As part of my high school program I have to write this essay, the topic I have chosen is which career I
would like to pursue. The career I have picked is to be a veterinary. The dictionary explains it means:
relating to the medical care and treatment of animals. For me as a child I was very interested in animal
care, I was interested in how it all works and the process of making an animal happier and healthier
again. Veterinarians and their practices may be specialized in certain areas of veterinary medicine.
Unlike human medicine, veterinary specialties often combine both the surgical and medical aspects
of a biological system. I have done some research as to how many different practices there are, but here
are some

options: Exotic animal veterinarian - Generally considered to include reptiles, exotic birds such as parrots and cockatoos, and small mammals such as ferrets, rabbits, chinchillas. Conservation medicine - The study of the relationship between animal and human health and environmental information.
Small animal practice - Usually dogs, cats, and other companion animals/household pets such as
hamsters and gerbils. Some practices are canine-only or feline-only practices.
Laboratory animal practice - Some veterinarians work in a university or industrial laboratory and are
responsible for the care and treatment of laboratory animals of any species (often involving bovines,
porcine species, felines, canines, rodents, and even exotic animals). Their responsibility is not only for
the health of the animals, but also for enforcing humane and ethical treatment of the animals in the
facilities.
Wildlife medicine - Wildlife medicine veterinarians may work with zoologists and conservation medicine
practitioners and may also be called out to treat marine species such as sea otters, dolphins, or whales
after a natural disaster or oil spill.

Aquatic medicine - mostly refers to veterinary care of fish in aquaculture (like salmon, cod, among other
species), but can also include care of aquatic mammals.
These options have shown me what I can pursue as a career. These all have my catch my attention. But,
will I be able to afford these classes? , How long will college take? , Do I have what it takes to become
a veterinarian? I hope we can find out some answers to my questions. First off, I have researched some prices on what college might cost. Around the area where I live in Delaware, it will cost me: $28,000-$54,000 (per year). Veterinary medicine program generally takes 4 years to complete and includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical components. Veterinarians must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary college and a state license. The next step is to go to veterinary college for 4 more years. The annual wage for veterinarians is approximately $90,000. Candidates should expect very strong competition for available veterinarian positions, especially in companion animal care. Those with specializations and prior work experience should have the best job opportunities. So I should expect for college to be long and hard. But I do hope I have what it takes to become a veterinarian. All of these facts show me that it can be possible to pursue the career that I had always been dreaming of. So now I have to decide if I want to start pursuing this career. And although all of this studying in college might be really physically and mentally draining, it shows that people who and students who are dedicated and have good grades can achieve their goal to pursue this career, and that’s who I plan to be, a hard dedicated student who wants to learn about animals and how to treat them and how to make them healthy and happier again.
Vet Tech has always been an option for me, helping animals is something that is very interesting. It was introduced in 1989, the AVMA officially adopted the name “Vet Tech.” In 1998, emergency vets debut on Animal Planet. And in 2008, student population grows from 500 to 700. There are about 17,000 people employed in the career field chosen. Some of the common trends of the job would be, working at Zoos, Aquariums, Boarding Kennels, and Wildlife sanctuaries. These jobs are usually found working in an animal clinic or hospitals and sometimes at farms because that is the “normal” areas for this occupation. In this career there are some general duties such as: Observe animals behavior and conditions, Provide nursing care, Bathe animals, Clip nails, groom animals hair, keep animals calm during exams or procedures. The more specific duties of the job would be to: take x-rays of animals and develop them, get utensils and prepare the animals for surgery, keep and record patient's history. Most of the clinics are open 24 hours. There is not anything that is unusual about the number of hours/nature of the job. (Bls.gov.vettech)
My interest in and understanding of the field of veterinary science has only been heightened with the time I have spent on various valuable work experience placements over recent years, especially during the four weeks in small and mixed animal practices in England, Wales, and Ireland. Spending time in these four very different practices allowed me to observe a wide range of routine and emergency

The history of being a veterinarian has been around since human beings have interacted with animals. For a long time, ever since man tamed animals, there is a need to monitor their health. Just as human, they suffer the same diseases: a cold, sore throat, stomach ulcer, and urolithiasis. Veterinary Medicin...
Veterinarians can be employed by government agencies and the food indudtry to cater to meat and milk producers to ensure that the herd is healthy and that the product is suitable for human consumption. These veterinarians deal with many animals like ovine (sheep), poultry, porcine (swine) and bovine
...e). So you should consider going for the job with less competition. “There are about 59,700 veterinarians in the United States (Careers and Vocational Guidance). The amount of workers has not died down, and the number will continue to increase. Veterinarians’ prospect is extremely good, the outlook is much faster than average, and it would be a great choice in the future.
I have always wondered what my future career would be.I experienced many things during my days in school and at home.My experiences helped me realize that I should become an animal caretaker.Becoming an animal caretaker would mean that I could spend my time working and interacting with animals.I would need to be able to care for living creatures, have the right education, and withstand the disadvantages.
I have not yet narrowed my interest to a specific field of veterinary medicine. I want to remain open to explore the wide range of medical practice that I will be exposed to in veterinary school and eventually be able to use to impact the quality of life for both humans and animals. My high academic achievement, understanding of the profession, personal experiences and drive to make an impact on the quality of life for both humans and animals are all qualities that make me an excellent candidate for the veterinary

Veterinary Medicine is a competitive field, whether you are going for your Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or to be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). There will be competitive programs you will need to do well in to be able to continue working at getting a degree to this field. A veterinarian or vet is a professionally skilled worker licensed in providing a wide range of medical care to diverse types of animals. I was able to conduct an interview with Nadeene DeLong, Licensed Veterinary Technician who works at Town and Country Animal Care in Marlette, Michigan. She not only was able to give me information about what her day is filled with but also the knowledge
Some individuals primarily work in clinics, where they handle appointments with clients or practice veterinary research (Moore). During appointments, a large variety of health issue’s may need to be taken care of. For example, animals can be wounded, needing a diagnoses, or incredibly ill (Moore). Some veterinarians also handle animals that are in the process of giving birth or simply pregnant (Moore). Other veterinarians travel to take care of their clients needs. Client’s that live on farms can frequently need a doctor’s assistance to care for their animals (Moore). Large-animal veterinary practices usually deal with the majority of farm animals (Moore). Goats, llamas, and cattle are only a few of the common farm animals that veterinarians tend to care for on farms (Moore). Uncommon animals are also worked upon in this field. Working with a wide variety of animals daily, leads this profession to be remarkably intriguing and full of frequent

Towards animal welfare comes the aspect of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is a fairly recent subject that has affected society. Animal cruelty has now shown comparisons through human abused households. The concern is recent because as society changes humans attitudes change which now affects towards animals. Animal welfare is used to help animal cruelty, because decreasing the violence between animals and humans can help the regulations of animal welfare. Research and testing have become more prominent and a strong concern to the public on the treatment on animals. Many activists today are trying to change the view people see toward the animal they have as a companion. Ethical issues are the many concerns about animals and the question always asked is,”who has the right to control the animal?”
