Would you rather have a machine that you can go without buying anything for a decade? Then you don’t want a console. Personal Computers, better known as PC’s, are what most people call “the master race of gaming”. They’re called this because they are the best modern device you can use for video gaming. People believe this because you can save a lot of money, and you can also play games without noticing any screen tears. Consoles claim to be better than PC’s, but they’re practically the same thing. The only difference is PC’s you have options to the comfortability of a controller, or the accuracy of a mouse. You can even change the performance your system outputs for better gameplay. One thing that most people think why consoles are better …show more content…
than PC’s are the price. At first glance, a one thousand dollar computer obviously costs more than a four hundred dollar console, right?
Not exactly. In the long run, the PC will be costing you much less then paying for a console. This is because you can replace parts in PC’s when you cannot do the same with consoles. PCWorld states that “you could easily stick to a budget build with as-needed upgrades and be totally fine for a long, long time, especially if your goal is only to stay ahead of consoles. Stagger them and you'll end up spending the same or less than if you bought a new console every three or four years.” Let me remind you that Sony and Microsoft both have released two different consoles in the last three years, not mentioning the PS4 Slim, costing you a minimum of seven hundred and fifty. Meanwhile, according to PCWorld’s Hayden Dingman “the PC is admittedly more expensive up front, but your upgrade path later is markedly easier. If you're a budget gamer, you can probably run the same processor for up to six years, and the same graphics card for four to five years. Case? RAM? Power …show more content…
supply? Fans? Hard drives? All surprisingly cheap stuff you'll carry in perpetuity, build to build, replacing only when absolutely necessary.” I’m not saying that console gamers have to buy a new console whenever it’s released. I’m saying that Microsoft and Sony claimed that the Playstation 4 and Xbox One would last you a decade. So if you just bought a piece of hardware for five hundred dollars, you’d at least expect it to be the best system you could get for at least a decade or so. Then come two years later, there are better versions of the system costing an additional hundred. In conclusion, with being able to replace parts in a PC and not in consoles, you save a great chunk of money. (A bit of a forewarning before you read the second body paragraph, this talks a lot about PC specifications and console specs such as how a PS4 Pro has 2.1 gigahertz. Just know that the more numbers you have, the better.) I think it is unfair to compare the difference in graphics and performance between consoles and PC’s, but I’m doing it anyway.
On console, there is a lot of really good looking games due to Microsoft’s and Sony’s 1.75GHz AMD 8-core CPU APU. On PC, almost all the games have the potential to look beautiful. This is due to a CPU and GPU you could purchase. The CPU is a AMD 8-core FX-9590 that outputs 4.70GHz, and the GPU is a GeForce GTX 1080 Titan with 1.81GHz. You might be wondering, how come the consoles didn’t a GPU. This is because the CPU is an APU which means that the CPU is also a GPU, which limits what the consoles full potential is. PCWorld’s Brad Chacos says “On the flip side of the coin, you could drop a thousand dollars on your graphics card alone if you want eye candy that’s borderline life-like, or create a gloriously monstrous multi-monitor setup, or be slightly more reasonable and build a gaming PC that falls somewhere between the extremes. Single-monitor 2560x1440 gaming at 60fps is the current PC gaming sweet spot, in my opinion, though shooting-game fans sometimes aim for a 1080p monitor capable of 120Hz to 144Hz for faster reaction times—neither of which consoles are capable of.” PC out-performs consoles both performance and graphics. If you’re wondering if all this is true, then why don’t console gamers become PC gamers? Simple; this is due to a process that happens to most people called post purchase rationalism. Post purchase rationalism is when you buy
your first product you are stuck to believe that whatever company sold the product, then the product has to be the best of the best. It’s why most people like iPhone’s more than Androids or vise versa. In conclusion, there is only so much that consoles can output. You could overclock your console to be instead outputting 2.3GHz.or even 2.5GHz with the right amount of cooling, but this is the maximum a console could output. The maximum a PC can output is an outstanding 5.0GHz, doubled the amount of consoles. Sure, PC’s performance is phenomenal, but you have to give consoles credit for making the controllers. There are a lot of games that need to be played with a controller. Some games wouldn’t have even been released if it weren’t for consoles. Then again, these controllers are optional on the PC; so you can either have the comfortability of a controller or the accuracy of a mouse and keyboard. I admit, I was once much more fond of the console and thought that PC’s were just a minor thing in the gaming community. Then I put research into it and bought a PC. The evidence provided in my essay was from PCWorld. I don’t believe this is biased due to the fact that if you read the articles thoroughly, you can find that the authors were once consoles gamers. The evidence also provides the specifications of both consoles and PC’s showing that PC’s are better.
The sun beaming down, burning his skin. Sweat pours down his face like a bucket of water. At this moment he knew… his journey to hole eighteen had begun. Step after step and swing after swing he is getting closer and closer. His opponent is close behind him in points and hole 18 is approaching. Swinging and missing and hitting the ball in the wrong direction sets him back. After finally making it in hole 17, he realizes it is going to take a miracle to win this match. He sets his feet shoulder width apart, he looks down at the ball and centers his body. The man takes one deep breath in and on the exhale, he swings with maximum force. Quickly he finds the ball flying in the air, approaching the pin with a bright red flag. The ball hits the green and rolls toward the hole. Within a matter of seconds, the ball disappears. It had made it in the hole. It was
Imagine for a moment, a world of death. For 200 years your family has been sealed away with a thousand other people, to protect you from the dangers outside. Now your father has disappeared, and it’s up to you to find him. After a harrowing escape from your subterranean home, you walk through a tunnel to the outside world, past dead bodies, stretched out in front of the door, as if to say “don’t leave us out here to die!” As you walk through the gate to the outside, and as your eyes slowly adjust to the sun you have never seen, a wasteland emerges before you. The world is devastated, destroyed and annihilated. Broken twisted hunks of metal lie next to a sign on the side of the mountain saying “scenic overlook” on your right, the broken remains of the interstate bridge stand as a monument to a destroyed culture. Petrified trees are all that remains of the local fauna. Off in the distance, all that remains is destruction. While you may think of this stunning visualization of a wonderful novel, this is actually one of the opening scenes from Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios’ “Fallout 3.”
After reading The “Most Dangerous Game” we, as a class, were asked whether or not it is considered correct to kill someone but, like a ballot, there were mixed results. This can branch out into a wide variety of topics ranging from abortion to downright murder. “Most Dangerous game” is a short story about a man named Rainsford who gets saved after a boat crash. The man who saved him, General Zaroff, is a hunter. A trait both share in common. However, Zaroff kills humans rather than animals in that the hunt is more thrilling. Of course, there is a disagreement on the subject matter to further the plot. Rainsford is completely opposed to the idea of killing his own kind. We also analyzed the film, “The Hunger Games”. Katniss Everdeen was forced into an arena where the only way to stay alive was to kill others. Both pieces of literature are a survival of the fittest test. Both had justifiable reasons for killing and it made reputable, however morbid, sense.

