Introduction
Veterinarians are doctors that take care, treat, and help the animals that are severely ill, and even take part in human activity. This career is perfect for someone who has the right skills and qualifications, including personality and attitude and one who can deal with any working conditions that this job has to offer. Being a veterinarian has its benefits and drawbacks, and just like any other career, you need the proper requirements to pursue it.
Education and Training
Education and training is very important in order to be qualified as a good veterinarian. You need the right personality traits, and skills for the job. It is difficult to enter this career field so it is important to maintain a great GPA, and at least have a four-year bachelor’s degree. “There are 28 colleges of Veterinary Medicine in the United States” (Careers and Vocational Guidance). That isn’t many colleges available, and there aren’t many options for you. The minimum education requires two years of training, six years of college, and license is also required for this field (Reeves 114). This may seem like many years, but it’s worth it. To enter in this career field a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine must be earned (Occupational Outlook Handbook). If veterinary medicine is one of your choices for the future, then you should consider starting early. For example, taking courses in high school such as, biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physics is important. The amount of workers has not died down, and the number will continue to increase. Veterinarians’ prospect is extremely good, the outlook is much faster than average, and it would be a great choice in the future.
Conclusion
As you can see the veterinarian job field has its benefits and drawbacks, and just like any other career, education is extremely important and patience is needed. Working conditions in this career can vary, and in the future the salary range and job outlook will increase. This career can be a lot to handle; it can come with stress, emotion, excitement and joy. This job isn’t for everyone but if you meet with everything that this job has to offer then being a vet is a great job for you.
