Recommended: Technology advances in ww2

In WWII we were flying things like the Mustang and the Lightning. Now we have much more advanced planes like the Lightning II and the Raptor. Since WWII the US has rapidly advanced the technology, weapons, and engine systems in their military fighter aircraft. As technology advanced, airplanes got better equipment. In the 1940s pilots would fly around with weak radars and would struggle to see what was going on around them. As time went on, we improved are radars and other instruments, like the artificial horizon and compass. We began to put Gyroscopic instruments in planes cockpits as well to keep the accurate while pulling more Gs. All of these countries fought over air superiority. Air superiority is the position in which the air force has control over all of the air warfare and air power of the opposing forces. Germany began with air superiority but they lost it when Britain defeated them at the Battle of Britain.
