Based on the results from the VALS survey, my primary type segment would categorize as an Experiencers. According to the VALS site, Experiencers have high resources and a Self-Expression motivation. Members of this group typically want everything, are first in and first out of trend adoption, go against the current mainstream, are up on the latest fashions, love physical activity (are sensation seeking), see themselves as very sociable, believe that friends are extremely important, are spontaneous and have heightened sense of visual stimulation. I believe that the VALS survey was accurate in their description of the Experiencer. I find that I typically do want everything that’s on the market, even though I don’t need it. I have always had the “you only like once” mentality. So, I tend to do things on the whim. An example of this would be when I decided to take my brother to Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA. I made the decision to go at around one in the morning and at seven in the morning we were on the road to go to State College, PA. The VALS survey also categorized my secondary type to an Innovator. Innovators typically are always taking in information, are confident enough to experiment, make the highest number of financial transactions, are skeptical about advertising, have international exposure, are future oriented, are self-directed consumers, believe science and R&D are creditable, are most receptive to new ideas and technologies, enjoy the challenge of problem solving and have the widest variety of interest and activities. I also believe that the description of the Innovator was spot on as well. I have always been future oriented. I have always had a path that I was going to follow for my future. Even though some things didn’t go as planned. I would have a backup plan. For example, my original plan was to major in Finance at the University of …show more content…
It’s an area that’s fairly close to downtown Silver Spring. The PRIZM data was off on the amount of kids that is present in the area. The area actually has a lot of families with kids and a lot of the families have raised their kids there since birth. Out of the five PRIZM segments, there was only one PRIZM segment that mentions with kids. The two PRIZM segments that I found to best reflect the area were 13.Upward Bound and 10.Second City Elite. This is because Upward Bound is upper families boast dual income with college degrees, which is accurate for the area. A lot of the family’s parents both are educated and working and the kids are either in school or daycare. In the area if they don’t have kids, then the segment that accurately matches them would be Second City Elite. I find that it’s true that for that more than half of them have a college degree and in a professional
middle of paper ... ... A survey conducted in 1996 by the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning revealed that Pyrmont had become home to a more youthful and wealthier population with 55 percent of the population lying in the 20-29 years age bracket. The introduction of new amenities and institutions such as the University of Technology, Chinatown and Star City would certainly have accounted for this. Couples with no children now account for more than 32 percent of the total population and more than 27 percent of new residents have a university degree, compared to 16 percent in 1992.
I feel like materialistic best fits me, because I am externally into name brand items. Sometimes I place myself on a pedestal above everyone else, and if I don’t have the best material things or someone has something that I want but don’t have, I will through a huge fit until I get it. Once I get it there will be something else that I have to have to ensure that I’m better than the next person. From my socks to my suits, if it’s
People are often deceived by some famous brands, which they will buy as useless commodities to feel they are distinctive. People require brands to experience the feeling of being special. People spend their money to have something from famous brands, like a bag from Coach or Louis Vuitton which they think they need, yet all that is just people’s wants. Steve McKevitt claims that people give more thought on features or brands when they need to buy a product, “It might even be the case that you do need a phone to carry out your work and a car to get around in, but what brand it is and, to a large extent, what features it has are really just want” (McKevitt, 145), which that means people care about brands more than their needs. Having shoes from Louis Vuitton or shoes that cost $30 it is designed for the same use.
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
People who fit into Type A would find themselves becoming annoyed to delays, time where they are unproductive and other inconveniences very quickly compared to the other type. Following on from this Type A people would find themselves in a constant race against time rushing to get things done and don’t like waiting this makes these types of people ‘go-getters’ or people who will not settle and want to
When entering my home zip code of 43229, I found the most surprising aspect to be the description they use in identifying the population. One description comes to mind, “Boomtown Singles”. It translates Boomtown Singles as being Young, hip singles who are the prime residents of Young Achievers, a life-stage group of twenty something year olds who've recently settled in metro...
