Although, there are many books about the bombing of Pearl Harbor; in my class we were required to read Day of Infamy by Walter Lord. Walter Lord was a well-known publisher in his time. Not only did he write the book Day of Infamy but he also wrote A Night to Remember and Life. One of his best book turned out to be the Day of Infamy it was one of his best seller. In his book A Night to Remember he writes about people’s emotions, thoughts, and actions during the sinking of the titanic. Most of all of Walter Lord’s novel was about tragic historical events; such as A Time to Stand, The Past That Would Not Die, and A Night to Remember. I found a quote about his view of his main characters in this novel which states ‘The novel does not only have one main character, but rather all characters hold the same importance in the story”. Knowing this gives me an understanding that Walter Lord doesn’t care about his characters but cares more so about the event going on. I’m not saying that the character in his novels aren’t important but that just isn’t his main focus. He focuses more so on the minute by minute of what is going on during this event. I know that it might seem cliché a book with pictures in it but it’s not. Having pictures in the book helps me to set the mood of the book. This includes the setting, the characters and the damages that were created because of the bomb. A negative thing I’ve noticed about this book is that the word choice the author uses. It takes a while for him to get to the good parts of the book, which is the actual bombing. But really that is any book; so there are really no negative things that I can say about this book.
