Variations of Life
Throughout the novels we have read this semesters, one can makes observation that many of the characters from each novel have gone through fear whether it was due to racial strife or threat to life. We then see the characters go out and find their salvation or in some cases leave their homes before being faced with the consequences they have brought upon themselves.. Finally, most character are then faced with their fate in life where in most situation it is death or freedom. We see these variations first develop by author Richard Wright 's in his novel and movie Native Son. Each variations can been seen within different characters from both Cane and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. The variations are shape within …show more content…

In Jean Toomer, Cane, he writes about a woman named Becky. In the opening sentence of the chapter "Becky", Toomer says, "Becky was the white woman who had two Negro sons" (Toomer 9). Becky type of fear is seen because she had two black sons and feared of telling the public who the father of her sons are. In the film that author Richard Wright 's starred in as well as wrote the novel for Native Son, we see himself portray the character of Bigger Thomas who main fear is of the white people in society and the power that they had during that Era. Bigger 's fear of whites is what led him to commit the crime that he accidentally committed. Finally, in Ernest Gaines ', The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, the supporting character of Ned fear is brought upon by the main character of Miss Jane Pittman. Word gets out that Ned is apart of a politcal committee for blacks in the South. People that dislike the fact he apart of this committee, they nearly beat Miss Jane Pittman in trying to find out where Ned was. We see in a sense that Ned himself is in fear of Jane 's life to as he says, "They came here and beat you this time. They 'll do worse when they come back" (Gaines 78).
