Viral infections are potential causes both congenital and acquired hearing loss (1,2,3,4), and vaccination has been associated with decreased prevalence of hearing impairment (5). However, despite promising prospect of vaccines in prevention of hearing loss, literatures exist which described cases of hearing impairment attributable to vaccination (6,7,8,9,10,11). These reports can be controversial, given the important role of vaccination in primary prevention of communicable diseases. Therefore, objective evaluation of existing reports is of paramount importance to validate or refute the link between vaccination and hearing loss.
Most publications regarding vaccination associated hearing loss have been individual case reports; however,
The article’s information is presented with the goal of informing a reader on vaccines. The evidence is statistical and unbiased, showing data on both side effects and disease prevention, providing rates of death and serious illness from both sides. This evidence is sourced from a variety of medical organizations and seems reliable, logical, and easily understood, no language that would inspire an emotional response is used. The validity of studies is not mentioned in the article, but it does encourage readers to investigate further to help make a decision. The article allows a reader to analyze the presented evidence and come to their own
“Vaccinations are causing a major upsurge in childhood diseases, adult maladies, and even deadly ailments such as Gulf War Syndrome and Lou Gehrig’s disease” (Blaylock). Every now and then an individual’s doctor calls telling them about the latest vaccine they should receive. The person immediately schedules a time to come in and get it done. But do they even give a second thought about it? Have they ever thought that maybe they do not need another vaccination? Many people have not taken the time to seriously think about the process of immunization. The truth is, there are many dangers that the average person should be unaware of. Rarely do vaccines actually accomplish what the public has been told. In fact, a lot of vaccines contain harmful substances that have been linked to disorders such as autism. The lack of education and dishonesty from doctors are putting people in danger of health problems without even realizing. Many parents feel obligated for their children to get vaccinated because of school, not knowing they have the alternative option of refusing immunization.
My goal is to shed light on the epidemic of childhood vaccinations. While there may be several ways to approach the opposition of childhood vaccinations (religious beliefs, risks of neurological problems and death), I am going to touch base on more of the uncommonly known factors behind childhood vaccinations including: the protection of vaccine manufacturers, the inaccurate reporting of adv...
Through the rise of technological advances in medicine, the vaccine has changed the world for the greater good of the human race. Making a great triumph and virtually eliminating an array of life-threatening diseases, from smallpox to diphtheria, thus adding approximately thirty years to many humans’ life spans. Although, a new complication has arisen, possibly linking neurological digression with this rise of new vaccines. Such a digression has forced parents to exempt their children from receiving vaccinations and brought forth mental anguish affecting the minds of many.
North American children are now the most vaccinated on earth. Children receive about thirty-three doses of ten vaccinations by the age of five years. Not only do children need a separate vaccine for most diseases (hepatitis B, polio, Hib, and chicken pox are single vaccines; DTaP and MMR are multiple) but they generally need more than one dose of each vaccine. Because of the many vaccines needed, vaccination is an extremely controversial topic in the United States Today. Whatever side of the aisle you may fall with regard to your opinion about vaccination, one thing is for certain: the choice to vaccinate or not is a decision that has the potential to greatly impact the health of you and most importantly, your children for the rest of their lives.
Long term seizures, permanent brain damage, and deafness are just a few of the many effects that are caused by vaccines such as MMR vaccine, Influenza vaccine, and HPV or Gardasil vaccine ("Vaccines: Types."). Most doctors tend to put this information in the fine print just as many other organizations do and only inform the people of the positive sides to the vaccines. Over all, the fact is that the cons greatly outnumber the pros yet doctors sugarcoat the major things to make them seem minor. Since vaccines can cause changes in a youth growth, mental and health development

Despite the millions of lives saved every year, vaccines are not perfect. “However, one simple fact cannot reasonably be disputed – the benefits of immunizations far outweigh any possible risks” (Koch). Possible risk factors can include headaches, nausea, fever, or allergic reactions. The risks of natural infection outweigh the risks of immunization for every recommended vaccine. Immunization is considered one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century, and experts agree that immunization is key to staying healthy (ProCon.org). The greatest benefit of vaccination is that it prevents
In my life, I've had a major setback that has changed how I live life day to day. When I was five, I was diagnosed with permanent hearing loss. I have hearing loss in both ears, mostly in higher frequencies, but I still have some hearing loss in the lower ones too. Since I was 5, it has only gotten worse, just in the past year there has been drastic changes in the frequencies that I can't hear. Hearing loss affects me day to day, for example if anyone whispers something to me, nine of ten times I can't hear what they are saying. My academics also get affected because sometimes I can't hear what we have for homework over all of the background noise of people packing up, so sometimes I just don't do homework because I never heard it in the first place. Not doing homework because I can't hear it affects my grades as I will get zeros for not doing it.
However when the ability to hear is compromised, developmental norms are then in jeopardy. Cherry refers to the leading cause of hearing impairment/loss in the child as Otis Media/glue ear due to the immature immune system. Furthermore MacLeod-Brudenell (2008) highlights premature birth and physical differences in the child also impacting on he...
Hearing-impairment later in life may possibly be the consequence of many different reasons; diseases such as Meningitis, Mumps, of even AIDS might cause deafness. There are many ways of categorize hearing loss. One category is conductive hearing loss might be the outcome of when sound waves have difficulty getting transmitted from the air outside the ear to the tiny hair cells in the cochlea, which is the inside of the ear, where the sound waves are transmitted as nerve impulses. This type of hearing loss is frequently found in a swimmer's ear. After the sound waves passes through the ear canal it may cause the eardrum [Tympanic Membrane] to throb.
Researchers pointed out that diseases like rubella, diphtheria, and whooping cough have killed over thousands of infants every year in the U.S.A and now avoided by vaccinations. They say vaccination do have risks but
Despite the World Health Organization’s (WHO) report that “1.1 billion teens and young adults worldwide are at risk of hearing loss,” (Bubar)
However, the many vaccines that are available are tested and evaluated constantly with high standards for safety. In fact, doctors Matthew F. Daley and Jason M. Glanz conducted studies to evaluate the risks of parents refusing or delaying vaccinations for their children. They found that children are about “23 times more likely to develop whooping cough, nine times more likely to be infected with chicken pox, and 6.5 times more likely to be hospitalized with pneumonia or pneumococcal disease than vaccinated children” (Daley, 33). If these results do not convince parents to vaccinate their children, it is difficult to say what
Medically speaking, most doctors strongly suggest that all children should take vaccines, saying it can prevent cold, influenza, and other contagious diseases. However, some people question about the effectiveness and the side effects of vaccine especially on children. Therefore, they are reconsidering the doctors’ statements. I believe vaccine should not be mandatory for everyone, mainly because it is not fully effective. In addition, it is costly to get vaccine and causes side effects.
