Volunteer Experience/Summary
SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) is a nonprofit organization that strives to increase violence awareness among youth by providing education and community programs. I volunteered at a local chapter in my community at Stonybrook Middle School. SAVE chapters are established and operated by students and volunteers. The organization spreads positive messages of nonviolence by focusing on crime prevention, conflict management, and service projects. The organization is mostly school based and strives to teach students the importance of handling and reducing violence. Before volunteering, I did not think that children of that age are aware of how violence has increased over time. From observing the students in their activities, many of them were very knowledgeable about currents and even had great questions. Many of them were passionate about learning about the dangers versus how they are when being lectured to about math, science, or English etc. Although my work as a volunteer was very minimal, I still felt an impact from witnessing young children engaged in working towards a better future for themselves and social welfare of their communities. SAVE represents a response to non-economic motives. The organization fundraises to support the experiences and programs specifically for the children. The people of the organization genuinely care about the well-being of each student. SAVE strives to increase awareness of violence so that each student can feel more safe and know what to do when faced with violence activities. I could tell that the staff of the organization, whether being paid or not, honestly had an emotional attachment to the social welfare of the
