call him Zippy due to his hyperactivity. When moved to the special education classroom, Joey befriends a boy named Harold and meets another friend, Charlie, when sent to the special education center. Making new friends with others that also have disabilities gave them something in common.
...inks he is more important than anything else and will not even think about going out of his way to do anything nice for anyone or anything. Both Johnny and Dally’s similarities and differences balance each other out.
The Costello brothers relationship is filled with compassion and warmth. According to the text, “You need a ride home?” “Nah, I’ll catch a ride with Mike.” Page 46. This quote shows that both Mike and Joey love each other because Mike is willing to take Joey Home and Joey enjoys spending time with Mike, Which shows compassion from each brother to each

...hermore, going to war was an act of cowardice. He had to put aside his morals and principles and fight a war he did not believe in.
He describes that his sister, Nicole, helped him during his years at high school. Joey claims that she drove him and even escorted him to his first class. However, Graceffa had his downs of high school. He took note of all the cliques in school, but he felt like he still didn’t fit in. Graceffa constantly got picked on. Sometimes, he was picked on because of his hairstyle, and other times it was because his clothes smelled like smoke. That wasn’t all for Graceffa, though. He got question if he was gay a lot, since he acted rather feminine. At the time, Joey didn’t realize that he was, but his sister saved him from feeling left out. Nicole allowed Joey to sit with her and her friends at lunch, so he felt more comfortable around them. Overall, high school was quite the roller-coaster for
He sometimes went back and thought about if this was really all worth it. If it was worth all the bloodshed and tears. He used to tell people it was, he used to tell his children that they’ll bleed and fight for them, though that was all they seemed to do. They would come back from missions with
