The Finance team, for example, is in regular, if not constant communication with the Analyst team, to confirm actual work completed by research sites and approval of payment to sites participating in research. Research site fees during start-up, confirmation of subject visits through Electronic Data Capture tools, and payment approvals through the Clinical Trial Management System are all communicated to the Finance team from the Business Analyst team. The Project Management team also depends heavily on the Business Analyst team during the feasibility period of setting up a clinical trial, as the BA can access de-identified data and can consult on operational considerations crucial to a potential trial. The Business Analyst can also come in as a Subject Matter Expert when setting up fixed and variable budgets in relation to a protocol and will be a point of contact for research sites inputting billing data related to randomized subjects and subject visits, thereby being the first in line to identify any potential billing issues affected by protocol

The data utilized for trial analysis are maintained anonymous, however the trial management data carry personal identifiers for conduct of study and to ensure patient safety. The patient source data is encrypted and password protected allowing access to authorized personnel and prevents transfer to electronic media device. The list of authorized personnel will be maintained in the Trial Master File. The audit trails captures all activities pertaining to conduct of clinical trials and tracks changes performed to data. The date and time stamp used impede chances of misuse. On completion of the trial, the data will be locked using DMS file locking facility to prevent tampering of
Creating a budget in clinical research is very detailed, organized and specific towards each individual clinical research trial. When coming up with a budget you need to know what your limit is and stick to it. Negotiating a budget can be difficult, both sides need to collaborate and discuss the necessary and reasonable funds for the trial. There are limits to a budget which include no construction, travel is limited, and overall cost can’t exceed a set limit. (1, 3)

Companies have transformed technology from a supporting tool into a strategic weapon.”(Davenport, 2006) In business research, technology has become an essential means that many organizations use in their daily operations. According to the article, Analytics is a major technological tool used. It is described as “the extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive models, and fact-based management to drive decisions and actions."(Davenport, 2006) Data is compiled to enhance business practices. When samples are taken, they are used to examine research and understand how to solve problems or why situations are as they are. Furthermore, in this article, Thomas Davenport discusses analytics from a business standpoint. He refers to organizations that have been successful in their usage of data and statistical analysis. In addition, he also discusses how data and statistics can be vital in the efforts to improve the operations of businesses.
Pfizer has a senior leadership that is strongly committed to using analytics to reduce operating costs while increasing revenues. One of the ways senior leadership has accomplished this was to focus on real-time data collection as a strategy in customer analytics. Sales personnel are now equipped with tablets that allows Pfizer analytics teams to collect large amounts of data from customers in real-time. The data is synced daily thus giving Pfizer the ability to detect patterns which allows them to make decisions concerning sales more efficiently (Davenport& Harris 2011).
First of all, business intelligence analysis requires the capturing of information and storing in a single location for effective data analysis. Currently, data analysis is supported by transactional systems, business specific data marts, and other ad-hoc processes. Information is distributed making it difficult and time-consuming to access. Business teams have adapted to this environment by creating user maintained databases and manual “work-arounds” to support new types of reporting and analysis. This has resulted in inconsistent data, redundant data storage, significant resource use for maintenance, and inefficient response to changing business needs.
Analytics means using data and performing statistical analysis on it, applying quantitative and predictive models, in order to arrive at a certain decision. Analytics can be the first step in a process or can rather be an intermediate step as well. Analysis can be done using different set of tools that are available in the market or it can done manually using different concept and formulas. Business intelligence firms like Cognos, SAS and BusinessObjects have developed different tools that are readily available in market that assist in analysis and decision making. Analytics is used in order to find solutions to the problems and the solutions provided enables us to be successful and in the business world allow us to compete with our contenders.

Two key job markets and the basis of this research paper are business intelligence or BI and data mining or DM. These two fields play a very important role in small to large companies and are becoming higher desired sectors within the back offices of the workplace. This paper will explore what the meaning of BI and DM really is, how they are used and what we can expect as workers and learners of the technology and business fields for the future.
