...uld, in the meantime, require more expenses hence, other portions of their budget must be sacrificed. As for now, the program is still far from triumph considering the fact that not much people have started their own urban gardens.
With the performance of the barangay in the previous years, the program might still stand in the next year or so. But if they would not find better solutions to approach the issues and put their thoughts into action in the near future, the system surely will not flourish and consequently, might not even reach the next decade.

In the largely manufactured city of South Central LA, as illustrated by Ron Finley in the video ‘Guerilla Gardener’, people are suffering. Obesity rates are skyrocketing, people are dying from diseases that could be easily treated, all because of produce that is not only expensive, but also unfresh and overwhelmed with pesticides and insecticides. Ron Finley sees this happening in his community and is determined to do something. He explains in his video how gardening is not only a solution to the ongoing food crisis, but is also therapeutic, revolutionary, and life-changing.
The documentary film “The Garden,” by Scott Hamilton Kennedy captivates and captures the South Central Los Angeles farmers struggles and conflicts they faced trying to save the South Central Farm. The 14 acre garden grows fresh vegetables and fruits, such as: corn, beans, papayas, and etc. It was one of the largest community garden and became known as the urban garden. Doris Bloch, the founder of the community garden, said in the documentary that the land could be use to build a garden for the community residents to grow their own food. Bloch said “ very low income family that deserves to grow their own food… land, people, food, it's a pretty simple idea. happy days.” The farmers took an advantage to use that land to grow their own vegetables
Catalina is a unique place since it has developed infrastructure and have resources to exploit that enable people to live in it. This unique characteristic attracts many people every year to enjoy different ranges of activities. Tourism is the only industry that Catalina has to the economy to fluctuate (“Visit Catalina Island.” 2014). Since the only income for Catalina Island has historically been tourism, the market has been exploited to be able to sustain the towns and enable further development. Both of the towns depend on tourism to survive, however this does not mean that they are similar. According to 2010 Census of Bureau the approximate population of Catalina was 4,096. Avalon had a population of 3,569 and the rest of the population is, Two Harbors and the Catalina Island Conservancy (337.37 km2), 527 (U.S. Census, 2011; “Visit Catalina Island,” 2014). As it can be observe, the amount of resident from each town is significantly different, and the major concentration is in Avalon. This points out that Avalon is a larger city not only demographically but also in population that may drive more people to visit.

The national language of the Philippines is Filipino, a derivative of Tagalog, and English is the language of instruction spoken in schools. However, there are "over 43 languages and 87 dialects are found in the 7,100 islands in the Philippines, with nine spoken by 89% of the 58,000,000 million Filipinos. Most belong to the Malay-Polynesian language family, so there are certain similarities in their sound and grammar." (Claudio-Perez, 1998, n.p.).

In the Philippines, the ages to be considered a senior citizen are those who are aged 60 years old and over. The senior citizens made up 6.8 percent of the 92.1 million household populations in 2010, higher than the 6.0 percent recorded in 2000 and the number reached over six million in 2011 and it is seen to double in 16 years. The number of people 60 years old and above, or those considered as senior citizens, has increased, as the country's household population increases. With the growing number of senior citizens, there is a generalized notion associated with senior citizens such as degeneration and decline of health and well being but on the contrary, most of them are still active and productive, performing significant roles at home and
The Filipinos lived in settlements called barangays before the colonization of the Philippines by the Spaniards. As the unit of government, a barangay consisted from 30 to 100 families. It was headed by a datu and was independent from the other groups. Usually, several barangays settled near each other to help one another in case of war or any emergency. The position of datu was passed on by the holder of the position to the eldest son or, if none, the eldest daughter. However, later, any member of the barangay could be chieftain, based on his talent and ability. He had the usual responsibilities of leading and protecting the members of his barangay. In turn, they had to pay tribute to the datu, help him till the land, and help him fight for the barangay in case of war. There were four classes of society.