Over this course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my PGI (Personal Globe Inventory) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. I think business management would be an excellent fit for myself because I have actually done some research prior to this class about management. I would like to someday own an ice rink, and I think that becoming a manager would be a great stepping-stone towards reaching my goal. The requirements for becoming a business manager vary from university to university, but the overall direction of the major revo...

In believing that “today’s cities play a different economic role than they did in the past,” Kotkin argues that “At best, Jacobs’s compelling portrait from 1961 is something of an anachronism,” meaning that her lessons are out of place in the current era (Kotkin). Kotkin pulls in details from researcher Gary Evans saying, “Families in urban apartments today… generally have far weaker networks of neighbors than their suburban counterpart, a generally more stressful home life, and significantly less ‘social support’” (Kotkin). Kotkin further implies that Jacobs is outdated when quoting her mentioning how suburbs are not a good place to bring up children (Kotkin). Today the general consensus is that cities are not a safe place to raise a family and that the city is just as stepping stone towards career advancement that will eventually lead a person to a domesticated suburbia lifestyle (Kotkin). “Jacobs… instinctively hated where families were in fact headed: the suburbs” claiming that “neighborhoods like her own... [were] ideal places where locals watched out for each other” (Kotkin). Many families flee cities in hopes of finding a safer community for their children. “[I]n 2011 children 5-14 constitute about seven percent in core districts… [which is] roughly half the level
In this part of my essay the results of the questionnaire are presented. The aim of this part is to get a comprehensive picture about people’s opinion in connection with vampires and their images. I am curious about which vampire do today’s people prefer and which characteristics are best known; the classic or the modern type. I would also like to be informed about which literary works and movies have they heard about containing vampires and to what extent is this knowledge in connection with age and gender. This survey is divided into three parts; the first part contains personal information, the second part is about the respondent’s general knowledge of those literary works, which include vampires and the last part is the common people’s opinions and experiences about vampirism. All in all, my goal is to find out; are the issues presented in chapter one are as serious as it is often said?
Many theorists suggest that consumption is correlated to the identity of an individual, that by purchasing goods from the mass market, it enables us to visibly establish our position within society. This differs from previous times in which a range of factors such as family histories, character and personal achievements played a significant role (Gabriel and Lang, 2006). Instead, there is the idea that the consumer has the ability to gain pleasure over objects, not just solely by the manipulation of objects, but through the degree of control over their meaning. The degree of control is developed and achieved through imagination and provides greater possibilities of pleasure experiences. This suggests that modern consumption can be seen as device that enables individuals to ‘dream’ about the desires they wish to fulfill. (Campbell, 1989: 79) (Cited in Gabirel & Lang, 2006)
ESTPs do not like theoretical debates or think about the unrealistic future. They are only interested in the present moment, and they concentrate all their efforts on what they like to do rather than think about what they can do. ESTPs do not often plan for detailed action; they often rush into the workplace, find faults, and take immediate action. If necessary, they do not mind turning around and fixing their mistakes. ESTP people also tend to view rules and obligations as guidelines rather than unbending rules. ESTP personality can also make them inadvertently hurt others because ESTP is based on facts and logic (element T) rather than emotions (element F), so their words can easily hurt sensitive people. People with this type of personality have no interest in pointless theoretical discussions; in contrast, their passion is all about the areas they perceive to be real and exciting. This personality perfectly fits me, due to the fact that I love studying practical class than learning theoretical lectures. I am also a realistic person in my friends' eyes that I unwitting hurt others' feeling

Apart from that, I'm curious and therefore I get relatively easy enthusiastic about certain ideas, things, etc. I also do not shrink back from challenges - on the contrary, most of the time I love to accept challenges.
I am currently majoring in Finance at Carlson School of Management, and I have decided to explore the career and future growth of a financial analyst. I chose to explore this career because some of my cousins work in this field and I’m interested in numbers and analysis. I also have an interest in following the stock market and working in a stimulating environment. What sets me apart from others is that I’m able to use time management efficiently. I’m able to study and complete major assignments while still finding plenty of time to socialize with others. Having taken StrengthsQuest last year, I learned that I strive for the future, I’m often positive, and I’m a believer in harmony. I believe in consistency, the idea that all people should