I chose the PlayStation 4 as my artifact because it is the computer that provides media and entertainment to the largest screen in a living space: the television. Having a beautiful eighty inch flat screen is useless without a device to play media. The PlayStation 4 is my device of choice to have connected to my TV. It is the jack of all trades, gaming on it is phenomenal, there is a Blu-ray player built in, and it has hundreds, if not thousands, of apps including Netflix. With a PlayStation 4 plugged into my TV I have access to endless amounts of content; A fundamental need to the college life.
Building a gaming computer may be an intimidating endeavour, but in all actuality with a little hard work anyone can be a whiz at putting together a gaming computer. Why build a custom gaming PC? Well it’ll save money, and give the builder a great experience. It’s always fun to learn how different things work. The price of a top of the line retail gaming computer runs from two thousand on up to five thousand dollars and beyond, a monitor alone could cost one thousand dollars. The two types of gaming PC builds are , the hardcore gamer build which will cost a little extra, and the casual gamer build which isn’t as expensive; moreover, the steps in building a gaming PC are: creating a budget, researching what the builder/user wants the PC to be used for, and purchasing the equipment.

Video games started as arcade machines with simple graphics and even simpler stories, soon evolving into home gaming with The Magnavox Odyssey, the world’s first home-gaming console. It invaded living rooms in 1972, selling 300,000 units. Since then there has been many consoles and games released, some have been huge commercial successes which
Tommy scuffles through the front door, drops his book bag on the floor and plops down on the couch with a scowl across his face. As his PlayStation fires to life, he replays scenes from the day in his head of being shoved into the lockers by Billy, unable to form the words to impress Sussie, and sitting alone at lunch listening to the popular kids laugh and joke, ignoring him as if he did not exist. No one understands him. No one cares about him, because he is not strong, charming, or popular. All that is soon avoided as Tommy dives into a world where he controls everything and everyone either fears or loves him. If he fails, all he must do is reset. Here he can be anything he wants, and he can do and have it all.
Whether they be first-person shooters like Call of Duty, sports games like Madden or Fifa, racing games like Forza or Mariokart, or even games and apps on your phones, there are quite a bit of gamers in here. According to the Entertainment Software Association, about 59% of American play some sort of video game, so gaming isn’t all that uncommon (Entertainment Software Association, 2014). As such, there must be some sort of effect on the audience of this growing form of entertainment.
There are several negative stereotypes associated with video games and those who play them; some of these may often hold true. However, there are plenty of learning opportunities in video games. While the direct purpose of some games is to educate or train, other games that do not directly have this purpose can still become a learning experience for the player. As Ntiedo Etuk, president of the educational video game company Tabula Digital said, “The traditional view of video games has been that they are distractions from the task of learning” (Electronic Education Report 1). Video games are an effective tool for learning and retaining skills both inside and outside the classroom environment. The basic cycle of game play--the introduction to the game, game play, collaboration, improvement of these between each round, and evaluation at the end of the game (Klievink and Janssen 159)--are nearly parallel to the traditional classroom learning cycle of reading a textbook or listening to a lecture, taking a quiz, studying, focusing on items missed on the quiz, and taking a test or exam. Within this cycle, there are many opportunities to develop and perfect both educational, life, and occupational skills.

I cannot forget how excited I was when I first bought my own computer. Like a mother who spends time sewing and knitting for her newborn baby, I spent hours and hours to sparkle my computer. I waited a long time to buy a brand new computer. I had to work more hours and saved money to buy a computer. I did not want to buy a cheap computer, but I wanted to buy a professional one. Was I professional on computer? No! I was not. I did not even know how to type, but I was sure that my expensive com puter could make me a computer expert. 17 inches monitor, color printer, two speakers and well-designed fancy keyboard made me just happy by looking at them on my desk.
