In this analysis I will begin by giving a description of the resource centers that help me prepare for this experimental journey. I will detail my occurrence of having a hearing impairment for approximately six hours; I will entail every activity with its sentiments outlining my drawback having the disability. I will continue by describing a little bit about hearing impairment. I will have various sources throughout the illustrative paper. I will conclude this paper with a reflection of this experience.
When I first learned about this experimentation, I looked into intervention programs for people with hearing disabilities in Montréal. The first one I researched was CHIP [Communicaid for Hearing Impaired Persons]. It is a non-profit organization that has a mission towards helping people with hearing impairment. They promote programs similar to HEAR [Hearing Education for Aural Rehabilitation] to help teach people with hearing disability to be successful within their community and in their daily lives. They also have support groups for the people with the impairments as well as their families. CHIP's Technical Aids and Resource Centre, also offers explanations on assistive listening devices, American Sign Language, guides people with hearing impairments on receiving government services and impairment grants. An additional resource center I discovered was Raymond-Dewar Institute. It’s very similar to CHIP, but leans more towards the French community. Raymond-Dewar Institute helps people who have a hearing impairment and minimum twenty-one years of age. Most of their clients have been diagnosed with an either a lasting conductive hearing loss or sensor-neural. This milieu offers a late-deafened support group, cochlear implant workshops; it also submits a comprehensive range of French programs which include courses such as LSQ, [Quebec sign language]. In essence CHIP, first and foremost serves the Anglophones of Montréal and Raymond-Dewar Institute serves the Francophone of Montréal.
Hearing-impairment later in life may possibly be the consequence of many different reasons; diseases such as Meningitis, Mumps, of even AIDS might cause deafness. There are many ways of categorize hearing loss. One category is conductive hearing loss might be the outcome of when sound waves have difficulty getting transmitted from the air outside the ear to the tiny hair cells in the cochlea, which is the inside of the ear, where the sound waves are transmitted as nerve impulses. This type of hearing loss is frequently found in a swimmer's ear. After the sound waves passes through the ear canal it may cause the eardrum [Tympanic Membrane] to throb.
In the following chapters, there is an extensive amount of knowledge to learn about how Deaf culture is involved in our modern world. The pages assigned give us an outlook of how Deaf people are treated in our daily life, and how we should learn from it. Its gives a clear line between what are myths and what are facts, to those who are curious about the Deaf community or have specific questions. This book has definitely taught me new things that I could put to good use in the near future. In specific chapters, my mind really opened up to new ideas and made me think hard about questions, like “why don’t some Deaf people trust hearing people,” or “do we need another ‘Deaf president now’ revolution?” I realized many new things in the course of reading this book, and have recommended this to my family.
What I found most interesting about Jarashow’s presentation were the two opposing views: Deaf culture versus medical professionals. Within the Deaf culture, they want to preserve their language and identity. The Deaf community wants to flourish and grow and do not view being deaf as a disability or being wrong. Jarashow stated that the medical field labels Deaf people as having a handicap or being disabled because they cannot hear. Those who are Deaf feel as though medical professionals are trying to eliminate them and relate it to eugenics. It is perceived that those in that field are trying to fix those who are Deaf and eliminate them by making them conform to a hearing world. There are many everyday devises that we hearing people take for granted, among these are telephones, smoke alarms, doorbells, and alarm clocks. When we look at how members of the deaf community use these everyday items we must consider that members within the community have very different communication needs, abilities, and preferences. Hard-of-hearing people for example can use a standard telephone with the addition of a headset or amplifier, while some hard-of-hearing people may prefer a TTY deaf persons rely on it, or a relay service to communicate as we (hearing people) would on a telephone.
The pancreas is an elongated and flattened gland located within the abdomen. Not only is it a vital part of the digestive system, but it is also a key controller of blood sugar levels. (The Pancreas). The pancreas has been divided into four regions which are the head, neck, body, and tail. Being the widest part of the pancreas, the head is twenty-three millimeters. The part of the head that hooks towards the back of the abdomen is the uncinate (Chronic Pancreatitis Imaging). Between the head and body of the pancreas is the neck, which is about nineteen millimeters. The body of the pancreas is twenty millimeters, between the neck and the tail. The pancreas can be divided into two sections when studying the histology. The pancreas has exocrine and endocrine functions, each with unique cell types. The exocrine pancreas serves to secrete digestive enzymes into the duodenum. Some of the specific enzymes and secreted substances are Proteases, lipase, amylase, bicarbonate, and water (Bowen, “Exocrine Secretions”). These enzymes are used to break down protein, fat, and carbohydrates respectively. The bicarbonate simply act as an acid buffer to prevent damage of the small intestine as the stomach acid must be neutralized. Main function of endocrine of pancreas is to produce the chemicals or hormones that regulate blood sugar. Exocrine of pancreas function is to produce enzymes that help to digest food that human eat. Individuals who are deaf or are hearing impaired are faced with many problems in today’s world. There are so many tasks and activities that are done today that deaf or hearing impaired people may have difficulty doing because of there handicap. There handicap used to stop them or inhibit them from doing something that they are interested in or there friends and neighbors would do. However in today there are new and different technologies, that help the deaf and hearing impaired in the activities in which they want to participate in which is hard for them to take part in because of there handicap. Technology is used to help with everyday tasks in the lives of deaf and hearing impaired individuals. With out this new technology which is being invented everyday, deaf and hearing impaired people may be considered to have a handicap which prevents them from certain activities, but this is not the case anymore, now these people just have different obstacles which through the use of technology they are learning to over come. They can do anything that regular normal range of hearing individuals can do, due to the new technology being invented everyday.

In conclusion, the benefits of cosmetic surgery differ between people and situations; any negative thoughts of others may have an effect on a person’s decision to have a procedure done, but it is for the patient to decide if changing their body is the right decision for them. Regardless of the influences on the younger generation, unrealistic ideologies of patients, and moral issues others may have, plastic surgery will continue to be a huge part of society. Several assistive listening devices can improve the communication ability of deaf children. According to IDEA, every child with a disability is entitled to have access to assistive technology (California Department of Education, 2004). The California Department of Education (2004) outlines IDEA’s definition of an assistive technology device. It explains that this device consists of “any item, piece of equipment or product system…that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability” (California Department of Education, 2004, p. 1).
