It has been noted that the bell Shakespeare Theatre Company is preparing to stage a rendition of “Othello”. As such, I believe that I may be able to provide some level of educated insight into the overall themes, Values and Visual staging of the play. Particularly, lines: 1.1.27-67, In order to ensure that you’re staging is accurate, engaging and visually pleasing to Show-goers.

This would give the audience idea that Iago has much more power and influence that Roderigo. As The scene progresses, a light above Iago should flicker from pale-warm yellow light to a deep green as to provide a use of Mise en scene as to dictate the jealousy of Cassio that Iago is experiencing. Over the Duration of this scene, the light over Roderigo could become slowly dimmer as to create a vector. This can clearly be seen in lines 43-67, where Iago proceeds to talk about how some servants live and serve their masters until they die, and others who bide their time until they can strike swiftly and gain leverage and power of their masters. Iago mentions his admiration for the soul of such men who aspire to commit this treachery. He relates this practice to how he plans to get revenge on Othello by replicating the techniques of the servants to deceive and trick him into demoting Cassio and promoting Himself instead. Afterwards, he continues to comment on his character, that of him being a man of treachery and mentioning to Roderigo “I am not what I am”, pointing to the fact that many people fail to see him as he truly is, opening them up to his lies and twisted
