This collection became famous for the ‘V’ logo in which Valentino designed. Jackie Kennedy was a loyal customer and friend of Valentino she wore a design from ‘The White Collection’ to her second marriage. Kennedy said if it weren’t for Valentino she wouldn’t have had her own iconic status in the fashion world. (Valentino,
It is a long-with-standing stereotype that Italians love to gamble. This is true. My great grandfather, Pasquale Giovannone, played the riskiest hand of cards when he immigrated to the United States as an illegal stowaway at the age of thirteen. He forged a life for himself amidst the ever-changing social and political shifts of the early nineteenth century. The legacy he left would later lead to the birth of my father, John Giovannone, in Northern New Jersey in 1962.
These beautiful clothes dazzled the nation. Jackie inspired a whole new look and had a big influence on the current styles.
Jacqueline Kennedy's fashion influence the news story as often as public addresses of the President. “All the talk over what I wear and how I fix my hair has amused me and puzzled me. What does my hairdo have to do with my husband's ability to be President?" (Perry 60). Jacqueline Kennedy’s question was one that needed addressing because for a little over a century American First Ladies’ fashions were constantly being critiqued on a celebrity-like status. First Lady Mary Lincoln also worried about her appearance was recorded telling her seamstress that she felt the public was her greatest critic (Weinham 1). Jacqueline Kennedy’s question proved that the conundrum persisted through to the twentieth century. With Mrs. Kennedy’s logic, political actions on the president’s behalf should have been the only concern the American public had with their First Lady, but the role of First Lady held unwritten conditions. An astounding $300,000,000 was given by the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union to John Kennedy’s presidential campaign to ensure that Jacqueline Kennedy would “buy American” (Perry 58). Even though this is rare case of her fashion’s effect on JFK’s presidential campaigning, her choice in shoes was a miniscule factor to the grand scheme of his election into office.Unbeknownst to Jacqueline Kennedy before her husband’s office, her appearance would have little to do with her “husband’s ability to be president,” but rather, her own ability to embody the ever-evolving American Woman as First Lady of the United States.Jacqueline Kennedy's striking fashion reflected the Women's Liberation Movement with demanding colors, attention, and respect, structured suits and blueprints, and adaptable colloquial outfits a...
Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus was born in approximately 163 B.C.E to Tiberius Gracchus the Elder and Cornelia Africana. Gaius Gracchus, his younger brother, was born in 154 B.C.E. In the 2nd century B.C., the two brothers formed “The Gracchi”. The two, born plebeians, belonged to one of the most influential families in Rome, the Sempronia. Their father was the tribune of the plebs, the praetor, consul and censor. Fatherless from a young age, they were taught democratic views by tutors. As they grew older and gained influence, their goal became to restructure Rome in a way that benefited the underprivileged and unfortunate. At the time, their help was especially welcome as members of the Populare, a political group whose purpose was to serve the people, rather than the aristocracy (like the Optimates). The ideals of the Gracchi leaned towards what people today would call populism or socialism; in fact, they are almost reverently called “the founding fathers” (Fife 1) of the aforementioned political parties. The brothers were perhaps so interested in restoring the rights of the people because of the dichotomy of their plebeian births within a noble line.
As stated earlier, De la Renta began working for Balenciaga, the Arden in the burgeoning ready-to-wear business, until he, just a few years later managed to launch his own label. Once de la Renta successfully launched his label, his success in the fashion industry was meteoric, and it all started with the silk boatneck dress favored by Jacqueline Kennedy. Although most people might remember Jacqueline Kennedy as a fashion trailblazer, de la Renta has a massive role in the creation of their image- and the of the American women of the 60 s. His fitted bodices, which would splay out into full skirts, started a decade of iconoclastic rebellion in fashion while at the same time it preserved the American tradition with folds of taffeta. “I always say in my role as a designer is to bear, to do the very best I can for that woman, to make her feel her very best”.

At age 25 he opened his first collection and it was a big success, inspired by his mentor Balenciaga. The collection was based on evening wear as well as economical white cotton shirts that were both inexpensive and fresh-looking. After that collection, his name was recognizable and his biggest success was the “Bettina” blouse; named after the famous Paris’ top model. This blouse was his signature piece in his cotton collection. Givenchy’s philosophy was: “Keep it simple. Eliminate everything that interferes with the line.” ...

Gursky traveled all across the world taking iconic photos in cities such as Tokyo, Cairo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and many more. He did not do studio work or self-portraits; he strayed from portraits all together for the most part. He relied heavily on a tripod for his great detail. To achieve some of the unique perspectives, Gursky would sometimes use helicopters or cranes to allow him to shoot way above a scene.
