Cultivation of Grapes
The process involved in the cultivation, production and science of Grapes is called Viticulture. Grape cultivations one of the oldest cultivation in mankind after grains, that dates back to 7000 years during the Neolithic period. Viticulture originated from the Mediterranean region & spread across Middle East & Asia & gradually to the world. It’s in the records that the 1st grape harvest occurred 5400 B.C in region where present day Georgia & Armenia countries are called. Earlier it was practiced by the Greeks; Romans & Babylonians to the Egyptians, in these regions people have derived wine out of grapes.
Wine was a royal drink that kings use to drink, it was extracted from Vineyards. One of the oldest-known winery was discovered in the "Areni-1" cave in “Vayots Dzor”, Armenia. Since then wine was flourished all across the world. From a local consumption Wine became an International trading commodity. The older the wine the costlier it sells. Most of the wines are stored in wooden barrels, as it enhances the taste and colour of the wine.

The Grapes is a dysfunctional family who is living in the underprivileged rural area. The household consists of mother, Bonnie Grapes, who is a 54 year old jobless widow; Amy Grapes, the 34 year old eldest daughter among children, who is also still unemployed; Gilbert Grapes, the 24 year old eldest son who works at a nearby grocery shop; Arnie Grape, the younger brother of Gilbert Grapes who is autistic; and Ellen Grape, the youngest child, who is 16 years old and works at an ice-cream parlor. The two members of the family are no longer living with it including Larry Grapes who has left the family and is doing the job of a flight attendant, and Albert Grapes, who is the deceased father of the children; he committed suicide 14 years earlier.
The movie utilized for this assignment was What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. This movie explored the life of the Grape family consisting of Gilbert, Ellen, Arnie, Bonnie and Amy. (Hallström, Blomquist, Matalon, Ohlsson, Teper 1993). The movie reveals the struggles that the family face while raising Arnie who had a chronic mental illness (Hallström et al., 1993). This paper will discuss the priority concerns and corresponding interventions that are pertinent for the Grape family based on thorough use of the Calgary family assessment model. The focus of this papers assessment on the family will be on the functional aspect; however the structural and developmental aspects have been assessed.
In literature, both regionalism and naturalism are derived from realism. Regionalism describes specific regional landscapes and reveals that area’s form of communication and customs. On the other hand, naturalism focuses more on society, the environment, spirits, and the concepts that are beyond what our brains are capable of comprehending; more or less, the facts. Although both make for a diverse set of literature work, they seem to interlink in ways. For instance, both regionalism and naturalism expose the reality of life and the struggles that humans face.
The Roman writer and naturalist Pliny the Elder, in his treatise Naturalis Historia states “there is nothing more useful than wine for strengthening the body, while, at the same time, there is nothing more pernicious as a luxury, if we are not on our guard against excess.” Years before he wrote those words, wine had in fact come from humble origins outside Italy itself. Furthermore, the process of fermenting grapes goes back thousands of years, and its beginning can be traced to where the wild grown grape-vine, vitis vinifera, flourished and was actively utilized for this reason.
The family dynamics in the Grape family is close and reflects a general sense of caring. Each character on some level interacted with one another in order to keep the family together. While Gilbert works tirelessly as a caregiver for his brother, he also works to provide for his family. When Ellen is not preoccupied with herself, she also helps take care of her mother. Bonnie, while immobile for much of the movie, runs her family unit from her spot on the couch, and she is included in meals when they bring the table to her in order for them to eat together. In each situation, the sibling is frustrated that Arnie has not been watch properly, but their main focus is on getting Arnie down to safety. Once that occurs then the family goes on with their activities of daily living and it is not a source of tension until the next event. Another example occurs when Gilbert breaks down and hits Arnie right before his birthday party. Gilbert flees the home after this incident occurs, but when he returns home and apologizes to Arnie, he easily forgives him and all is right with the world. They instantly fall into their routine of playing the where’s Arnie game. This shows that Gilbert and Arnie have a good line of communication, and an understanding of one another love for each other. Although, the family lives in a rural environment there are many strengths that stem from being a part of a small community. Economic returns in the global market place have been influenced by trends in wine consumption. Figure 2 shows a trend of decreasing wine consumption from 2007 - 2011 in most old world countries while new world countries were increasing their consumption. This is due to the diversification of alcoholic beverages in the old world countries and the growing wine popularity in the new world
In the span of only a few pages, L.B. Church has given us an overview of the winemaking process. He has done so with sufficient detail for those in the chemistry community to follow along, yet still in a cursory enough manner as to not bog them down with the unnecessary. Written as if it were the procedure of an experiment, he has given enough information for the experiment to be repeated, tested, validated and improved upon. The first people that started to depend on farming for food were in Israel and Jordan in about 80000 B.C.. Farming became popular because people no longer had to rely on just searching for food to get their food. In about 3000 B.C. Countries such as Egypt and Mesopotamia started to develop large scale irrigation systems and oxen drawn plows. In about 500 B.C. the Romans started to realize that the soil needed certain nutrients in order to bare plants. They also realized that if they left the soil for a year with no plants, these important nutrients would replenish. So they started to leave half of a field fallow (unplanted).
