My Volunteering Journey

Throughout my high school career, I have been through many different activities, in and out of school. An activity outside of school in which I have been a part of was, having the opportunity to volunteer at the Cedar Bluff Branch public library. When I volunteered at the library, I had a leadership role for the first time of my life. My responsibility as a leader was making sure the books were straightened and nothing was out of order. Volunteering was a great experience for me, since it allowed me to become who I am today.
Primarily, volunteering aided me in intellectually developing myself. For instance, it has caused me to become more independent. After, having to be in charge of a group of people, I felt like I could do everything I

wanted on my own. Another measure, in which volunteering intellectually developed me was, in improving my English proficiency level; for instance, my vocabulary and reading skills have advanced, due to spending the bulk of my time reading and comprehending, the books I was offered from volunteering.
Furthermore, volunteering has helped me personally develop myself, before volunteering I constantly had doubts in choosing my decisions; however, now I have confidence in myself. Also, my behavior with people has changed, at first I did not relish meeting new people and was a bit shy of talking to them. However, now I enjoy meeting and talking to people I see. In additional, I have met many people in the library who are now a part of my friends.
Tertiary, volunteering assisted me in my own growth; for example, it taught me how to manage my time. I became able to excel in my school work and be a part of extracurricular activities while doing activities out of school. Before Volunteering I did not have time to do any time of activity out of school, I was just focused on maintaining a high grade point average in school. However, now school work and having some sort of activity outside of school are both significant to me. From learning to manage my time, I was able to come up with more time, in which I used to figure what I want to do with my future. After, doing many research in the library, I chose civil engineering as my career interest. Another manner, in which volunteering has assisted me in my own growth, was by ameliorating my reputation; for example, now I can list volunteering at the library on any of my applications, showing that I have given back to the community. Also, the volunteering hours could be useful the for my after school clubs.
To conclude, volunteering at the library was a great experience for me. Because it guided me to personally develop myself, making me less dependent on others. In additional, the library has taught me how to use my time wisely. Lastly, the library has helped me become more intelligent, by giving me the opportunity to read many of its books, improving my English proficiency levels. Overall, Without volunteering at the library I would not be who I am today. Also, I would not have as many opportunities open for me now.
