Venetian Twins is an excellent play. Each character has his and her own character development throughout the story. The transition between each scene is smoothly captivating with the light effect and stage advancement. Unlike the friendly atmosphere of the previous La Bete, Venetian Twins creates the glamorous and intense aura all through. Since the play is placed on a bigger stage, actors have to portray more signified movements in order to allure the audience’s attention for each scene. The first actor that impresses me the most is Macgregor Arney. He portrays two characters in the play, Florindo and Arlechino, amazingly. His humorous scenes contribute to the overall success of the play. He portrays several different body shapes during …show more content…
his scenes. As Florindo, his objective is to marry Beatrice. He surpasses his two main obstacles, which is Beatrice is his Tonino’s fiancée and Beatric’s negligence to him. To overcome his obstacles, Florindo deceives Tonio and tries to seduce Beatrice. However, opposite with the charisma Tonino, Florindo is a wimp. Arney has portray Florindo’s characteristics perfectly. For example, he acts hesitant and trembles his legs during a fight. He also changes his spatial relationship constantly. He attempts to get closer in order to charm Beatrice after deceiving her that Tonino has abandoned her. Furthermore, he also uses the architecture on the stage when he climbs into the gigantic chest with Beatrice. Arney is able to clearly expresses his character’s subtext as a devious character, opposite to the way the character expresses himself as a hero and a good friend. Nonetheless, when Arney plays as Arlechino, his objective at first was to marry the maid, Columbina after Zanetto gets married to the mistress, Rosaura. When he sees the Columbina, they perform a passionate dance together. This is when he changes his tempo throughout the scene. His body movements also change rapidly according to his tempo. As the result, Arney has perfectly portrays two different characters, which both have the role to create comic relief throughout the play. The second actress that has captured my attention right at the beginning of the play is Mary Glen Fredrick.
She plays Columbina, the maid for Rosaura. Her objective is to get married after her mistress. Right from the beginning of the play, when she stands along with the cast’s shadow, her perfect body shape has made her stand out to me as the audience. She stands with her back straight up, tilts her head while showing her long leg. From her posture, I can already imagine her as a sassy, bold and confident character. She is good at kinesthetic response. For example, when she is sweeping the props out of the way for the next scene. She still stays in her character, acts sassily and interacts with the audiences. Interestingly, she uses her repetition to increase her tempo in the first scene of the play. When the Professor avoid her when she mentions about marriage, she threatens to reveal the truth of his daughter’s identity by continuously muttering. Even though she does not have much scenes in the play, she has perfectly embodied her character throughout. She grasps the audience’s attention whenever she goes out on the stage, even as the minor role of the scene. Overall, the actors and the director have accomplished a splendid performance. Everything from the stage effects and lightning have been able to emphasize the plot of the play along with the actor’s acting potential. I am grateful toward the whole production team to bring a well-done performance. The success of the play
shows the amazing result achieved through teamwork. Not only have I learned many new knowledge while taking Introduction to Theatre course, I am glad I also have the opportunity to enjoy these performances.
Overall, I enjoyed this play. Even with the dull ending, I found it to be entertaining and a good use of my time. The cast was great and they made good use of a decent
It was very nice to read something that had a lot of drama and suspense. This story has a mix of everything. It has a bit of suspense, drama, and comedy; therefore, it led it to be a very nice play. The people that would most like this play, has to be people who like suspense, drama, and thriller. These people would like it, because this story has a mix of everything, so the people who like to have a mix in their stories, they will love this story. It will suit them, and will give them a pleasure of reading a nice
As far as acting, the performers were able to convey the feelings they needed to. However, some characters such as Ol' Cap'n played by Dick Lambert and Luttibelle played by April Curry, seemed more committed and engaging in their roles than others. A crucial factor in April Curry portraying her role so well was her vocal talent far exceeded that of any of the other major performers. She had an amazing voice that I was dazzled by from curtain up to down and left me craving for more. This almost compensated for my disappointment when it came to the ensemble singing to the soundtrack. Many performers were dependent on the cd and were not confident as to when to begin or stop singing, which dampered many moments of the performers. Another element of acting that I enjoyed was the exaggerated use of cooning throughout the duration of the performance that brought characters to life, and enabled certain moments to seem real.
