Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. He Co- founded, Walt Disney Productions with his brother Roy Disney. Known as one of the world’s greatest innovators and dreamer, whose leadership and creativity surpasses most. In pursuit of his dreams, Walt Disney achieved an exemplary reputation that is referenced in many businesses throughout the world. The use of exceptional leadership skills and applied behavior of the five discovery skills, demonstrates the three levels of thinking (global, personal, and organizational) while cultivating an organizational culture to be more innovative. The combination of these skills and behaviors lead to the creation one of the world’s greatest brands, Disney, offering a multitude of products
The abilities of leading people, strategic planning, managing change, resourcefulness, doing whatever it takes, inspiring commitment, being a quick learner, decisiveness, building and mending relationships and composer are repeatedly shown throughout the development and growth of Walt Disney Co. For instance, Walt Disney said, “I execute my vision to make those dreams come true,” He would place all of his focus, time, energy, resources and talent to making sure his dream became a true reality (Pahl, 2015). This speaks to his “do whatever it takes” and “resourcefulness” leadership skills. Furthermore, when he had a vision for an animated film, Walt would pull all the staff together at his studio to act out the scenes for the movie, bringing the film to life from its pages. That action would light a path of creativity and open up the minds of his team to new possibilities, allowing them to be free and innovative. Walt Disney’s ability to lead people in a creative direction and inspiring commitment amongst his staff proves that he mastered true leadership
He, for instance, used associational insights to link animation with the concept of full-length movies, and putting theme rides into amusement parks (Dyer, Gregersen, & Christensen, 2011). Utilizing the skill of observation, while sitting on a bench, at an amusement park, watching his daughters play, Walt Disney noticed how tattered and dirty the amusement park was. He also noticed people’s reactions to different rides, and observed how the parents of the children, had nothing to do and were anxious to go home, while their children were still having fun, and playing “Walt Disney’s” (2016). It was after observing these things that Walt began to question the status quo of amusement parks, why must they be dirty and run-down, why is there nothing to do for the parents who have to come along with their children, and what would happen if I created an amusement park that would be the
