View From My Window by Camille Pissarro
This painting is a landscape and was painted, by Pissarro, from an
upstairs window overlooking his back garden. This picture is mainly
about farmland as it has a lady with some hens and some cows in the
distance.
In the foreground of this picture there is a large shrub at the front,
to the right there is a grass area with a more similar shrubs and to
the left there is another grass area with a lady surrounded by hens.
The middleground is all grass area with several trees and several cows
you can just see. The background has all trees - the start of a forest
and then a sixth of the picture includes the sky. The artist captures
your attention by the bright colours and in my opinion the focal point
of the picture is the roof of the building as it's red and is the
brightest point. I don't think the artist has really used line as such
, but he creates line by dabbing the brush to form straight lines.
I think the artist has used a wide range of tones from light to dark,
the lightest point being the very centre of it which is a light
green/yellow colour and the brightest point being the red roof. There
are a few dark points too - there is a very dark green shrub and at
the left background the sky is a dark grey/blue. I like this because
it adds form to the painting and i think it makes it look more
realistic.
I think the shapes that have been used are regular eg. the sky is a
rectangle , the trees are a rounded rectangle shape and circle shaped.
In my opinion most of the shapes are formed and look 3D.
The main colour of this painting is green and it's used in all
different tones and shades. I think the majority of the colours are in
harmony although I would say the red contrasts with the green around
it. I'm sure a different approach could have changed the picture eg.
with warmer colours it would look more of a sunny picture but with
darker colours it would look more of a dull picture. I think the
texture of the picture looks rough because the artist has created
texture by using dabs of paint to make a shape or an object.
The building in the foreground is slose up but you can tell it gets
further and further away into the distance as the trees get smaller
and there's a lot more of them.
Behind that there is some green grassy land with a couple of trees, and behind the grass
One focal point in Twilight in the Wilderness is the sun. To bring the attention to the sun, Church uses the contrast in the colors in the painting to his advantage. He uses broad contrast as well as a focused contrast that reveals the main focal point. The broad contrast deals with the colors in the sky and the lack of the color of in the lower half of the painting. The brighter colors in the sky in comparison to the dull colors in the lower half of the painting draws attention to the brighter sky. Within the sky itself, Church uses the different colors and different color temperatures to bring the viewer’s eyes to the main focal point. The warm yellow colors being next to the cool and dark teal and red-orange colors emphasizes the brighter, warmer yellow of the sun and brings attention to
Through the use of complementary colors, she achieves great contrast. Contrasting hues develop a theme of light vs. dark, or in Liu’s case, expectations vs. reality. Dark colors are used to suggest the harsh, chaotic conditions experienced by the workers; while light, less saturated colors illustrate the calm passivity of traditional Chinese customs and ideas. The sky surrounding the stylized women contrasts greatly with the surroundings of the exhausted men. The dark hues establish heavy visual weight below the figures and the light tones of the sky create a sensation of weightlessness and help to further distinguish the fantasy like qualities. Liu also includes the application of analogous colors, primarily to make the traditional figures less dramatic and to help unify the surrounding
Vegetation in the Hudson Plains mostly follows latitude patterns, because of the flat nature of the land. The Hudson Plains are a merge of boreal forest and tundra. Trees are few and far between, denser in the southern, wetter area of the ecozone. In this wetter area, the variety of plants includes: tussocks of sedge, cottongrass, sphagnum moss, dwarf birch, willow shrubs, white spruce, black spruce, larch, balsam, poplar, tamarack, and Jack Pine. In the drier area, vegetation is shrubby and low-lying. It includes Lapland rosebay, crowberry, blueberry, cloudberry, reindeer moss, caribou lichen, and herbs such as arctic aven, purple saxifrage, prickly saxifrage, and lousewort.
...nd beam effect from the composition with the lighter hues in order to create the visual experience from frozen light in the piece.
Southern Okanagan has near desert-like conditions which produce a more arid but unique vegetation, unlike any other in Canada. Here, the deep valley becomes grassland - too dry for tree growth without irrigation. Sagebrush shrubs, cheatgrass, poison ivy and sumac are scattered with beautifully coloured prickly pear cactus, Okanagan sunflower and bitter root.

Smiley deliberately begins her novel by going into great detail about the landscape. She describes the landscape as “unquestionably flat” (Smiley 3) and the land that Ginny’s father owned as “six hundred forty acres, a whole section, paid for, no encumbrances, as flat and fertile, black, friable, and exposed as any piece of land on the face of the earth”(Smiley 4). Smiley also goes on to describe the Zebulon River which you can see running in the distance. Her purpose in describing the landscape is to parallel Lear’s description of his land in Act 1 where he says: “Of all these bounds, even from this line to this,/ With

These color schemes hold true for most of the painting, but some exceptions are notable. At each end of the work the outermost character is considerably darker in skin tone than the others. It seems as if they are being shunned from the rest of the crowd because of their body language. The woman on the far right has her back to us as if she is trying to see what the others are doing, and the woman on the far left is holding her head in her hands as if she is upset about something. Another exception to the common coloring themes is the woman to the right of the idol in the distance. Unlike all of the other char...
One of the most controversial topics of the year is the argument on guns and the government attempting to ban and control certain guns. This topic has always been in disagreement among the American public but has recently become much more popular after several large-scale shootings such as the infamous Sandy Hook. Despite gun control appearing to be the solution to these tragic events, controlling and banning guns will simply not work. Why will it not work and why is it so bad? Because it has not worked before, current gun control laws and attempted laws target the wrong guns, banning the targeted guns or any guns for that matter will not prevent mass shootings, and it infringes on our constitutional rights as Americans. Together, we will not only be addressing these issues, but we will provide well thought out answers to many arguments that pro-gun control advocates can retaliate with.
The jihad is often considered to be a holy war, but the jihad in Afghanistan is the terrorist group responsible for the attacks that continue happen in Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan has a defined military strategy that is being followed by the troops. This proves the belief that no one is in charge of the military is untrue. The military has a defined objective for Afghanistan. The purpose of the war is to stop violence and the spread of the Jihad in Afghanistan (Bacevich). The spread of jihadism would be a direct problem for the American citizens. Many Americans do not see this as a problem, when in fact; it could be a serious threat to American safety. If the jihad was to continue spreading, there could be a potential rise of a jihad in the United States. This is why it is necessary to keep jihadism from spreading.