At the start of the play she was described as a girl who is very
When it came to the dialogue of the production and the understanding of it the performers again did an excellent job. Their gestures and vocal elements all aided in the production’s success and were all fittingly used by the characters. For example, when Lala was talking on the phone with Peachy she casually twirled the phone cord in her hand, leaned against the banister and childishly flirted with Peachy.
This major production for Venice Theater was a success in my opinion. It was well worth doing; as I cant remember a moment that was not full of laughter from the audience, as this play kept everyone on the edge of their seats. They did a fantastic job finding actors and actresses who did outstanding with their rolls. Any escapist would thoroughly enjoy this production.
Baz Luhrmann is smart in using young, attractive characters to make the adaptation more appealing to a more adolescent audience. Shakespeare would be proud of it. Through an explosion of colourful costumes, the audience is amazed at Luhrmann’s use of symbolic ensembles.
The acting in the play was superb. Honestly everyone did an excellent job. Kody Grassett’s ability to act feminine like Mother Superior was amusing and realistic. Brianna Joseph’s dancing had myself laughing hysterically. Alexandra Voelmle’s portrayal of Agnes and her ability to switch from an innocent personality to her later sinful personality was impressive. The individual performances really showcased each actor’s strong suit which kept the audience intrigued the entire time. I can relate to all the characters as each one is struggling to showcase exactly how they want to be known to the
In conclusion, the acting in the production was very good. I was held captivated by the accents and shocked by the language and dialect because I knew that this really happens and has happened. I felt like I could actually change what was happening on stage. For Instance, when the rumble is happening and Bernardo and Riff bring out the switchblades, I gasped. Silently to myself, I said "DON'T DO THIS. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CLEAN FAIR FIGHT. YOU GUYS ARE MORE SIMILAR THAN YOU ARE DIFFERENT, JUST BEING FRIENDS." The same occurrence happened when Anita is assaulted by the Jets when attempting to find Tony to save him. I understood her feelings and wanted the Jets to get in trouble for their actions. I became invested in what happened to the
Powerful theater combines intellectual ideas and artistry of language with the visual power of movement and physical strength. The theater I most appreciate involves the actors’ equal commitment to their bodies as to their voices. This theater makes art of the entirety of our evolution—biological, linguistic, and cultural—and represents the ultimate artistic elevation of the human spirit. This is the theater I strive to create. I believe the director is ultimately responsible for providing the distinct, guiding perspective of a production. A strong director brings the audience a cogent, well-reasoned interpretation of the play and ensures consistency among the actors and design elements to create a production that is clear and effective. To do this well, a director must explore the history of the play and the playwright's inspiration as well as look for corollaries to the play’s style and subject in other media, culture and intellectual ideas, and ultimately, compile this information into a coherent blueprint for realizing the world and presenting the themes of the play. It is precisely this studied, integrative aspect of directing that I am most attracted to, and, I believe, that makes me a strong director.
Every face had excellent expressions, presenting their characters perfectly. Also, each actor added their own twist on the characters, anywhere from a slight accent to body language, adding more depth to the entire musical. Furthermore, every actor changed their voice in a way that depicted their character’s emotions and attitude at that particular moment. Also, the color of the lights changes according to each scene and the mood for that particular scene.
In conclusion, I enjoyed this play, and my reaction was enhanced by the dramatic tension Miller creates in so many ways. The unexpected twists and use of dramatic irony help to keep the audience?s attention, while the sub-plot of rivalry adds interest and also reflects the main plot. The abrupt ending of act one, reflects the abrupt ending of the play as a whole, leaving the remainder to the imagination. Ending like these force viewers to envision what would follow, and, once again this all adds to the dramatic tension.
Coming onto the brilliant, Ezra Miller. Well he was quite literally a teenage Oscar Wilde. He put on a mesmerising performance that was really natural and believable, from the way he walked to the way he talked, he really blew me away. He is the perfect actor for this role.
There wasn’t any particular scene on stage that made me doubt the integrative work of the director since all the staging work such as lighting, design, costumes and performance were well coordinated and blended for a very good production. The lights were well positioned with well fitted costumes and a very ideal scene to match. There wasn’t much change of scenes in the play except for some movement of tables and chairs. There was an entrance and exit for the performers which made their movements uninterrupted. There was a loud sound of a bell when school was over while the lights were dimmed whenever there was a change of scene. The pace of the production was very smooth since one scene followed the other without delay and most likely because most of the performers wore the same costume; especially all eight students wore the same costume for the entire
